I'm still dumbfounded that TC thought he would kayak to Mexico. Mmmmm K.

As has been discussed before, that would not be the first time it had been done. People have swam from San Diego to Mexico. It would be relatively easy to do it in a kayak. Even the cop who talked to them was concerned about them, but obviously not alarmed. He had probably seen a lot of people try to kayak in the bay. Their problems would have started once he got to Mexico. Getting to Mexico would have been the easy part.

Kayaking from SAN DIEGO TO MEXICO? This guy is an idiot. He's lucky they're both not dead. Ocean kayaking is really difficult, physically and mentally, and takes pretty great map skills too.

People kayak in the ocean all the time. I don't think it would take great mapping skills either. They would have just followed the coast until they got to Mexico. Of course it would have been easier for them to just ride the San Diego trolley to the border, then walked through the turnstile and across the border.

Oh I agree and have seen the video. Just seems risky and unplanned. And clearly not thought out. Besides he didn't even end up doing it. Just seems really out there to me. Jmo

If that was the case, she could have decided that morning not to go. She could have decided at any point along the way, such as at Walmart to just walk away from him and call police. She had all the opportunities in the world not to continue through with the plan. The reports are that she is disappointed that it ended, and now she is blaming her dad for that.

He could have called the cops and had them come to them without her even knowing.

Gonna have to do better than that...

"Yeah, baby, so I wanted to come home but I couldn't leave this poor child alone to be hurt, so I took another cialis and you know what happens when I take one of those, so I had to take care of it." Okay, that nonsense has obviously worked for him in the past, but it's not going to fly with a judge. No wonder the judge not only felt he was a flight risk but a danger to the community.

Wow laying it at ETs feet to continue

Oh just wait. I'm laying odds as to how long before he realizes that line isn't working and he tries the old "devil made me do it" thing.

When you deduct $1,500 for the kayak, and about $300 for an iPad... It's no wonder they were eating flowers... Or was it just her eating flowers?
I think that was another lie he told her to tell. He made a tweet about edible flowers several years ago. I think he's had the "fantasy" for a LONG time. Moo

You know that judge was giving him the side eye thru the entire thing. Especially if she's a mom.

Wow, he took an $1100 hit on that kayak! So he only had $3400 minus the price of the iPad (about $160 @ Walmart) - that leaves $3240 for 38 days, or $82.26 per day.

ETA: NOW I understand why they were broke!

I think he over paid for the kayak. It was probably only worth $400. Kayaks are pretty cheap.

I wonder if he purchased life jackets as well. How reckless and irresponsible is it to take a 15-year-old who has never seen the ocean out ok a $1500 kayak in "treacherous waters"??? I am SO steamed about this!!! :rage:

I am mildly curious about:

1) What he did with the kayak after the failed attempt to cross into Mexican waters
2) What route they took from Colorado to San Diego
3) Why they left the desert commune for Berkeley (maybe the Daily Fail should send some reporters over there)
4) What they did/where they stayed in Berkeley and
5) Exact dates and times they were in each place.
It was probably lost @ sea. Imo

Quinn, at moments breaking down, testified that she does not condone the actions her brother is accused of, but that she loves him and supports him.

“He’s the best you would ever find in a person,” she said while on the witness stand. “He’s been my rock, my heart, my entire life. I absolutely love him. He’s my brother.”

From your link

According to Noble’s testimony, Cummins admitted to having sex with Thomas on “most nights” and that they did engage in “sexual intercourse and oral sex.”

If I did what he did, there is NO WAY I would allow my kids, siblings or parent to be in the courtroom.

This is the key part of your comment to me when you say "all the time".

Kayaking in the ocean is a totally different beast than kayaking in a lake or river. Kayaking is not easy with two people even in a smooth lake if you don't have experience. Swells that look small from land are big once in the ocean.

At least this is my experience:).

"Cummins decided to use the name Castro because it was a Hispanic name and he thought they would be better off portraying themselves as having that heritage if they were going south of the border.

Cummins, a respiratory therapist by training, was a mentor to students at the Culleoka Unit School and kids would often go to him with their problems, the FBI agent said... He would tell students that he had been in the FBI, the CIA and the military and "had the ability to get lost," Noble said. "

I was typing so fast, and I am not a good type of sorry.

Apparently they were small craft warnings due to the weather that day she said.

Also I think I made a typo typing so fast As to telling his wife re turning himself in.. that ET did * not* want to do that, and he was concerned that if he did leave her that they might think that he killed her.

My original typing said that she *did* want to turn herself in, I meant *didn't*.. iirc the reporters statement.

I'd love to see how easy it is for their route, but can't find a video. Can you link?

His lawyer has already hinted that the confession was coerced. He will argue that it should not be admissible.

The OKC bombing case was a change of venue, due to publicity in OKC. It had nothing to do with it being a Federal case. That was in the 1990s. I think judges are much less likely to move trials these days. I think the trial will be held right there in Nashville. Which is 50 miles away from Columbia anyway. That should be enough distance. Not that that will make much difference, since the case has gotten national publicity.

lol. ONLY cases that are Federal can move to another state.

Night. Sleep well.

EXCLUSIVE: Student, 15, who was abducted by her teacher, 50, is refusing to return home and claims she is 'IN LOVE' with grandfather who took her on 'fun road trip' to California

Amber alert teen Elizabeth Thomas is in rehab and refusing to return home to her family - claiming she's 'in love' with her schoolteacher abductor who kidnapped her for 39 days.
DailyMail.com can reveal that the brainwashed 15-year-old insists she is a 'fully grown woman' who should be entitled to date 50-year-old Tad Cummins.
And despite the married grandfather facing a federal child trafficking charge for grooming and kidnapping her, Elizabeth has told friends she had the 'time of her life' during their five weeks on the run.

DailyMail.com can reveal Elizabeth's recovery is further complicated by her turbulent family life, with her parents divorcing and her mother facing trial for abusing Elizabeth and several of her nine siblings.
Kimberly Thomas, 48, is prevented from speaking to Elizabeth over allegations that she beat her, locked her in a basement and threw her down stairs - a pattern of mistreatment that her father Anthony Thomas says left her vulnerable to grooming.
However Elizabeth has also told friends she doesn't want to move back in with her 49-year-old pest controller father, whom she blames for splitting up her and Cummins.
