Three weeks after her death, Miss Adams’ friend, Kimberley Edwards, visited Monaghan to discuss funeral arrangements, the court heard.

He wanted to put their favourite photo of them together in her coffin and, as he took it out of a frame, two folded letters fell out of the back.

One was purportedly a letter from Miss Adams to her child from “Mummy”. The second was typewritten, dated two days before her death, an apparent suicide note.

Duncan Smith QC, prosecuting, suggested Miss Adams “lived for” her young child but it was “odd” that she made no mention of her in the alleged suicide note.

There was however mention of Logan and Ruby, Monaghan’s children.

He said Miss Adams’ signature on the letter was a “cut and paste” and Monaghan then “staged” it being found, with his fingerprints discovered on the letter but not those of Miss Adams.

From yesterday -

Ben Myers QC, defending, told the jury: “These are awful allegations and you would not be human if you were not upset and maybe angry at the thought of what is alleged in this case.

A public swimming baths, on a rainy summer afternoon, was not a good choice for a private place to be with his child, Mr Myers said. [...]

Mr Myers said it is one thing to say a baby could not do something if being suffocated, but a toddler would struggle and resist.

“Anyone who has had to get a toddler into a car seat knows what that means,” he added. [...]

Mr Myers suggested that while the defendant had admitted lying, behaved insensitively and criminally by buying prescription drugs illegally, it was important to be fair, even to people who are “not universally appealing”.

Jury deliberations begin in trial of triple murder accused Jordan Monaghan

Four days now. I wonder if they've been given a majority direction yet. Mind you, perhaps they're hung up on just one of the charges.. If it's undecided I hope there is a retrial.

Hoping we hear from them today.

Are there alternative charges to deliberate in this case or is it just the three charges of murder?
I'll re-quote the post earlier in the thread (#3) that sets out all the charges:

Man charged with murder of children
Tuesday, January 19, 2021

29-year-old Jordan Monaghan has also been charged with the murder of his girlfriend.

A MAN has been charged with the murder of two of his children and the attempted murder of a third child.

29-year-old Jordan Monaghan has also been charged with the murder of his girlfriend.

Monaghan, of Belgrave Close, Blackburn, is charged with murdering his three-week-old daughter Ruby Monaghan in January 2013 and his 21-month-old son Logan Monaghan in August 2013.

He is also accused of killing his partner Evie Adams, 23, in October 2019. She was not the mother of the children.

In addition, Monaghan has been charged with two counts of attempted murder of a third child in September and October 2016, and two counts of cruelty towards the same child in September and October 2016.

The surviving child cannot be identified for legal reasons.

All of the alleged offences were committed at addresses in Blackburn.

The charges follow a complex and lengthy enquiry by Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) and come after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The full list of charges (and dates) authorised by the CPS are:

Lancashire Constabulary - Man charged with murder of children

Lancashire Telegraph usually excludes mention altogether of the charges of attempted murder and cruelty against a third child who can't be named in its reporting, but I have found this in one of their early trial reports -

Monaghan, of Belgrave Close, Blackburn, who is also charged with the attempted murder of another child, denies all charges.

Triple murder accused 'killed two of his children before giving partner fatal overdose'

Daily Mail also mentions the cruelty charges against the unnamed child -

Monaghan is alleged to have attempted to kill a third child, who cannot be identified for legal reasons,...

Monaghan denies three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of cruelty to a child, all between January 1 2013 and October 24 2019.
