Will Smith slaps Chris Rock on stage live at the OSCARS

However wrong that slap was, I do hope he's strong enough to weather the storm.

This could be the straw that breaks the camels back with regard to his mental health.

Aka - Caroline Flack.

I don’t know. I mean WS was immediately surrounded and coddled by a bunch of powerful Hollywood personalities as if HE was the victim.

And does he have a history of mental illness and suicide attempts like that woman did?

So far, if my memory is correct..Hollywood has recently had a few others in trouble with the law due to their own carelessness, bad choices and wrong doings. Their records of self aggrandizing, blaming others and denial of wrong doing hasn't improved their status at all, IMO.

Here's to WS, may he be the one to do the right thing, come clean and admit he was WRONG. That is a start in the right direction anyway. IMO

Hollywood......just an FYI.....the world is watching

IMO, Chris Rock should be acknowledged for deescalating the situation after being slapped and I don't think he knew the hit was coming. A knee jerk reaction could have resulted in an actual fight. Chris remained calm, professional at his work event and did not engage in any further jokes or spout off at the mouth. Well done. It's been years since I've watched any award show but the host is known to roast people, it's what happens. I don't believe Chris Rock took a personal jab at Jada either.

Will Smith, IMO, appeared unhinged, weak, almost like people do when involved in road rage incidents. The problem that night was not Chris Rock it's whatever BS Will Smith is dealing with. IMO
I would say Chris responded to WS as you would to a patient in a psychiatric ward. He was just trying to calm the guy down....it was spooky, and scary. Yes, I give CR credit for deescalating what was truly a scary situation. Why WS wasn't escorted out is really concerning. Security did not do the right thing. He was unhinged.

Perhaps we will learn of some medical issue WS is suffering from, b/c frankly, stable people just don't act like that.
Very, very sad. Very.

Amateur opinion and speculation

Or what about Don Rickles? Anyone remember him? He was on the Johnny Carson show frequently. He was absolutely brutal when making jokes about people, even people in the audience. I remember thinking his jokes were very tasteless, if not cruel.
Oh yes, Don Rickles was ruthless. Marty Allen was another. 'member him?

MOO.

Publicity stunt?

The awards ceremonies have not been much watched lately.

Women slap

Men punch

If I were in a public setting and my husband approached another man and slapped him and not punched him.

I would not be proud.

That was odd come to think of it. I wonder if WS had an internal debate ‘punch or slap’?

Chris is getting a lot of support, he begins a tour tomorrow. WS, he will be the subject of an intense meeting.

In the online world “We don’t talk about Bruno” has been replaced with “We don’t talk about Jada”

You're right, I shouldn't have made an assumption on his mental state.

Sometimes I can just see it in people. The old adage 'takes one to know one" comes into play I think.

Oh and I'm highly sensitive to people's emotions, which can be a blessing but most of the time it's a curse.

All that said I shouldn't have assumed, because I could be way off the mark.

And, many of the people who were ruthless comedians were not really that funny when their comedy just "ragged" on people. Mr. Smith was totally wrong for his behavior, I have no doubt. But, it is important to note that Mr. Rock has worked with both of them. He said some funky stuff about their boycott of the Oscars. And, truthfully, his stuff is not so funny-- it was sexist (Javier Bardem comment about his wife being angry if he gets an award) and demeaning (IMHO). When people like Ricky Gervais took on Hollywood elitism it was equally opportunity and approved by the producers. Rock's statement about Jada was not (https://www.rollingstone.co.uk/film...jada-pinkett-smith-joke-was-off-script-13827/) so then the question is why did he ad lib. I don't think his joke a few years ago was well received nor was his response to the tweet.

We can easily see that Smith's behavior is out of line. That said, it is important to note that Rock may not have been appropriate with his commentary which was the latest in a history of dissing the couple.

I don’t know. I’ve seen far too many men in the US act like that. Macho. Drunk. Arrogant.

The difference is this guy is Hollywood royalty. So of course he’s not only allowed to get away with this disgusting behavior, he’s protected, defended and even lauded. “That’s how we do it.” Really, Jaden?

The fact that security didn’t take action says a lot about the ‘elite and privilege of Hollywood’. To then be followed up with a standing ovation is the disgusting reality of “how they do it”

Im indifferent about each of them, don’t follow either but it doesn’t matter what Chris or any other comedian says, violence isn’t acceptable. Being provoked doesn’t excuse violence.

Very true that violence is unacceptable regardless of provocation. Yet, it is important to look at the further context to see where Mr. Rock might bear responsibility for saying inappropriate things about a person in attendance at the event. It is telling to me that the comments were not part of the script and were an ad lib that he added....given his history of comments to this particular couple, what is he responsible for? And, his jokes were not funny, sexist, and uncomfortable for me as a viewer ....as always, JMHO.
