Dr. Bock saw the photographs and also the bones.

Dr. Bock says she's no expert on bones and not qualified to comment on bones/root growth.

Roots grow really fast in Florida! And I thought plants grow fast in Oregon! I'm surprised the whole state isn't covered in vegetation!

  • #723
She's totally off. Any plain Gardner like myself knows that there's no way those roots only grew 2 weeks in December.

Gawd I am glad the weeds in flower beds don't grow that fast. Help us lawd.

Don't hate on me, but I think this is a valid witness for the defense. She is not spinning her findings (a la Spitz), she is just answering the questions. "minimum time" was the question, and she answered it.
They are entitled to put on witnesses, regardless of how weak their findings are.

Making yourself available as an expert witness to defend a child killer is a pathetic way to make a living. IMO she is despicable.

Dr. Bock is quickly loosing credibility with her claim that roots could have grown through the hair and bones in as little as two weeks

  • #728
I don't think I believe that there could have been that much root growth in two weeks in December, but I still think this witness is cute.

  • #729
All of the plant growth through the fabric and through the hair etc. all occurred within two weeks in her opinion. :waitasec:

  • #730
Aha - JA asking if they could have grown there in two weeks as opposed to accumulated there in two weeks.

Roots growing into the bones - could that have occured in two weeks in Dec.?

I suspect so - but I don't study bones.

WTH kinda of answer is that?

Never had experience of dealing with root growth in a decomposing skeletons.
Only skeletons that have been in place for years.

Well, she went to Berkley in the 60s so the study of grasses seems right

Ah, the Dobbie (pause) Brothers. :rocker: Wait that wasn't their band name.

"Sometimes yes or no is not so easy."

ETA: And she answers the next question with "Oh, yes."

  • #736
The defense witnesses ALWAYS seem like they are being evasive on cross...I am sure jury notices this. It's so ridiculous.

  • #737
Botanist Dr. Bock's theory is borked. JA has got this. No worries.

Dr. Bock turns her eyes UP when answering...never looks towards the jury..don't think they can take this as believable testimony and this is the battle of the experts case.....hmmmm....who to believe....

Leaf litter tells her body was there just 2 weeks prior to discovery...could hav accumulated there in two weeks...difference in accumulate and grown..my question can they grow there two weeks..yes...roots through canvas laundry bag...you say they can grow in two weeks? Yes...and the bone? I suspect so but I'm no expert on bones..not qualified to testify to osteology....Never had that experice dealing with a skeleton with roots growing..hestitated a bit, said yes and made a face looking upwards....
