It doesn't matter if they have a tablet, kiosk or in line at the pay phone. It's the same rules - they are all subject to recording and monitoring. An inmate isn't forced to use a tablet or to make any phone calls and it's surely their own choice to confess multiple times putting the consequences of those actions squarely on them.

He had books,tablet,commissary, exercise,shower,companion,medical care…..phone calls,visits…what ‘outside privileges’ are you trying to describe?

Questions without answers at this point: Did he feel forced by wife to speak with LE? Or, as I’ve previously mentioned several times now, maybe RA was somewhat paranoid that his name would eventually be linked to BG having been on trail at the same time as the girls disappeared and possibly recognized similar characteristics. Especially since during a conversation with friend who owned pool hall, friend stated RA looked similar to BG. Poster of BG was seen actually hanging in pool hall.

Just my thoughts and opinions.

Yeah, I see three options:
1. He told his wife that he was there, and she encouraged him to call the tip-line.
2. He wanted to cover himself in case someone had identified him or his name otherwise came up.
3. He wanted to insert himself in the investigation.

It's so unbelievably frustrating that not only was this tip misfiled, but the officer taking it didn't think to follow up in the ensuing weeks, months, and ultimately years.

Had either of those things not happened, Allen is on their radar immediately. There would be the possibility of recovering more video, physical evidence, and digital evidence. We'd be talking about a completely different type of case.

That sounds like a man confessing his crime to his wife, especially since he knows it's going to become public information very soon. RA has mentioned cheating on KA, and I believe the kidnapping/murder with SA intent is what RA was referring to.

It sounded totally different to me - there was no substance to his statements, they were vague and they weren't even certain. Maybe it needs to be seen / heard live to really understand but as it stands, for me, these don't convince me that he is the BG or the killer. moooo

It is *extremely rare* for someone to be playing with or eating their own feces as part of a protest. They might save some and throw it at guards but they're not rolling around in it.

After reading up on this, I agree this is not likely feigning or malingering. I can’t believe this went on for months before it was reported to a medical doctor - at which time he was given anti-psychotics involuntarily.

Based on RA testified to while at Westville and now even at Cass County, sounds like segregation is the best option for this Defendant. He sounds like he could harm himself or other for sure.

I’m not criticizing him having the tablet, I’m criticizing the argument that the way he was held was meant to be punitive, as some have alleged.

I believe the area/cell RA was kept in for 13 months is the most restrictive housing in Westville and likely all of Indiana. Galipeau testified to the conditions in that particular area.

I'm curious about other states. What is the most restrictive in your state?

I know- the rules are the same, it’s known that calls are recorded, and the OP was asking about/speaking to having tablets in cells in isolation/solitary- if you are in isolation or solitary you would not have access to kiosks or phones as in general population- so for these inmates- under close surveillance/supervision- like RA was, having tablets in their cells provides the opportunity to record calls in a way that would not be possible without the tablets in their cells- moo

As is our right like the ones here who think RA is innocent. Neither groups are jurors and we are entitled to our opinions based on the evidence as we interpret it. Thank goodness free thinking is still acceptable.

RL the defense didn’t seem to be interested in judging from the 5 mins of argument they dedicated to it. Quite surprising IMO but there must be some reason why he wasn’t useful.

Maybe because RL went to prison (on other old charges) and didn’t freak out and confess to what he didn’t do - then try to walk it back. RL, in his 70s, remained strong. I often wondered if they didn’t throw RL back in to see if he’d try to confess or snitch and negotiate his way out. He didn’t. Cause he didn’t kill Libby and Abby.

Outside of his confessions which are a point of contention there's literally nothing to prove bridge guy was the killer, in fact, the one witness SC saw a muddy and bloody person wearing different clothes than bridge guy. This all rests on the confessions, my opinion only

Not one of the eyewitnesses gave a description that resembles RA and many of the IDs contradict each other wildly.

I think they have a very codependent dysfunctional relationship. KA calls LE to their home in 2015 for a domestic disturbance and ends up taking him herself to the hospital. This isn't RA's first rodeo. JMO

Thank you, however I was limiting my response to the implication of RA’s mental state during the phone calls with his wife. Unfortunately I am extremely behind today & trick or treaters are now just beginning their assault.

Perhaps, and likely having edited out what preceded the outburst. Slick. Trial by ambush. Last ditch attempt to bolster a very weak case against RA. As stated above, unacceptable. JMHO

Not if they are trying to present themselves as 'crazy'. That would be an ideal way to suggest it. Funny is the timing of all these mental breakdowns, psychotic episodes and confessions.

They only happened after Defendant Allen was served with the State's Discovery, which was dropped off by an assistant and not even given to him in person by his own Defense Team. What the what????

I’m going to split the difference here: I feel like smearing feces and eating them are on two completely different levels.

I’d be willing to bet that eating feces is exceptionally rare among people faking psychosis, if only because I imagine the experience of eating poo is so jarring that one’s reaction to that would be a very good way to give the game away.

In other words it would be ideal if pulling it off with a straight face didn’t have such a high degree of difficulty.

Maybe treatment at a mental health facility could have been better. I think 13 months in solitary is too long, especially for a mentally ill person. And remember, this is all pre-trial detention that should have taken place at the county jail. I haven’t heard anything to suggest he was considered a harm to others.

"Officers with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were sent at around 3:30 a.m. June 18, 2015, to the home of Richard and Kathy Allen, according to records obtained by the station Fox 59.

Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said Allen, a dad of one and a CVS technician, was allegedly drunk, and his wife took him to a hospital for a medical evaluation."

There absolutely would never have been a trial.

There was no DNA evidence, and no trail to follow to wind up at Richard Allen.

They chased their tails for years, investigating and ultimately clearing/getting nowhere on multiple suspects.

It was like looking for a needle in a haystack while blindfolded. Except that needle wasn’t in a haystack, it was within their own files.

Thanks to Allen admitting he was there, they found the evidence they needed to get to this point. We finally know how this came to be, although there will always be unanswered questions and a desire for more details, and more evidence.

Perhaps one day he will reveal those details, hopefully from behind bars.
