Why didn't Abby try to run away when Libby was attacked in that case? I understand she may have frozen in fear, not wanting to leave her friend, etc. But I do imagine it quite hard to control two teenage girls when the gun has been put away, and they know what is coming? I guess it is just how it happens. But can you think of any other possibility?
Very sad, I feel so much for these girls.
We know that there are people who pass out at the sight of blood....

We don't know what RA accomplished, was doing, was going to do had he not been interrupted. But he was. Likely he had them lie down perfectly still and waited for BW to pass, then ordered to Abby to dress but decided nor to wait there another minute, forced them across the creek where clothing was lost.

I believe him. He slashed Libby first and the sight of that made Abby pass out. Utterly involuntary response. Then he slashed her throat with a lethal blow before reaching Libby and giving her the fatal cuts.

Panicked, out of control, no regard for human life, certainly not for theirs. Just himself.

Hoping he gets the full LWOP x 2.

Shaking his head in court? He's still not sorry.

Fine.

He's not sorry, he's pathetic.

#NEW: Both the prosecution and the defense have wrapped up their closing arguments. After lunch, we will hear the prosecution’s rebuttal and the jury will receive their final instructions before deliberation begins.

The jury will be able to get housekeeping stuff done today - like pick a foreperson, decide how they will work together to reach a verdict, etc. Then, tomorrow, dive in deep.

That's my guess.

Rozzi tells the jury the prosecution didn’t include Allen’s timeline regarding how he got to the bridge. Allen nods his head in agreement in the court room.

Rozzi suggests to the jury that they should use two pieces of evidence to exercise common sense; the two interviews from Oct. 13 and 26, 2022.

Rozzi says that Brad Weber’s gun could not be excluded as the one that cycled the cartridge found at the scene.

Rozzi says Weber had sticks in his garage and the state did not mention that. He brings up Weber’s account changed from Feb. 13.

Rozzi talks about phone calls on April 3, 2023 that the state didn’t bring up at all.

Rozzi says the state did not offer up information on the FBI leaving the investigation. He says the sticks laid on the girls’ bodies were not collected.

Weber had sticks in his garage?! Are they trying to say Weber brought some sticks from his garage and used them to cover up the bodies? What in the world is going on right now.

Wow. Close the case!.
Why are they putting the family through this nonsense??

Both the prosecution and the defense in the #Delphi Murders Trial have finished their closing arguments. The court is now taking a lunch break. Once court reconvenes we’ll hear from the prosecution one more time, followed by jury instructions & deliberation.

Prosecution are stating they questioned KA. But I thought she was bought on just to sit beside Allen for support?
I really wouldn't call that questioning? They never asked her separately to account for her and his whereabouts before and after the event as far as I'm aware?
They seperated them at his 2nd interview at the police station.

I believe it was Lauren at HTC who described the sticks as like twigs that had blown onto his garage floor with the weather.

Rozzi says the ‘magic bullet’ is the majority of the state’s case. He says the state just wants the jury to believe Oberg and ignore the state not bringing up photos. “Use your common sense,” he says.

Rozzi mentions Libby’s phone being plugged into an accessory was not brought up by the state. He shows the jury a phone timeline. “You should question their credibility,” Rozzi says, referring to the prosecution. He says the state was desperate to make an arrest.

B&UBM :D :D :D

not laughing at you @Davemac1 but at this quote from Rozzi. BW had sticks in his garage. On a property that was bordered by woods. Wow, stop the presses, we can all go home now, clearly that is nefarious as all get out.

That one cracked me up. It's as likely something as simple as personally sourced wood from down trees etc to burn. Almost everyone burns around these areas.

I've got sticks in my garage.
Could I have done it??

I personally believe that the clothing "discarded" in the creek was actually dropped in the rush to get across, and that Abby was able/allowed to quickly put on some pants before crossing the creek.

We've seen that the jury has critical thinkers on it. Just hope there are not the tin-hats in the group who dig in hard when their thoughts are questioned. I hope they laugh off sticks and headphones.

Rozzi tells the jury that the Brad Weber van detail was only recently added this year. He says it took seven years for the hair and DNA testing to occur. Rozzi says that Allen’s Google searches have no proof that Allen actually made the searches. The searches are only registered to his email, he says.

Rozzi says the Google search information was forensic examiner Chris Cecil offering the jury “fast food.”

Rozzi tells the jury that the man who performed the autopsies on the girls, Dr. Roland Kohr, said in a deposition that there may have been more than one murder weapon, but now says it could be a box cutter. He says Kohr said this after meeting with the prosecution three time[s ]

Apologies if I missed this, but the prosecution stated it found Allen’s car and Carhartt jacket. That jacket was never shown in court, correct?

McLeland says they found the Sig Sauer .40 caliber handgun and cartridges that were the same brand and caliber as the cartridge found at the crime scene. McLeland calls it a “Bridge Guy starter kit.”

(Snipped by me) I’m really amused by McLeland’s use of the term “Bridge Guy Starter Kit” (if in fact those were his exact words, which it seems they were according to multiple news sites) because Áine from MS said that verbatim a week or so ago on the podcast. Wonder if he’s a fan. ;)

I think they were close together when attacked. He may have heard Libby's dad calling for her. He slashed Libby and then hopped on Abby slashing her while straddling her and then went back to Libby by the tree. Just a theory based on the evidence.

Good observations.
What bothers me is, if this is the case. R.A has no prior criminal record, he was in his 40-50's at the time, and no one has come forward with accusations of prior sexual abuse or odd sexual behavior.

In his discussions with Dr Wala and Dr Westcutt we heard quite a bit about his tortured childhood. He was reportedly SA'd by his babysitter at age 11. He then acted out himself sexually. And those fantasies and deviant thoughts continued through the years, according to him.

And he had severe depressive disorder and was medicated and he said he was an alcoholic. His wife described his severe emotional meltdowns, where he'd be so overwhelmed by feelings of failure and fears of abandonment that he'd have breakdowns. It cost him a couple of job promotions where he was demoted because of his emotional troubles.

He was called a fragile egg by Dr Westcutt, and that began way before his incarceration. So I am not surprised he was never arrested but that doesn't mean he didn't have severe emotional issues stemming from sexual abuse in childhood. If that was not treated by professionals it can create trauma and toxic situations to fester.
He chooses two people, not just one and they are both High risk for the offender.
He had been drinking and he had also told his therapist that he had planned to kill himself that day. So maybe he wasn't concerned with risk?
Then he goes back to a normal life and does not draw much attention to himself for several years.
A lot of one time killers do that. We've seen it in cold cases that were cracked by DNA later on. We learn that the perp had just gone about their normal lives and hid in plain sight. It happens.
If he had strong urges and fantasies, what kept him from committing such a crime prior and to repeat it (when he must have thought he had gotten away)?
We don't really know about any prior events but he may have been too scared to repeat it. He may have hoped he got away with it. But he had suicidal ideation during those years. So he was tense and fearful perhaps.

Maybe an ant or a tiny spider crawled in there and then decamped.

:D
Why not?

That's just as reasonable as a woodland creature carrying in the cartridge IMO.
