Yes I agree the child was still brutally murdered and unfortunately the belongings being place with the child I believe is because it's evidence linked to the 2 not necessarily because of more care.

This is reminding me of the Stanford twins. One is the murderer and the other is the enabler who is willing to cover up.

Or was she?

"Ms Pearce-Stevenson's mother had reported her daughter missing to Northern Territory police on September 4, 2009 but she withdrew the report six days later after receiving information that Ms Pearce-Stevenson was "alive and well", police said.
It is understood the mother had received a text message or a phone call telling her that her daughter was fine but did not want any further communication with her."

'NT Police Assistant Commissioner Jamie Chalker provided further information on the report.“It is known that Karlie’s mother raised a missing persons report on 4 September, 2009, in Alice Springs and normal initial investigation inquiries at that time indicated signs of active life,” he said.
“It was understood that Karlie had travelled interstate with her daughter and that family contact had been intermittent.
“The investigation was subsequently filed on 10 September, 2009, after Karlie’s mum withdrew her concern as she advised that she had received contact from Karlie, that she was safe and did not want further contact.”"

So there we have it. Mum was contacted by Karlie in Sept 2009 according to NT Police.
That puts the murders later than previously thought.

they are thinking that it may not have been Karlie that actually contacted her

Yes maybe. But that what makes me think the suspect placed it there as why would someone they keep her all these years. Unless they were related and all family have been cleared.

I don't know if you have already talked about the 60 year old man the locals saw carrying a suitcase a couple of months before the suitcase was found. I didn't think it sounded like the same suitcase. All the description of witnesses is that the stranger's suitcase was "dark" but the photos of the suitcase show it was quite a light grey. I wonder if he was just a stranger with a suitcase in a very small town. The sighting was said to be 6 to 8 weeks before they found the suitcase. I wonder if the suitcase was thrown from a car into the roadside bush and later dragged closer to the road by a person or dog. If the suspect was in gaol in July 2015, that could be an explanation of the appearance of the suitcase then, without involvement of another person.

Just makes more sense to me that whoever did this dumped either one first then kept driving and dumped the next. Hoping it was far enough apart for no one to match them together. :/ horrible as it is to use the term dumped...

The NT Police Commissioner seemed sure in a statement less than 2 hours ago.
Where did you hear that they now think it was an imposter?
Wouldn't a mum know an imposter's voice?

Sure, but also 5 year apart?

These days lots of 20 somethings communicate mainly by SMS or facebook or other social media. If the killer had her phone or she had access to her FB etc the killer could pretend to be Karlie saying she needed time away from family. That makes it seem more likely that the killer is someone the family knew and who didn't want them looking for her.

The trouble with this case is that every new clue throws up a dozen new questions!!!!!

Not necessarily. The police even admitted that they do not know for sure if it was really Karlie who texted or called mom.

I'm still with the mindset that although AJ is a terrible sick individual his crimes are less extreme and double murder seems too far. He is more a dodgy hardened criminal then a psychopath IMO.

I think, he is very very violent and a more than bad character. He is criminal since an age of around 18y and now an elderly man. After x assaults on children/woman/men I think, his behavior hadn't get better but more worse over the years - as a fact re allmost all offenders. Around 2008 (or even before) maybe time had come for more violence and unintentionally/intentionally murder also. Worst of all: pedophile as an addition and therefore reason to be controlled only by the sex drive without pardon. IMO of course only.

I'm waiting with you for the news. :)

Is this a key on Karlie's neck chain?

It kind of makes sense that Khandalyce was kept for so long after her mother was so unceremoniously dumped in Bengalo. Whoever murdered Karlie wanted to make her suffer, hence they took her baby and kept her baby as a trophy, possibly.
If suitcase man did actually place Khandalyce where she was found, he must have wanted to finish up the mess that the person he knew had created and give the child a chance at a peace.

Maybe? Hmmm

Oh PS: Makara and Dutchtreat so impressed with your intuition and insights on this case from day dot.
And LE and supporting departments just blown away with what you have achieved.

I think the suitcase and remains were hidden in a basement crawl space or an attic or an old shed. At some point, some one was selling their property. or cleaning it out, and realized it hAD TO GO. Maybe the perp was in prison and the property owner found the suitcase and knew it was time to get it off their property. JMO

A few thoughts:

I didn't follow the threads discussing Karlie's murder. Can anyone comment on whether she was sexually assaulted? In my view there's a difference between a sexually motivated murder and a murder conducted by someone known to the victims involving assault but no sexual component.

With the suspect currently AWAITING SENTENCING he is obviously recently convicted of an offence. Any thoughts on any known criminals that may fit this bill? Also I believe he is in NSW so has clearly committed crime there. Does this mean he's local to NSW now?

Hi, just hoping someone can clear up for me what we know about the dumping of the suitcase as there have been a lot of articles and I can't remember where I read it, but if I remember correctly the suitcase was not dumped as close to the highway as when it was found and it is believed that someone found the suitcase, emptied it, and moved the suitcase and contents closer to the highway.

Please correct me if I'm mixed up before I put forward any theories of mine.

I have always thought that when someone files a missing persons report the missing person needs to be sighted by the police before they can close the case?
