One thing to keep in mind is that if the verdict is 'not guilty', it doesn't necessarily mean the jury has sided with the defence's assertions.
Agree. The jury has to follow the directions given to them on day one of their empanelment. Beyond reasonable doubt on each of those questions. And motive doesn't enter into it.
If you've every been on a jury, you will understand. It's not always about right from wrong. It's the law and how it is presented and how you are directed by the judge.

Could also apply to Woolworths.

Erin was singularly responsible for mushroom sales to drop after the poisonings. imo

Supermarkets are telling their mushroom suppliers that sales have decreased by up to 10 per cent in the past few weeks.

Ms Beattie said the sales decrease is "not to a point where it's of concern", but mushroom farmers are monitoring the situation.
"We're meeting regularly at the moment and we're really just keeping an eye on it."

The sales decrease is reminiscent of the 2018 strawberry needle contamination saga that saw strawberry prices fall as sales dropped, forcing farmers to dump produce.

Yes. Plus we are only hearing what the media want to tell us. It's only the tip of the iceberg of what the jury are hearing, plus the jury get to see and hear people's tone of voice, and facial expressions etc. I will trust the jury even if their verdict seems contrary to what I think.

I don't believe the mention of buying mushrooms from Asian grocery stores was meant to be racist.
When I used to go to Sydney more often I would buy from Asian grocery stores.
My then husband was Asian.

Many of the stores actually didn't have a name in English on them.

So in my mind when I wanted to buy again in a few months time, I would just remember the "third Asian grocery store" on whatever street.

I can really taste that delicious diced pork we used to get, that was my absolute favourite.
Yes and they did used to have stuff in plastic bags with no labels, and handwritten what the contents were.

But anyway now she has confessed to picking them so the grocery stores are not in the picture anymore.

I don't think people are saying that she overtly tried to be racist, per se, but it's that she has such little consideration for a whole racial group when throwing their businesses under the bus by claiming she purchased poisoned mushrooms from a random asian grocer in Glen Waverly. Again, all for self preservation. IMO

Erin Patterson: Mushroom murder trial to resume after day off for ‘things happening behind the scenes’

Erin Patterson’s triple-murder trial is expected to return to court after jurors were given a day off for “things happening behind the scenes”.

“I’ve just been having a discussion with counsel about the way the case is progressing and the way that we can save some time and we can best achieve that by not sitting on Monday,” he said.

“There are things happening behind the scenes to try and condense the material that will be presented to you and if Monday is devoted to that rather than you sitting here in court listening to some evidence, I expect the case will conclude earlier.”

I don’t think Erin intended to point a finger at fresh white button mushrooms purchased at Woolworth’s. I think she intended to implicate dehydrated mushrooms from an unbranded package with handwritten indecipherable Chinese lettering from an unidentified Asian grocery in an unidentified town.

Yeah, relying on the "all look the same", and "weird foods" racial stereotypes.

In any case, Woolies can take a very small hit on one of its 3,000,000 products. Not so sure little Asian grocers can afford the same.

I’m a little concerned that the judge wants counsel to condense the material presented to the jury in order to speed things along.

I don’t care much for Erin but she’s entitled to the best defense possible even if it means the trial goes all the six expected weeks. And the prosecution should be allowed to lay out their case.

Is the jury unhappy with current proceedings?

It is likely normal procedure - IMO it would have been the defence and prosecution working together on a statement of agreed facts in order to reduce the volume of evidence submitted. It happens all the time.
