I hope she didn't put death caps in the cat's food.

She didn't own a cat. She was made up a reason to ask if the mushrooms in the pic were poisonous.

Police alleged Erin Patterson used a toxic penne pasta, a chicken korma curry and a vegetable wrap to poison her husband Simon, before hosting the lunch where she served a beef Wellington containing death cap mushrooms.

Patterson pleaded not guilty and was set to also plead not guilty to other charges dating back to 2021 and 2022.

Simon said he spoke to a doctor, Christopher Ford, in late 2022 and raised suspicions his wife was trying to poison him.

"He was very thoughtful," Simon testified. "He said, I suggest you don't tell too many people about that."

Around the same period, Simon removed Erin as his medical power of attorney and began tracking his meals in a spreadsheet, the court heard.

Simon said he never thought other people were at risk and believed he was his wife's only alleged target. It was why he didn't warn his parents when they decided to go to Erin's house in Leongatha on July 29, 2023.

Glad we can finally talk about this now.

The tax return incident wasn’t the trigger. She was trying to kill him long before that.

She went to the tip more than once (also on the day of the lunch) and:

During the trial, while the jury was out of the room, prosecutor Jane Warren told the court the post was made in 2020 by one of Erin Patterson's Facebook accounts to a page titled "Poisons Help; Emergency Identification For Mushrooms & Plants".

Ms Warren told the court the text of the post read as follows:

This was related to my evidence I was meant to give. Yeah, she didn’t own a cat.

This latest article in the Daly Mail is mind blowing. I can only think that Simon gave these details to the media. 🤔

This is stuff that was discussed during the pretrial hearings but the journalists present hearing it all had to wait until now to report on it.

She was a modern day witch!!! Victoria’s Lucrezia Borgia!!!

Crown barred from leading alleged records of other poisons

Other computer evidence prosecutors wanted to rely on for the trial, seeking to prove Patterson had an interest in poisons, was also excluded.

Prosecutors had sought to do this by pointing to a series of digital artefacts allegedly located on devices seized from Patterson’s home.

These included a research article allegedly found on an unused phone in one of her children’s bedrooms that detailed the process to produce the natural poison Abrin from the rosary pea seed.

Another cache record captured an alleged online visit to the citizen science website iNaturalist, where a user viewed a sighting for the poisonous plant hemlock in the Loch area on September 5, 2022.

A third item allegedly located on a tablet was a file titled 2007bookmattercriminalpoisoningPDF, which was allegedly linked to the 2007 book Criminal Poisoning: Investigational Guide for Law Enforcement, Toxicologists, Forensic Scientists, and Attorneys.

The file contained the appendix page titled Common Homicidal Poisons and was created on October 12, 2019, although the court was told there was no evidence it was accessed after that date.

A fourth item allegedly located on a device by police was a scientific article about “red kidney bean poisonings” in the UK with an analysis of 50 suspected incidents between 1976 and 1989.”

In today's Daily Mail.

"Justice Beale agreed with Patterson's defence that the attempted murder allegations needed to be separated from the murder allegations in the interest of ensuring her a fair trial.

Prosecutors took the ruling all the way to the Supreme Court of Appeal, which agreed with Justice Beale's decision.

The prosecution had been determined to tell a jury Simon's illnesses had been no coincidence and set the scene for Patterson's ultimate betrayal at the lunch. "

Upon discharge, Simon moved in with his parents and was referred to a specialist.

The court heard that specialist was a Bible study mate of Simon's, whom he confided to about his concerns that Patterson was trying to kill him.

'I told him in late 2022 I feared Erin was trying to poison me,' Simon said.

'He acknowledged it, but offered no opinion.'

...

It was around this time Simon decided to start a spreadsheet that could help him note common elements of his various illnesses.

By February 21, 2023 - just months before the deadly lunch - Simon took steps to ensure his father would make all medical decisions on his behalf if incapable of making them himself.

He told Don he was suspicious of Patterson and feared she had been trying to kill him.

Reduced to tears, Simon said his father told him to keep that opinion between them.

'He felt it could create issues in the way people related with Erin and our family,' he said.

Well there it is. All along I have wondered why SP didn't go to the police with his suspicions, especially after two near death experiences, induced coma and numerous operations.

I sure would have, but I'm not into religion. Try to poison me and you'll be getting a visit from the police.

The post was actually made on 5 May 2020.

Interesting that she claimed the mushrooms were found in grassland near trees. Isn't that where deathcaps are commonly found?

Even after the third attempt, he was trying to reconcile with her...

I can't figure her out. Every time they were trying to reconcile, or were going away together, she poisoned him. I hope she rots in jail, the evil cow.

It would be interesting to know what poisons she used on poor Simon.

The 'bible study mate' specialist whom Simon confided in really let him down, imo. Surely he had a duty of care to do more than just acknowledge Simon's suspicions! A meeting or at least communication with Simon's hospital care teams and police?

Well, she's a pretty cool customer isn't she? A bit too cool... I notice that her blink rate increased dramatically after she was asked about the dehydrator. Her answers were fairly short and she didn't express any concern or sadness for the victims...

IMO, SP was given bad advice all round. It's tragic that no one he consulted was suspiciously cynical (as for instance I am) when it comes to this sort of thing.

Those people outside of her closed family group who really knew EP's personality would have heard alarm bells ringing, IMO.
