Agreed! Who cares if she has to life her life in solitary confinement??? He said she is the worst of the worst and chose not to socialize with the few people she could. She will re-offend given the chance when she's 83. I think the other prisoners ARE in danger from her. She should have gotten LWOP- no chance at parole for her crimes. Aussies, you need to change your laws IMHO.

Essentially she was jailed for 33 years for taking the lives of 3 people and forever harming and maiming one. Around 10 years for each life. Insufficient in the extreme, IMO

Should have been much longer but I can't see her living long enough to be freed. Crazy that you can murder 3 people and have the chance of getting out though.

Ian Wilkinson was speaking on the ABC live feed. Interesting to hear his voice

Grossly inadequate.

It doesn't feel like she got compound sentences.

Multiple murders should be multiple lifes. 33 + 33 + 33.

JMO
A commensurate sentence in the US would have been Life+33 years- meaning that she's never getting out. No chance of parole.

Just repeating, Erin Patterson has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering Don and Gail Patterson and Heather Wilkinson.

She's been given a 25-year sentence for Ian Wilkinson's attempted murder.

The sentences will all be served at the same time.

Mushroom lunch survivor speaks outside court

By Melissa Brown

Standing on the steps of the Supreme Court, Ian Wilkinson says he wants to thank the police, particularly the Homicide Squad and Detective Stephen Eppinstall.

"They made a professional, efficient and effective investigation into what happened at the lunch," he says.

"They brought to light the truth of what happened with the death of three good people."

What a beautiful man. Such dignity and grace.

Anyone else would have been as scathing in their impact statement as Beale was in his preamble to the sentence.

82-years-old until she is free: Erin Patterson learns her fate

By

Erin Patterson stood for the judge as the sentence was read out. Life in prison with a non-parole period of 33 years.

This makes her Victoria’s longest-serving female inmate after a life sentence with a non-parole period of 33 years was imposed. She will just have turned 82 when she gets out.

With no reaction or emotion, she was led out of courtroom four at Victoria’s Supreme Court, tapping twice on the media bench as she walked past.

Erin Patterson’s mushroom lunch guests: Don Patterson, Gail Patterson, Heather Wilkinson and Ian Wilkinson.

During Justice Christopher Beale’s sentencing remarks, Patterson largely kept her eyes closed, except for one moment.

When the judge spoke of the intense media scrutiny Patterson has been made to endure, and how that will make her jail time harder, she opened her eyes to glare at the reporters in the Supreme Court taking notes during her sentencing.

It was a pointed look after more than 10 minutes of listening to Justice Beale with her eyes closed.

I’m glad it’s all over and that everyone can move on. At least. The poor family has probably been in suspended animation until today, and now the grief will no doubt be the focus again. :(

As for the kids, a whole new grief will probably begin today. Tragic, horrific. :(

My thoughts exactly!! Should be 3 life sentences!

definitely won’t forget the case though. And I will continue to pop in here from time to time.

At the end of day , Erin is going to spend the next 30 odd years crocheting alone in a cell.

That is a really long time.

I'm sorta OK with that.

I also think that there is no possibility of an appeal being granted.

I don't think she will ever be free to roam in society again........

I feel like we have all been holding our breath for over 2 years and finally can put it behind us. I’m also tired of hearing about her. It’s been such an over saturation of coverage that I’m burnt out!

IMO

Next I will be hoping she loses her appeal(s).

I wish she would just go silently into the night and not continue to agitate the family’s trauma, but she will without doubt spend the rest of her life trying to get out. :(

I sincerely hope that her children and Simon get whatever therapy and financial restitution they need to move on with their lives, consider moving to where they aren't known and that Erin fades into obscurity in solitary confinement for the rest of her life.
