Makes me a bit uncomfortable hearing CS is hiding her face from media, when does their attention become intrusion and damaging to her?

Yes I know what a TAb is but I mean was he seen there? When ? Who with ? Maybe I’ve not read that but yet

Ok, that was referenced in a news article linked. You’ll need to scroll up if it’s still there.

The Melbourne Cup was run at 3pm Melbourne time, which I think is 12.oo pm WA time?

So lunch time not night time on the Tuesday

The damage might not surface for decades.
Which is why the media monetization of CS's face needs to stop yesterday.
Even if CS's parents continue to approve it happen, the media should decline to continue doing it, in the best interests of CS.
Lest they be aiding and abetting what some might consider to be a form of child abuse.

TAB's new eye in the sky artificial intelligence

Wagering giant Tabcorp is preparing to install artificial intelligence-powered video surveillance in its 400 TAB agencies in what it says is a world-first bid to prevent underage gambling.

The $9.5 billion group recently completed an eight-week trial in three Melbourne TAB agencies to test software that identifies when someone potentially under the age of 18 enters a betting shop.

Tabcorp's executive general manager of wagering Andy Wright said the company was satisfied with the trial and would start rolling out the new technology in agencies across Australia from the middle of 2020.

"In retail, you have the anonymity of cash and there's a heightened level of risk around that," Mr Wright said.

"Ensuring full compliance with laws and our license obligations is vital to our business and this is one measure that will support that."

Unlike in the booming online betting market, gamblers in retail betting shops do not need to create an account, verify their identity or pay with a credit card when they bet in stores.

They can also place bets on self-service terminals in retail venues, meaning they do not necessarily interact with a TAB employee who can check their age.

During the trial, video cameras were trained on the entrance of the venue to scan the face of each customer as they entered. That was fed into a computer program which analyses their facial features to estimate how old they are.

If deemed someone was 25 years old, or younger, it sent an alert and image of that customer to an employee, who could approach them to verify their age.

Tabcorp placed a sign at the entrance of its trial agencies using the software, notifying them that the technology was being used.

"We were a little bit concerned that it might be to the detriment of turnover, but this didn't happen," Mr Wright said.

"Cameras are common in retail environments, banks, service stations, ATMs, pubs and clubs and it's broadly accepted by customers. We've just got to make sure that whatever we do doesn't compromise our privacy obligations."

The facial recognition software will not be used at TAB retail terminals inside pubs and clubs.

The group is now trying to slim down the technology, so that employees can receive alerts on an iPad or portable electronic device.

Tabcorp worked with Eliiza, an Australian machine learning and artificial intelligence agency, and three vendors of facial recognition software during the trial.

The maximum fine for letting a minor bet in NSW is $5500 and in Victoria is $19,800.

Mr Wright would not say how much it will cost to roll out the technology, other than it was a "substantial investment".

Underage gambling? TAB's new eye in the sky artificial intelligence can stop that

In the article below there are other photos from the same day (yesterday) with CS showing her face.

<snipped>

This article also states:

Carried in her mother’s arms, the four-year-old had a big smile on her face while she was greeted by a detective, who escorted the family inside

It's all in the reporting isn't it, one article states CS is "hiding" her face, another article she has a "big smile" on her face.

The article I paraphrased did say that CS smiled at them all (including the police officers) when she arrived. It was when she was leaving that she hid her face.

(I tried to specify that it was when she was leaving, sorry for the confusion.)

The accused might have been placing bets at the Carnarvon TAB for any number of other people, on that first Tuesday in November Melbourne Cup day.
All of those people (if there were any) will need to be identified and interviewed by Police to see if they can assist with the investigation.

CS found: Col Blanch rules mystery woman out of CS investigation but not second person
Shannon Hampton and Sarah Steger - PerthNow
November 10, 2021 3:48PM

One of WA’s top cops has ruled out claims police are investigating a woman in relation to CS Smith’s abduction.

Deputy Police Commissioner Col Blanch, when asked about reports that a mystery woman was under investigation by detectives probing Terence Kelly’s alleged kidnapping of the four-year-old, unequivocally said: “I can rule that out”.

When asked if police had ruled out that second person could have been involved, Mr Blanch said “the investigation is ongoing, that’s all I’ll say at this time”.

Pushed on the subject, Mr Blanch, who has said police would not be making further comment while the case was before the courts, said “my comment is I’m making no comment on the investigation of this”.

“Deliberately I’ve stepped away from the investigation, he said.

“I’ve let the Taskforce Rodia team conduct their investigation. As I said earlier, a man has been charged.

Police rule out mystery woman

Totally agree, it’s time for media to leave town too.

He was seen in that car only a few weeks ago....... car pride....Zero! Taken from the article in the Daily Mail on 5th Nov:-

"Neighbour Henry Dodd claimed he saw the accused kidnapper with a dozen dolls in the back of his dark blue Mazda one week before his arrest, when police were desperately scouring the state searching for CS."

Abductor with a car full of dolls

The perception of time within the area has been way off with the resident's and some media outlet's are just reporting on what they've said without following up if in fact it is true.

For eg they were saying PW died 3yrs ago, when in fact she only passed away just over 12mths ago.

They have said TK lived at that house for yrs, when we know TK hasn't and lived with PW at a different location.

So last week or a few weeks ago could be totally way off. Given they don't have a normal routine eg up playing basketball at 1am etc etc in the morning, time and day isn't really significant to their day to day living IMO

I agree that the media now need to stop following CS, enough is enough I say. The family and CS need to try and start a normal balance in life and that can't happen with media constantly being in their faces.

It's a shame LE didn't ask for a suppression for media to stop using CS name and taking photo's of CS and the family.

I ve been thinking about the person who said no prison record for TK. What about mental health residential?

or alternatively perhaps it was a rumour from neighbours and he had just come back into town? If he did work he could have been out rural ? Or perhaps visiting his mum as he sought her out after PW died ... isn’t it bad karma to continue to live in a place a loved one died ? Perhaps that’s why PW moved if one of the grandchildren died

IMO and just thoughts

Could it be that TK and PW lived together in the Tonkin Cr house up until three years ago, and then PW moved to the unit named in the death notice? Then when the neighbours heard that she'd died they assumed it happened back when she stopped living there at Tonkin?

Geez, I can't believe the press are still taking photos of CS. It's ghoulish.

I think the nation generally wants her to be left in peace to recover now. The photographers are mistaken if they think the public are screaming out for more photos. It's tasteless.

It’s interesting that CS was wide awake in the wee small hours when she was rescued, suggesting that she may have been adjusted onto ‘TK time’ in those 18 days. Also remembering how she fell asleep during her parental reunion. It would certainly be easier to conceal a child if she was sleeping when most of the neighbourhood was active. Just my own notions.

I’ve pondered this too Okapi.

I wondered if, given it was reported that all the windows were blackened out, that she just fell asleep when tired, and played other times ?
( how black out were those window covers ? We’re they black plastic or something ?? No light shining through past midnight ? CS apparently was playing when they found her at that time )

And I also thought about TK’s neighbour saying TK was in the backyard late / early / just woken up - the house has been reported as a One Bedroom.
I wasn’t clear on if that One was the Doll room or it’s One Plus the Doll room - however if only One room (dolls & all) maybe TK was sleeping in yard so as not to encroach on CS ??

yes Trooper - I hear you, this whole situation is weirder than weird!

I haven’t put a great deal of thought into CS’s sleep pattern but depending on her exact age she may have still been napping in the afternoons.
If TK wasn’t aware of this then he would have messed with her sleeping pattern just by her missing that afternoon nap. She would probably crash out around 6pm and if he let her sleep too long she’d be up all night. I can’t imagine that he’d ever work that out either which probably explains her looking quite fresh at 1am.

I did find it strange that the neighbour said TK was sitting in the backyard at 3am too. Why outside instead of on his couch/sofa in comfort? Did he even have a lounge and tv etc? He’s such a mysterious character.
