I have also been pondering this these last three years-seeing as how JeM didnt return to finish what ever small jobs he began, there must have been things unfinished that were obvious. And we know that RB and PB didnt question their BIL regarding what he was working on, so perhaps there was no one to finish these little tasks unless these women were especially handy.
They all seemed so committed to having the house ready for Fontelle-right down to those sheets.
Zwiebel, did you know those very same sheets were on the memorabilia list of things the girls demanded from the house? YUP-JuM demanded the sheets back.
His "furbabies" Cubby.![]()
She shouldn't have done. She won't be sleeping well on them.
Are furbabies dogs? JeM has dogs?
zwiebel, have you read the memorabilia list? It's quite long and was authored by JuM.
Let me go find the link and add it. brb.
I agree that forensics would have shown something, and may have. OC Sheriff's CSI processed the house, a second look undoubtedly-wasnt that in 2011 folks? We are talking state of the art, sophisticated well financed OC Sheriff's CSI. There is something there, I feel quite sure. We were positive at the time of the visit. Actually it was a local neighbor who tipped us off, if I recall correctly. One of Bob's neighbors, I mean. In any case, in spite of the house being in the hands of family until Fontelle returned, I am sure they got what they expected from the house.
If we, from a distance, seem unsure about the description information given to LE by the people on the ground who last saw him standing in front of him, I think we have to go back to the unmade bed and what Bob might have been wearing (and why) when JeM arrived.
So if searchers or hikers are out and about, there is little chance of spotting a hat, keys, a wallet, glasses etc if they werent with him.
Let's run for a moment with the possibility that Bob was in some kind of nightwear or leisure wear that maybe didnt contain pockets-I wonder what a 3 year exposure to the elements might have done to them? And what if searchers should be looking for slippers not shoes??
Oh no Cubby, oh no. I didn't think of that, it never occurred to me. That is such a terrible, terrible picture.
I know something awful; deadly has happened to Bob. I just really, really, wish it could be some random, crazy stranger. Thinking of his terror is bad enough, thinking of his terror and the utter betrayal he would have felt at the same time is so horrible. And I know how those things break. I know how heavy they are. I don't know how anyone could do that and carry on with any sort of life worth living after. You would have to go at least a little mad because nearly all your humanity would be lost in an act like that.
I hate to speculate on what injuries Bob might have received-there is no question in my mind that he was terrified and likely put up a good fight. He was a Marine. He had lived a long life and seen many things. He was in full possession of his faculties, and in spite of his bad knees, I believe he likely went down swinging.
At least two people know for sure-Bob and his attacker.![]()
I agree.
My dad's knees are in great condition but he's still competitive with the (all younger) guys at the gym. He can't lift like they can but where he excels is in the cardio machines, where he just zips along and leaves his virtual path strewn with gasping, nauseated wretches who thought they could keep up with an 84 year old man, no problem.
You can take the man out of the Marines (or Army, in my father's case) but you can't take the Marine out of the man.
But then I start to wonder if it was a surprise attack. In his own home, Bob would be relaxed and at ease, particularly if it were, say 10 am and he wasn't expecting anyone in until noon. Do we know if Bob had any hearing loss? If so, that would also make him easier to sneak up on.
In a way, I so much hope it was a surprise attack and Bob literally never knew he was attacked. I'd rather think of him tunelessly humming his way through his morning routine and then suddenly nothing than think of him desperately fighting for his life.
Actually, sorry, I've got to come back to this - JuM RECLAIMED THE SHEETS she had given as a gift to her father and his wife? Sheets? A gift? Took them back?
At this point I should I be feeling sorry for her and her family. I have been very poor myself at times in the past and know the point she must have reached to do that; no money for heat, food or light for herself, you have sold the car, the furniture, the jewellery; everything. No job and waiting to hear if you have one.....and then the dog food runs out. Then you have to go back and do the unspeakable - snatch back the gifts you willingly gave just to get the few dollars for your dogs to survive, though you wouldn't do it for yourself.
Luckily, I never let my dogs reach that stage. But I sympathise......almost.
You can take the man out of the Marines (or Army, in my father's case) but you can't take the Marine out of the man.
