Sadly I’m of the opinion the kids truly did wander off and they drowned somewhere and just haven’t been found yet. Not sure how many agree with that viewpoint.
I think a lot of people who have never lived rural, especially in a forested area, have no idea just how easy it is to get lost and never be found. When I think of the shenanigans I, and all the other kids I knew growing up, got into I wonder how amazing it is that we got through unscathed. I'm from Sask, not NS, but I can totally buy into Jack and Lilly being amongst the unfortunate few children that are lost to misadventure every year.

I wasn't much older than Lilly when I was walking to the end of the driveway every morning by myself to get picked up by the school bus. And that wasn't weird at all at the time. I could hear coyotes howling in the dark to boot!

so are you saying that she didnt need to change the status to let Daniel know the relationship was over? I'd agree with that. So why bother making that effort? I'm just trying to understand what the point was. Its not that big of a deal guess, maybe the purpose was to just block him and while there she changed her status, and its been made a bigger deal than it is.
No I’m not saying that. My only point was to clarify about the relationship being over for anyone who was maybe trying to get an answer on that based on the social media activity.

I think the social media activity is odd and can be seen as a way to distance herself from him to the public. However I might not be the best judge of it because imo I think it’s odd for adults to be creating/updating Facebook relationship statuses in general. It all seems a bit immature to me.

OK I get it, and I guess thats my point also. They had the same story day 1. She said nothing about mistrusting Daniel and called him " her partner" the status change the very next day conflicts obviously. So if there is more to know I sure hope she is talking to the police.

Besides being pinned for the murders, I think the parents are both afraid of other facts, that they don't want LE or people to know about.
I really want to believe these kids were adventurous, but it is starting to smell really bad.
Time for LE to turn up the heat. I'd start with "carefully planted leaks". Nothing to compromise the cases, but something to make the people involved to make erratic statements or movements. There is something in those trailers & outbuildings that will tell a story
Finger crossed they are being surveilled.

My wee g-kiddo is the same age and goes to school in NS. She wears her backpack around the house even if she isn't going to school. She carries her favourite things in there, most of which don't make sense to adults.
Other moms above have also mentioned that their kids did the same thing.

Further to the backpack discussion - I was at the dress rehearsal for the local kids' ballet event, and onstage, wearing her tutu, was a sweet little 5 year old who had to be asked to take off her backpack for a few minutes for their dance.

She made me think of Lilly.

I think the RCMP dropped the ball in this investigation. It was reported the children had wandered off, and the RCMP stuck to that narrative. I surmise the step father was suppose to watch the kids and fell asleep, or was indisposed.

To be fair to the RCMP, we don't know everything they know. They are notoriously tight-lipped during investigations until they have a "decent hand", so to speak. I followed the Bryer Schmegelsky and Kam McLeod murders very closely and that investigation began fairly quiet until the RCMP had enough evidence to publicly name those two as persons of interest.

I'm guessing at this point they lack sufficient evidence to publicly name any persons of interest, and that's why we haven't heard anything - not necessarily because they have no good leads.

I'm guessing the RCMP are interviewing anyone on the National Sexual Offender's Registry residing in NS, but don't want to alarm the public. I think that's a grievous error on their part as is not communicating with the public. They haven't said to the public to be watchful, monitor their children, or that they've made an arrest, or the public is safe.

They wouldn't do that until/unless they have enough evidence to suspect a person of interest and have determined that person is a credible threat to the public. No use in scaring the public if it is not an abduction case.

If the relationship was already having problems before the kids disappeared, then maybe those kids were the cause of their problems. Lily screams, from the video that I saw, and Jack is still not potty trained. It looked like there was a child size mattress thrown in the yard from possible bedwetting. DM is looking more and more like he had motive for their disappearance. In a warped mind, after getting rid of the kids that were not his own, he and Maleyha could start a new life with their new baby. But who really knows at this point.

The child trafficking scenario is always a strong possibility, and I guess motive would need to be established. But I find it hard to believe a mother would sell her kids vs abduction.

IMO, Parents selling their children is very rare, and this case doesn't seem like one of those rare cases. It doesn't seem planned-out, and it doesn't match with their quick break-up.

I admit it crossed my mind for just a moment that one or both if them might have owed someone a debt, though. But again it's rare for that to lead to abduction, and nothing points to that so far.

Sadly I’m of the opinion the kids truly did wander off and they drowned somewhere and just haven’t been found yet. Not sure how many agree with that viewpoint.

I haven't completely ruled out the kids simply having misadventure out in the forest. It has happened to other kids. But if that's all that happened, I think both of them would be frantic, wanting to be out there searching.

Maybe they both were, though. The mother didn't appear frantic to me but could have been on the inside. We do not know how they actually acted that morning nor when LE arrived.

I think the social media activity is odd and can be seen as a way to distance herself from him to the public. However I might not be the best judge of it because imo I think it’s odd for adults to be creating/updating Facebook relationship statuses in general.

When cases like this hit the media, the public will post horrible comments all over the parents' Facebook profiles. So it could be she wanted to lock hers down and remove "controversial" photos to help prevent that, especially if she is finished with the relationship.

Here we go, indeed the RCMP are working the case -

“As RCMP remain tight-lipped about the investigation into the disappearance of two young Nova Scotia children, a resident who lives near their rural home says she has turned over trail camera footage at the request of investigators spanning five days before they were reported missing.…..

…..M Scott, 44, said she was visited on Tuesday by two officers from the RCMP's major crime unit, who inquired if she had any trail cameras set up on her 16-hectare property in Glengarry Station, roughly five kilometres east of the children's home as the crow flies.

She does — seven in total. One points down her driveway, another is positioned near the house and the rest are scattered throughout the woods. It takes about an hour to walk between them….

……Scott said she was given a USB drive to load her trail camera footage onto. She was initially asked to give them her footage from May 1 to May 3, but they later expanded their request to cover April 27 to May 3.

She said she handed over the footage on Thursday afternoon.

Her property is a roughly eight-kilometre drive from Lansdowne Station down dirt roads, but is also connected to it by train tracks and clearings for utility lines.

Scott said she posted in a private community Facebook group asking her neighbours if they, too, had been visited by the RCMP. She said two other people responded that they had also been approached for footage.…..

…..Scott said she was also asked to confirm information about her and her husband's vehicles, in order to "rule out local traffic" on the footage.

CBC News requested an interview with RCMP and asked specific questions including why they are seeking trail camera footage from prior to the children's disappearance and why they are identifying local vehicles.

The force declined the interview request and pointed to its latest news release from May 18, which provided some details of the latest search efforts.

"To ensure the integrity of the investigation, no further details will be released at this time," said Cpl. Carlie McCann.”

Yes and the dates from April 27 to May 3rd are being looked at. Sunday, April 27th was two days prior to Tuesday, April 29th, the last day the bus driver brought the children home from school. That’s quite a wide reach.

The dates may be to see what the local traffic was like prior to the children missing and any unknown vehicles in the area compared to the dates after the bus driver left them off ie any of the same unknown vehicles or unknown vehicles in general as well. (I hope this makes sense)

Good info! Interesting that the RCMP, for one reason or another, felt the need to expand their search to include 5 days before the day they were reported missing. Evidence, I think, that they don't always share with the public every avenue they're exploring.

Yes. Ms Scott speaking to CBC and detailing exactly what the RCMP was after is a really great leak, well done. Will it rattle anyone, time will tell.
