Well she could, for a while anyway. She could block him and not let him see the baby if she has concerns for the child's safety. I think he'd have to apply for a court order? If that's not how it works in Canada then someone please correct me.

It would become a matter for Child Protective Services to resolve. That she has concerns and intends to erase the father from this young child’s life is merely speculation at this point but even if she plans to go this route and her concerns are deemed to be legitimate, parental visits are often arranged under supervision to resolve those issues. Canada is known to be very considerate with granting both parents access to their children and so it’s very unlikely the father would be denied access to his child, regardless of what she might want.

I suspect there’s just too much going on right now to deal with visitation arrangements and the public would never know what they agree to as that’s a confidential matter.

I don't think the break up of the relationship between mom and step-dad would have to be inconsistent with the kids wandering off on their own and having a misadventure. I have no insight into their relationship, but I would not be surprised if they each feel guilty that they did not provide better supervision and that they may each also blame the other for the same.

The helpless anxiety of the moment - when the stakes are so high - could easily cause a person to lash out with blame (and maybe say some things that would be hard to unsay). The blow up between the two families on Saturday may have been this boiling over. Could it go as far as mom believing step-dad actually did something to the kids? I don't know, but a firm belief that "if only" step-dad had been a better parent and therefore is to blame, would be tough to get over. And so would the guilt that you would be holding - both for your own actions on the day and for having brought the step-dad into their lives.

All MOO.

Daniel's story has definitely evolved. His first statements indicated upon finding out the children were no longer there he immediately jumped into his truck and drove off to check the backroads and culverts. In later interviews he says he ran outside, checked the backyard, they checked the residence, and then he took off to survey the roads and culverts. At some point he describes running through the brush ahead of the helicopters and drones and wading through high water etc. He doesn't clarify the when of that activity.

So perhaps all of these things are true and he is just elaborating with further detail as the days progress. Some describe it as his story changing, but I suppose it could be explained as him providing more detail as his press interactions continued.
<modsnip> He would have to run outside and check the yard and around the house in order to “discover they were gone” u think he meant he didn’t check any other room than the one they were last in, didn’t check the back yard or anywhere else and jumped in the car and took off? <modsnip>

Which is why the whole point of my post was to say that while he initially didn't mention searching the house the yard the general vicinity before jumping in his truck it doesn't mean his story has necessarily changed, it could just be that he is providing more detail of those moments as he progresses through the days and interviews.

What time was the 911 call made?

He did claim he was searching on his own before police arrived. Wouldn’t that be an expected course of action? IMO it wouldn’t sit right with me if he was sitting on the couch enjoying a cup of coffee while waiting for people to come and search.
I agree. Also you can’t really take that statement with a lot of weight. I would think in that situation 10 minutes would feel like an hr. So maybe he thought they took a long time to get there bc that’s what it felt like to him. I haven’t seen an exact call time and an exact arrival time. Correct me if I’m wrong there

RCMP didn’t get their electronic devices until YESTERDAY???

exactly because In my province anyway, "its not the parents right to see the child its the childs right to see the parent". Its supposed to help prevent parental alienation. Allegations can get used as weapons and aren't always 100% accurate.
They can work around how those visits happen dont even need social services, can do with lawyers and a court order.
agreed about too much going on to worry about visits,

Not only was the search emotionally draining, but it was also very physical.

It covered four square kilometers of rough terrain with hurricane Fiona damage, which Veinot says made it really difficult and there were some injuries.

“The terrain was very, very hard to get through. There are dead falls. Also, a lot of swampy areas,” adds Veinot.
[snip]
Not only was the case of Lily and Jack difficult, but the same volunteers helped search for the missing little boy in Guysborough and the lost kayaker who died in Pictou County Lake.

Bless the SARs who do these searches.
