Hmm, maybe that should be the Department of Government Gross Inefficiency, as the head DOGGI and his puppies seem to need a healthy dose of DOGE themselves.
The USA federal government keeps shooting themselves in the foot, but that's the obvious outcome when Musk and his junior computer team are running the government. Some computer geek looked at "nuclear safety", didn't know what it was, and hit "delete". It can be assumed that a lot of critically necessary positions have been wiped out.

"The error is the latest in the Trump administration's attempts to rapidly shrink the size of the government by conducting mass firings of federal workers — an effort that is being carried out by tech billionaire Elon Musk and the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, which is heavily staffed by people who have no experience in government.

On Friday, the administration tried to notify some nuclear safety employees who were fired last week that they are now due to be reinstated — but struggled to find them because they didn’t have their new contact information."

Carney has a plan! Partnering with Australia to protect Canada's North coast.

The USA government is going to be so angry that they will lash out at Canada again before the end of the day. What will it be this time???

"Prime Minister Mark Carney announced investments into the military's infrastructure and presence in the Arctic and into Nunavut infrastructure while visiting its capital of Iqaluit on Tuesday — the first domestic trip of his leadership of Canada.

Carney announced Canada will be working alongside Australia to build an early warning radar system along the Canada-U.S. border into the Arctic. Canada is investing more than $6 billion into the project, money that was already outlined in the modernization plan for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) announced in 2022.
...

The federal government says it's also investing $420 million in new money to protect Canada's sovereignty of land, water and sea. The money will allow the Canadian Armed Forces to have a "greater, sustained and year-round" presence in the Arctic, and will expand its training and deployment in the North, the release said."

Can you imagine the ruckus Toxic Tangerine would have caused if that happened during Biden's term??
Those poor people, good to know they will be reinstated - when Elon finds their contact details. Hope they have the contact details of the 24,000 other federal employees who were fired unnecessarily and now are to be re-hired.

I like Carney!

Just listened to Carney broadcasting from the greater Great White North. The New York Times has a journalist asking questions on site. That's something! Carney's most important statement is that Canada is operating from a position of strength, and when the USA president is ready, Canada will engage in discussions about CUSMA/ USMCA (in response to USA tariffs).

All the goals that the USA government has for the USA, Canada has those same goals for Canada. That's the starting point for any discussions for Canada with the USA.

Although the Canada-Australia alliance was in place before today, priorities have been affirmed, with emphasis on shorter timeline with economic responsibility.

Apparently the USA thinks that they own the Northwest Passage, even though the route goes through Canada. In response, Canada is developing the region (housing, security) around the NW Passage. Canada is asserting that no other country is needed to protect Canada's sovereignty.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says that U.S. trade representatives indicated behind closed doors that they are planning to slap a “global tariff” on trading partners as of April 2, creating a need for Canada to shift its focus to making sure it is “first in line for exemptions.”

What that tells us is that Musk not only wiped out their jobs, but he wiped out all information that they ever had the jobs. He didn't keep any data related to home address, phone number, pension details - nothing. It's as though they never had the job.

The USA government has no plan, no insight into consequence of actions. The government plan it to get rich by robbing other countries, and taxing their own citizens. The consequence of their reckless action will be partial economic isolation (Canada will always supply oil and energy to the USA), loss of freedom of speech, reduced access to necessary public information, dysfunctional social infrastructure, unemployment, increased cost of living, recession. I'm curious how long it will take for the problems to become widespread.

Without robbing Greenland and Canada of their natural resources, current policies will not make anyone in the USA rich.

Not sure this would help the US egg situation...

Kennedy’s Alarming Prescription for Bird Flu on Poultry Farms

The health secretary has suggested allowing the virus to spread, so as to identify birds that may be immune. Such an experiment would be disastrous, scientists say.

[...]

Yet veterinary scientists said letting the virus sweep through poultry flocks unchecked would be inhumane and dangerous, and have enormous economic consequences.

“That’s a really terrible idea, for any one of a number of reasons,” said Dr. Gail Hansen, a former state veterinarian for Kansas.

Since January 2022, there have been more than 1,600 outbreaks reported on farms and backyard flocks, occurring in every state. More than 166 million birds have been affected.

Every infection is another opportunity for the virus, called H5N1, to evolve into a more virulent form. Geneticists have been tracking its mutations closely; so far, the virus has not developed the ability to spread among people.

But if H5N1 were to be allowed to run through a flock of five million birds, “that’s literally five million chances for that virus to replicate or to mutate,” Dr. Hansen said.

Large numbers of infected birds are likely to transmit massive amounts of the virus, putting farm workers and other animals at great risk.

Makes me sick, profiting off the hard working people, some who are blindly following this insanity. Who are they going to point the finger at when they lose their job, can't feed their family, lose their homes, can't afford adequate health care, can't live in the "right" catchment areas to educate their children at a good school, where lawlessness is running unchecked on the streets because there's cuts being made to vital public services.
All the while those countries that America has ostracised with their global tariffs have made trade agreements elsewhere, introducing other countries to the table that haven't been considered before, new relationships and allies being forged and America will be watching from the side lines.
Carney sounds like he's doing a good job so far? Long way to go but a hopeful start. Hope that reassures the amazing people of Canada and I hope he continues to fight for his country and it's people.

(Scuse my flitting from one thing to another, too many words in my head and not enough time!)

This cannot possibly be legal.

Businesses are required to keep employee records and payroll information for years on end. How on earth can these illegally fired employes document their prior job duties and salaries when they go looking for new jobs?

I hope there is some mechanism whereby these unfairly fired employees can sure the DOGE group in a class action lawsuit for their loss of funds as well as intentional destruction of employment records.

I was perusing a cruise forum and came across a Topic of Canadians wanting to Avoid American-owned Cruises.

What was interesting was trying to figure out which cruise lines are actually owned by American companies and which are not. Althought it might only be a handful of people posting on the board, it also had New Zealanders and Australians who were commenting about not wanting to support an American-based cruise lines, too.
I've already canceled a cruise because I didn't want to step foot in Florida. There are a lot of cruise line but who owns them is pretty labyrinthine. It's unfortunate that many of them are based in Florida which is top of my list of not visiting.

Sometimes, Donald Trump has very much a Nicolae Ceausescu of Romania air about him, especially the cult of personality....Nicolae , in his petty spite took to his people with real vengeance, instantly banning abortion and contraception.. women had to have 5 children, he wanted a large workforce, all Romanian....he didn't want any 'foreigners' in.. This large workforce was going to manufacture toasters and vacuum cleaners and pancake makers in sheds in their residences, somehow...

''''Doctors monitored women of childbearing age to ensure that they were not taking steps to curtail their fertility, but maternal mortality rates skyrocketed as women sought unsafe and outlawed means to terminate their pregnancies. In an effort to pay off the large foreign debt that his government had accumulated through its mismanaged industrial ventures in the 1970s, Ceaușescu in 1982 ordered the export of much of the country’s agricultural and industrial production. The resulting extreme shortages of food, fuel, energy, medicines, and other basic necessities drastically lowered living standards and intensified unrest.''''''

Ceaușescu also instituted an extensive personality cult and appointed his wife, Elena, and many members of his extended family to high posts in the government and party. Among his grandiose and impractical schemes was a plan to bulldoze thousands of Romania’s villages and move their residents into so-called agrotechnical centres.

( from the Britannica, Nicolae Ceausescu | Biography, Death, & Facts | Britannica )

The personality cult was a huge part of Ceausescu's regime... Romanians had to adore his ghastly wife, Elena, a tremendous yapper,, as well, or else.. Both of them met a sticky end, if that brings any comfort!!.. I watched a bit of Trump at the Kennedy centre thingo, and the terrific resemblance was horrifying...
I remember when they were executed - on Christmas Day! His wife was yapping right up until the end.

That won't matter. There are routes East through Canada/Greenland, and routes West through Western Canada. The USA can battle with Russia over the Bering Strait all they like.

If we're comparing the price of eggs, I see that Aldi, Britain's cheapest supermarket, will sell me a dozen eggs for £2.39. That's 3.10 USD and 4.43 CAD.
