On a practical level, what can we, regular people living not far from Canadian border, do? I plan to travel to Canada more all the same that I like hockey. But we usually stay in the hotel, walk around Vancouver, go to a local theater and museums. What else do we have to do to help you more? Eat or drink something special? I am just thinking that there should be some movement to offset it.
How about shop at their small businesses? 🛒 🛍️ Maybe get your Christmas shopping over and done with.🎄🎅 :) Do you need new shoes? 👞🥿Clothing? 👚👖

Canada foreign minister takes Trump 51st state line 'very seriously'.
Canada's Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly has told the BBC she takes US President Donald Trump's remarks on making Canada the 51st state of his country "very seriously".
"This is not a joke anymore," Joly told Newsnight. "There's a reason why Canadians, when they go out on a hockey game, are booing the American national anthem... We're insulted. We're mad. We're angry."

And Canadians across the spectrum are very, very united against any threat to make us "the beloved 51st state".

Elbows up.

This, yes. For sure. This I have already asked. I have some friends with good "designer" taste. And don't get me wrong, they are traveling too. But I thought there should be some interesting routes. Or even thinking of making some. Never been to New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, btw, I might need some good advices.

So it's the opposite to the Temperance Law, lol. My own opinion, you are not losing much with Kentucky Bourbon. Ironically, local to me Westland’s Garryana American Single Malt is rated high, but i am not a specialist.
Darn, the general situation is so weird.

I've been seeing jokes on social media to the effect of 'You know you effed up when you got Quebec to unite with the rest of Canada' lol. A couple companies like Flair Airlines and Pizza Pizza have been running ad campaigns with tariff sales.

I'm in Saskatchewan and many people want our provincial government to play hard ball with potash and uranium exports.

Feel free to reach out. I divvy my time between New Brunswick (Winter) and the cottage in Nova Scotia (Spring/Summer). Don't miss out on PEI or Newfoundlad! They are also beautiful.

Imagine the biggest joke: Canada agrees and "joins as the 51st state." It will be the biggest swing state ever. I know Canada is not that united either, but can, for a good cause. Then comes our electoral vote and all of these dudes lose their positions just like that! No question of "who takes Florida or Texas?" Hey, it could nominate a decent Canadian as US president! (Just dreaming).

Trump tariff timeline (my interpretation based on his announcements):

T: We're going to impose 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico. Because.... (make up stuff about fentanyl at the border)

T: OK, Mexico and Canada have bowed to our demands, so far, so we will give them a 1 month reprieve.

T: Those scoundrels! They aren't bowing deep enough. Yes, I'm absolutely going to impose those tariffs, maybe.

T: We're down to the final day. Mexico and Canada are out of time so I am DEFINITELY imposing 25% tariffs on both of those scoundrels.
T: It's the day of, and, well, I might not impose ALL of the tariffs.

I believe that the market tanking and the farmers who need their fertilizer, and the manufacturers who need their aluminum and nickel, caused Trump to cave. His plan was ill-advised from the start. MOO.

I think he just likes jerking people around and is trying to lead by bullying rather than diplomacy (or intelligence).

12:40 p.m. EST: Trudeau, Trump speak amid trade war

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, CTV News has confirmed.

The phone call happened not long ago, according to a source.

It comes a day after Trump levied massive tariffs on Canada and Trudeau responded with a first phase of retaliatory countermeasures.

According to a senior government source, discussions continue with Americans.

The official said that U.S. Vice President JD Vance and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick joined the call.

A “very short” readout is expected to be issued shortly.

Are there any interesting routes to the Natives territories in summer?
Seriously, give us advises, please. New routes? We are always open to them. We once drove from Toronto to Ontario through Kingston, but maybe there are other interesting places?
We as Canadians feel the same way about Point Roberts. how do we as Canadians help support Point Roberts yes it's a United States town but is only accessible threw Canada. We know they are feeling the pinch but they very much support Canada you see it in the bumper stickers and when you talk to the residents. This is just a mess jmoo

Farmer here. Did not vote for Trump.

I'm truly sorry for how this is going to impact American farmers such as yourself who didn't vote for T. Hopefully there are enough sensible Americans who can call a stop to this insanity.

I believe that T and his goons are deliberately creating chaos in the markets in order to create financial uncertainty and thereby manipulate the markets to their personal advantage. It's just one more way that the one percent will get wealthier at the expense of the common workers.

This is wild. Yeah, Canada and Mexico are 'saying they'll do better'. Seriously? Do you think we are stupid? Trump is caving. He had an ill-conceived plan to make Mexico and Canada out as the bad guys, and when the markets showed that they didn't believe him, the markets tanked. False excuses by Trump's supporters.

Oh how I wish there was a barf emoji in response to making out Mexico and Canada as the bad guys.

Great comments by Trudeau.
"Every country is very, very aware that if the American government is willing to do this to their own closest ally and friend...everyone is vulnerable to a trade war.
And our ability to work together thoughtfully and strategically to make sure we are supporting our citizens in a more diversified way..., is something that is on the mind of all of our allies. "

It's a pretty sad situation when the Canadian Prime Minister shows more concern for the American people than does their own president.

Yep , there's a lot being said about our natural resources that go across the border ,water, gas, oil, electricity, silver, potash, uranium, aluminum ,lumber and don't forget the eggs. I think this is going to be fafo moment. I mean look at the way people are talking about Wayne Gretzky now a lot of us Canadians liked him not so many now. Jmoo

Sauvé: I served alongside Americans. Now I feel utterly betrayed by them. I feel betrayed. I served alongside Americans, in their homeland and abroad. We took in their planes and passengers on 9/11. We share sports teams. We have an integrated economy. We maintain the longest unprotected border in the world — because we are friends. Yet when the White House threatens us, the American people remain conspicuously silent
