I don't believe we know how much is coming through the Canadian border. There are so many rural areas along the border that would be easy to slip through. Now that they Mexican border is much more secure, I believe more will try to come through Canada.

Last year alone, enough fentanyl came through to kill a million souls. I don't mind paying an extra 25%, even pay an extra 50% if we can stop the fentanyl from flowing into the United States.

The Canada-USA border is the responsibility of both countries, not just Canada. Drugs and guns from the USA into Canada is a growing problem that is not managed by USA border security.

If illegal drugs and guns crossing the border represented a security risk, Canada should have declared war on the USA a long time ago.

Yes it is up to each individual country to protect their own borders. I was kind of hoping that Canada would help out. We sent the majority of our resources to the Mexican border. I fear once they cannot through Mexico, they will try to Canada.

Yes I think border security does a great job. Entering Canada is very difficult. It's those rural areas where there are no border security checkpoints. I have a friend that lives almost right on the Canadian border. It's an absolutely breathtaking area, so peaceful. You can just walk right across the border, I've done it. I have pictures straddling the line. Mexican you can just walk right in you don't even need an ID.

what were you hoping Canada would help out with? Serious question.

30-Flats of eggs here still at $4.88 Canadian ($3.41 US).

There was a collapse in distribution of produce from the Okanagan last summer, and we were only getting American fruit. I hope that is quickly corrected and the BC fruit growers have a great year.

Apples and cherrys were good it was peaches plums. This year will be much better as long as the fires stay away we didn't get crazy winter weather in bc for a change .My apple blossoms are starting to show soon our cherry blossoms start . Looking to enlarge our garden this year lol hopefully the growing season is gentle to both country's we all have enough drama to deal with .

It’s not illegal and this particular action is a Provincial mandate not federal. There was no law regarding this. Premier Doug Ford chose to do this.

I wonder if a duty will be applied to alcohol when it comes across the border.

I would think it would be dutied at the standard rate +25% for the tariff.

Alcohol coming in from the USofA is tariffed at 25% now. Ford, just chose to take it completely off the shelves as have most other provinces. Those that haven't are allowing the stocks that were already here to deplete from their shelves and will avoid re-stocking. That actually 'hurts' much more as it cuts the sales to zero. Canadians don't pay 25% more for what isn't on their shelves. Those manufacturers will lose 100% of their profits.

We got eggs at Co-op yesterday for $2.75 a dozen but they were the XL brown eggs which was a bonus. The Aussie grapes were $1.49 a lb less then 1/2 the price of the green grapes we got a few weeks before.the Aussie cherries sold out fast

I don't think you are alone with this thought. Donald had a shouting match tantrum on live TV last week. That's very unusual. He said that he is "punishing" Canada, as though Canadians have been bad little children who need to be punished. Bizarre. He signs orders to impose a 25% tariff on Canada due to border security claims, then he keeps changing the dates and the tariffs even though the alleged border security is unchanged - per claims from Donald. It's incoherent.

Donald claims that that the USA subsizes Canada in the amount of "hundreds of billions of dollars" annually, but no one anywhere can find evidence of this. He claims that Biden is responsible for the egg shortage, even though everyone knows it's due to bird flu in the USA. There are many more strange remarks - too many to list.

Problem is maybe the Pattison stranglehold on grocery stores, mine just blanket-imports US produce, it's too far for me to go to a different one unless I'm already there - so I buy farmstand veg, but it's too cold here for good fruit.

I recently retired from a career working with seniors. His behaviour has for months reminded me of those seniors I encountered dealing with dementia.
There was a lot to discuss around the horrific treatment of Zelenskyy at the White House, but folks seemed to pass over the bizarre rambling on trump’s part - you know, his usual rambles that loop in Hilary, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden’s laptop - hey, maybe it was “the weave”, lol! But it sure looks like dementia to me. Sad!

This is why I don't see long term or strategic thinking from Trump. There's too many inconsistent, purposeless policies at work, along with supporters with an assortment of agendas. But it's all very damaging. JMO
