I wonder if this is going to affect flights from Canadian cities to vacation spots in Mexico and the Caribbean where their flights might transit US airports.

Such as Canadians booking Canadian flights, rather than US ones. Will also affect the Las Vegas casino business, where Canadians love to visit.

I know air Canada and west jet have no stop flights to Mexico . Also Cuba is a pretty cheap trip with a lot to see and do. I have a friend that loves cruises she's done Alaska the Bahamas she's now looking into doing a UK cruise that looks amazing. I know we are doing Manitoba this summer . My niece is doing west Edmonton mall instead of mall of America. There's so many options available. Canadians are angry it takes a lot to tick us off

This is probably a bad time to be considering a trip to the Candadian Maritimes for a US citzen. (Hangs head in shame)

I feel for you. When we were in Mx, we met the nicest people from Colorado. They were as sympathetic and apologetic as could be. I am sure we would welcome anyone like that with open arms, should they choose to vacation in Canada. And you would love the Maritimes!

IMO that wasn't so much a sense that he may have betrayed his people by fraternizing with the 'enemy', but probably had more to do with envy from all the people who have sacrificed their normal trip.

The need for sunshine and wearing t-shirts and flip flops for a week or two is intense. It's not about staying in fancy resorts, just a rental condo, RV or motel, and fast food, with a beach within driving distance is enough for many....

USA scientists must seek prior government approval to speak to other scientists. I see this as interference with freedom of speech, but I'm a foreigner where we have freedom of expression. I'm curious how Donald's supporters interpret this. Are scientists climate nutters who should not be allowed to discussed their nutty ideas? Only scientists will be silenced, no one else will lose freedom of speech?

Prohibiting scientists from discussing ideas is good because __________?

Honestly we don't hate American citizens we love visitors i have some awesome American friends. Unfortunately in this mess it comes out like we hate Americans but we don't it's the damn tariffs and trump. We loved going to the USA . Hopefully in the future it gets better . Hopefully we get back to respecting each others country's and differences. Jmvho

It won't. There are direct flights from international airports across Canada to Mexico, Caribbean, Europe, Australia and everywhere else in the world. There's no reason to make a pit-stop in the USA.

Myself and my family visited the US quite a lot (from Australia). Just about every year. We won't be going there again for a long time. We are working out the best (shortest) routes that avoid the US to visit family in Canada.

We are not the only Aussies avoiding the US. I have quite a few other friends that feel the same - which indicates, to me, that there may be many more also. It is too scary there now.

It should be seen as forewarning of what is to come. If scientists can be told that they are not allowed to speak to other scientists about global events, who is next?

Donald always tests the water before he goes all in - that's exactly what he's doing today with tariffs. I think silencing scientists is the first step, and they are not just silenced from speaking to foreign scientists, they will be restricted from sending alarm bells about everything that matters.

I think the only thing Trump can really do is prevent agencies from communicating on an official basis. Individuals still have freedom of speech. US government rules that have been in place for years, though, can prevent a government employee from publishing something for a profit while employed, if the material derives from their government work. But sharing information, unless it has security restrictions, is defensible free speech. JMO

Probationary employees can be terminated for poor performance, but many who lost their jobs had stellar performance, and proof of it. Certain veterans and disabled veterans cannot be terminated casually.

The scientists are afraid that they will be terminated without cause, which is a real possibility, regardless of tenure. JMO
