Canuks are now (always have been really) set for the long haul on beer.

Nova Scotia's Moosehead Breweries has just released the

"Moosehead Presidential Pack":
Sold by the crated pallet:
of 1461 cans of Moosehead beer
- one can for every day that a President's term lasts.

That'll be a 2 month supply for a Canuk! --- or to the end of Hockey Season.

Elbows Up! <--- Nova Scotia's own Peace By Chocolate now offering that "Elbows Up" as new chocolate bar too! Great label!

His warped mind is going at warp speed. CANADIAN visitors are a much looked forward to in USA come holidays and season, especially in FLORIDA, home of RUBIO. Much needed money by the hotel, BnB owners, restaurants, you name it. How they survive a lot of them, the large additional income they look forward to. This will mayyybe turn some of their head away from t.
Australian visitors to the USA are getting day by day updates and warnings... ... at the moment, they are just along the lines of keep your head down and your eyes open , and walk tall and quickly to your destination, do not collect your $200... Today's warning is quite mild, in comparison to last years January warning, but even so, it's still on a par with anyone visiting the Congo.

Safety

  • Avoid areas where demonstrations and protests are occurring due to the potential for unrest and violence. Monitor media for information, follow the instructions of local authorities and abide by any curfews.
  • Violent crime is more common in the United States than in Australia. Gun crime is also prevalent. If you live in the United States, learn and practice active shooter drills.
  • There is a persistent threat of mass casualty violence and terrorist attacks in the United States. Be alert, particularly in public places and at events.
  • Severe weather and natural hazards include earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, landslides, avalanches, hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms, extreme temperatures, wildfires, and floods. Monitor weather conditions and follow the advice and instructions of local authorities, including evacuation orders.
Full travel advice---\\ ( this is from the Australian Smart Traveller guide, a Govt Org. )

( what is active shooter drill, pray tell? surely I don't have to shoot folks?? I mean.. really!!! My route no longer takes me thru Sydney/ Dallas/ Montreal, but thru Vancouver/Montreal, and sometimes Sydney /Dubai/Montreal. )

I get those warnings in my emails, because I am signed up for Smart Traveller alerts for the US.

Yesterday I got an email saying that my US ESTA (visa waiver) was expiring soon, that I needed to renew it. I thought "fat chance I'll be doing that".

It's funny to see Donald's seething anger against the Canadian prime minister transform into lashing out at all Canadians. His anger is completely irrational - I hope that much is obvious to even his greatest supporters. It's his job to be professional with everyone regardless of his personal feelings, but he is unable to do this simplest of tasks.

Donald has been angry at Prime Minister Trudeau since the G7 meeting in 2018, where Trudeau explained that the Canadian dairy industry has supply management, and no thank you to dumping surplus USA dairy in Canada ... try elsewhere. That's all it took for Donald to spend the next seven years obsessed with insulting the Canadian prime minister. It would be sad if it weren't so funny.

Snow birds should find other warm weather locations. Cuba is free of people from the USA - that might be a nice option.

Who??

There is no more unnecessary suffering than to contract MEASLES for the sake of ideology..

Not a bad idea. Though I don't think you need a visa for anywhere you have not ticketed as a stopover. You just won't be allowed out of the airport if you don't have a visa for that country. You have to stay "in transit".

We even went to Canada via South Korea one time (cheap fare, horrible long flight) and were allowed to stay overnight in a South Korean hotel that was not on airport grounds, without any visas. Due to a connecting flight change in South Korea.

In regards to USA dairy I've seen it in superstore but I've never seen anyone buy it or use it why would we .

Two people have now died in the growing measles outbreak in West Texas and New Mexico.

New Mexico health officials on Thursday confirmed the death of an unvaccinated adult who tested positive for measles. The first death was a school-age child in Gaines County, Texas, last week.

News of a second death comes as infectious disease doctors worry that the federal government's messaging about the outbreak is putting more emphasis on treatments like vitamin A than on vaccination, even as misinformation about some of these treatments is spreading online.

Canadian milk is safer and healthier. That is a really good reason to keep USA milk out of Canada. Even if the USA claims their milk is free of hormones, there's no trust anymore.

"100% Canadian milk comes from rbST-free Canadian cows because the use, sale, and import of artificial growth hormones is prohibited in Canada."

"Milk in the United States, unless marked otherwise, is treated with either rBST or rBGH, which are artificial hormones that stimulate milk production. The FDA says there is no difference in the milk produced by cows treated with the hormone, but countries like Canada and those in the European Union ban it."

It used to be 270% for dumping surplus dairy in Canada. The current tariff is 7.5% on dairy from the USA. If the USA exceeds the allowed quota, that tariff jumps to 250-270%. That's a good reason for the USA to keep dairy exports to Canada within the allowed quota. I posted the link upthread.

Can the USA dump their surplus milk in Mexico, or is that already happening?

A little humour from Manitoba's premier

Look at this! The USA dumps dairy products in Mexico, and Donald thinks he can do the same in Canada. What a weirdo. Is he one of those strange people who calls Canadians "snow mexicans"? Does he think that Canadians should tolerate dirty hormone milk because it's good enough for the USA and Mexico?

"Mexico Has Become America’s Most Reliable Dairy Customer
U.S. dairy exports to Mexico totaled 1.22 billion lbs. on a milk solids basis in 2022 and climbed to 1.38 billion lbs. in 2023."

I don't really understand about products being dumped in other countries. I assumed something would only be imported if someone (a distributor, presumably) orders it. But dumping sounds more like it's being forced on the receiver?

How did this happen? Didn't the USA boost border security to prevent people sneaking across the border into Canada? Canada needs to put more tariffs on the USA so they take their responsibility seriously.

"A family of four, including two children aged one and two, was rescued by the RCMP overnight Thursday after crossing the American border into Canada and becoming lost in the woods in Havelock, Que.

RCMP Cpl. Martina Pillarova said the four were suffering from severe hypothermia when they were found. "They were not able to move anymore."

The parents were found barefoot, having lost their boots in some sort of body of water, according to Pillarova, and the children were not dressed for winter weather. "The children were dressed only in shoes and sneakers, no hats, no gloves. So they were in a bad, bad condition," she said.

Canada does not need USA dairy products. Canada has supply management, which means that the supply meets the demand. There is neither surplus, nor shortage. The EU has the same practice.

The USA over-produces dairy products. There is no supply management of dairy in the USA. The USA gives cows hormones to increase milk production.

Donald wants to sell that surplus dairy in Canada at a discount rate, a rate that undercuts the price set in Canada by dairy producers. That would put the Canadian dairy industry out of business, and make Canada dependent on the USA for dairy products.

Canada does not want to be reliant on the USA for dairy. As a gesture of good will, Canada does allow a small quota of USA dairy into Canada with a tariff of 7.5%.

If the USA exceeds that quota, the tariff jumps to 250-270%. This tariff symbolizes a deterrent. It is to prevent the USA from dumping unwanted and unneeded dairy products in Canada.

Yes, Donald wants to force USA dairy products on Canada, and Canada does not want it.
