I read that Donald set up a task force to find out why the price of eggs has skyrocketed. He blamed Biden when he addressed congress. I guess Donald is unaware of the bird flu problem in the USA.

I think that Americans fall into one of three camps right now.
1) Angry with Canada (and Mexico, and...): believe Trump and think the US is literally subsidizing Canada (a clear lie).
2) Oblivious: have no idea that there is a trade war going on and remain oblivious to anything involving other countries.
3) Scared out of their wits: those that voted against Trump and are petrified right now and they definitely hate what is happening to their own country and hate what the US government is doing to other countries.

I am in a fourth camp:

- I dont like Trump's taunts about a 51st state or call a Canadian national leader a "governor".

- But, I dont like Canadian lumber subsidies that have been going on since 1984 and have been opposed, by: Trump, Biden and Clinton. I support increased tariffs on..... Canadian lumber.

As a historical side note, the one time US and Canadian forces clashed wsaaay back in 1812 (US arguably lost that war), Canada came up on top.

Historical trivia aside, unfair Canadian lumber subsidies in the US market need to peacefully come to an end- period.

I just really hate this .I have some great American friends that are having a hard time with this. We know most Americans aren't at fault for what your president does and don't agree with it. But it's starting to effect sports like the NHL. You have sports announcers like pat macafee that have said some things in respect of the booing of the anthems. After all of this drama is over and done with what will our relationship be like .I can't see it going back to how our country's were, the trust is going to be gone and there's going to be hurt feelings all over sounds like a damn divorce jmoo

Hopefully, we’ll have a different administration or this one will die.

I'm also happy that Prime Minister Carney has great contacts in the UK and in Europe. A good reputation and an understanding of what happened in Brexit and how the EU really functions.

This kind of experience and those connections are needed to get around Trump and let him realize his actions have significant consequences with people who understand national economies and trade.

The chances of any negotiation with the USA in a peaceful manner are completely shot to hell, may take generations to repair... also, what would be the point of Canadians signing an agreement, a treaty with the USA, if any morning, as has happened, Mr T wakes up with a feverish liver and shoots the agreement down ? .. What a waste of everyone's time. Signing a contract has no meaning in business deals with the USA now. No meaning whatsoever.

NO ONE is going to take any trade agreement with the USA seriously for decades... once a nation reneges, and destroys unilaterally a trade agreement, it's no longer a trustworthy recipient of any agreement about anything whatsoever. This is why, in case there is any doubt, why there will be a long time before what ever the USA says it wants, to whomsoever will have any bearing on reality at all. No one , no one comes back from a broken agreement.

I don't know much about the softwood lumber dispute except that Canadian softwood lumber primarily comes from federal land. There's no mark-up for personal profit that is seen in privately owned clear cutting. There's also a Canadian requirement to re-forest areas that are cleared.

There is a 14% tariff on Canadians softwood lumber. Donald is adding 25% to that, so lumber will cost 40% more for the USA buyer than it would without tariffs. One might argue that Canadians softwood lumber is too inexpensive for the USA market, in which case USA buyers should support their own forestry industry. Canada has other trade partners for softwood lumber.

Here's the problem:

"Dan Dunmoyer, president of the California Building Industry Association, said Wednesday that “there aren’t really alternatives” to Canadian lumber used for homebuilding in the state because about 80 per cent of Californian land is owned by the federal or state governments and can’t be logged.

Dunmoyer also said California lacks mills, environmental policies and supply chains that would allow a quick switch to local lumber production, and making those changes would likely take years.

“We are very dependent on Canadian lumber,” he said. “We like Canadian lumber. It’s super high-quality, properly harvested for the environment. It’s really quality material."

California builders say few alternatives to Canadian timber, despite tariff threat

California homebuilders say they have few options but to keep buying Canadian lumber, even if it's hit with 25 per cent tariffs, as they rebuild thousands of homes destroyed by devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

This is the level of problem-solving that fearless leader and the Secretary of Agriculture are work at regarding the price of eggs and shortages. Never mind the very significant issue of Avian Influenza being able to infect wild and domesticated birds, cattle, cats, and humans.

I'm ex pat and this is like a cheap grade C movie seen from afar. All of our financial, medical, personal data accessed, copied by this creep who paid zero taxes on billions of income. Then "eliminating fraud" by firing for example everyone whose surname starts with S. Firing crucial nuclear workers. Firing air traffic controllers. Cutting 80,000 from the VA, 25% of which are vets, many disabled. Firing cancer researchers and eliminating the whole education department. How can they be so stupid to not see what will happen when 10's of 1000's of people are suddenly out of work?

Yes, there will be a federal election in the near future. Trudeau resigned, he's been replaced, but his replacement is not who Canadians voted for, so the scheduled October 2025 election will be moved forward.

The debate will between Mark Carney and Pierre Poilievre.

Carney isn't a member of parliament so we need an election. Had Freeland won the leadership vote, then the election could have waited since she is a member of parliament.
