I honestly don't believe there will be an acquittal here, nor should there be one IMO. I fully expect a guilty verdict.

These vigilantes chased the unarmed jogger Ahmaud down, fenced him in and then brandished a weapon at him. 3 armed white men confronting a lone black man is despicable, uncalled for stereotyping resulting in death, and I hope they find all 3 guilty on the top charges.

Ahmaud Aubery should be alive to run another day.

Curious how these guys are charged with five counts of murder apiece?

I would hope that the prosecutor and the judge in his instructions to the jurors would make it abundantly clear that their role is to decide the guilt or innocence of the defendants. Their role is not to consider why AA kept returning to the construction site. Nefarious or innocent, it doesn’t matter. AA is not on trial. They don’t need to know his reason in order to assess the actions of the defendants. The defendants made an assumption about AA and took the law into their own hands without legal justification. They chased him, cornered him to “question him,” threatened AA with a gun and he defended himself with his bare hands. If the jury insists on picking apart why AA visited the construction site several times, they are focused on the wrong issue and shame on them!
JMO

Like it or not, the defendant attorneys are going to make Mr. Arbery's visits to the construction site the focus of their case. Instructions notwithstanding, the jurors are going to wonder why he was there after the constant focus by these attorneys. We can only hope they have enough intelligence to understand the true case, that Mr. Arbery did nothing wrong by visiting the construction site: that there is no evidence of any criminal behavior and that these 3 defendants made lots of assumptions that caused them to chase, stalk and ultimately murder Mr. Arbery.

Will be thinking of AA's mother, Wanda Cooper today. Whatever the outcome, this trial wouldn't be taking place had she not known her son Ahmaud Abery well, loved him dearly, and had the courage to take on a solid wall of well placed & powerful bubbas.

Real, genuine courage, as the Glen County police & DA Barnhill had the means & motivation to make her life & those of other family members "difficult."

Thanks be to the community and the 100's of "black pastors" who rose up to ensure this brave woman didn't fight for her son alone.

Agreed. IMO, The defense attorneys must make the victim look less than a casual jogging just out for a jog. They must provide some rationale (in their minds) as to why 3 guys would stalk and kill a jogger? IMO

IANAL... if found guilty of any of charges 6, 7, 8 or 9, then felony murder charges, 2, 3, 4, or 5 apply (the lesser charges are essentially pre-reqs). If found guilty of any of charges 2, 3, 4, or 5, then they are subject to malice murder charge. That's the cherry on top in Georgia homicide law.

Awwh. The State team color coordinated their closing wardrobes.

Before closing, Kevin Gough again requests to sever William Bryan's case from the McMichael's. The state is objecting and will go through reasons why. Judge says this filing is not timely since the evidence has already been presented

Judge denies Kevin Gough's motion to sever his client's case.

IMO if Roddie was just a nosy neighbor why didn’t he call 911. If he was so innocent and didn’t know what was going on why didn’t he role his window down a bit ask AA if he needed help . <modsnip> . He’s guilty

Bringing in the jury so that the state can begin it's closing argument.

  • #179
Expecting the State to ram home the import of the judge's ruling that a citizen's arrest of a purported "fleeing felon" can only occur immediately after the alleged felony -- not days later.

I really like how she breaks everything down on a level that non-lawyers will understand. It's very conversational.
