Being in a neighborhood watch does NOT give you a license to kill─neither does muscle memory.

Let's count how many times Sheffield says CRIME in this closing. Wish I wasn't at work, would make a great drinking game.

Lurking, sneaking, emotional, fearful, the steps these poor neighbors took to protect each other. This poor innocent neighborhood under siege.

Gag me.

Very scared, canvas, call police, notify each other, neighborhood watch. (still waiting to see how Sheffield is going to work in all that innocent arming selves, pickup truck game of round up that colored boy)

You saw evidence of TM's muscle memory. (WHAT? I LITERALLY CAN'T with this)

So because there have been instances of crime within the community within the last 10 years, means you get to shoot and kill someone?

Only if you are super duper qualified to suspicion right because you were a CG mechanic or a failed LEO.

I don't believe that rubbish about kids being frightened to play outside because cars had been broken into years before and what is anyone doing leaving a gun in an unlocked car?

We have six hours of this kind of attack on the truth & sensibilities to endure. You may need to pace yourself, tlcya. ;)
I won't make it. I am stepping out to try to collect myself. This is literally sickening. I haven't felt so angry in a trial moment since Jose Biaz opened with George Anthony committing SA against Caylee Anthony's birth giver.

I remember. And hear you.

Okay, hold up. Sheffield is nuts. As a woman, if I'm out walking at night and a car shines its lights on me and tries to "talk to me" i'm not responding, I'm fleeing!

Same here- time for lunch- I am stepping away from this drivel

Exactly...

Yes, the black man who dared trespass into HIS neighbor scared Travis. Which *really* pissed him off. The State is right about revenge.

Pool: Jurors paying close attention, taking notes as Sheffield described suspicious activity in neighborhood.

  • #232
English never told the neighborhood the stolen items were taken off another property elsewhere. So we can all go home folks. It's all his fault. Nothing to see here.

Outside jury's presence, ADA Dunikoski objects to slides never seen before that Jason Sheffield plans to use. Sheffield tells the judge of course he can blow up his handwritten notes taken during Travis McMichael’s testimony.

No, Wanda Cooper-Jones says quietly about Sheffield's slides. She wonders why he didn't type it out. “It’s inappropriate,” Attorney Lee Merritt chimes in to her. GBI Agent Richard Dial sits on the back row with Merritt and Cooper-Jones.

Jason Sheffield begins closing: "Duty and responsibility and following the law will always be intertwined with heartache and tragedy. This case is about three things: watching, waiting, and believing."

Sheffield.jpg

JS: Travis McMichael spent almost a decade of his life learning about duty and responsibility, how to make decisions, as a petty and boarding officer in the Coast Guard in treacherous waters. He trained relentlessly.

JS: He talked to you about how to calm or de-escalate situations, control techniques of persons he investigated, & about weapons and the use of deadly force. Travis spent a long time going through this on testimony--I was writing feverishly to capture them

JS: Witnesses talked to you about what they experienced in this once-idyllic neighborhood, and how that began to lessen. Travis noticed how things started to change. Police cars patrolling at night. This neighborhood was covered in suspicious persons & extra watches

JS: It was on FB. A page so neighbors could help each other, and they talked about crime committed to them, to their neighbors. Some was reported but not all. They said, Why bother? The crime is over and people are gone. But it was unsettling.

Sheffield2.jpg

JS: Travis explained to you he heard about a neighbor's purse stolen. He got his dad and went under bridge to where homeless person lived under bridge. He followed his training. Steps between man & machete. "Hey bud." He's looking around for evidence.

JS: Then they go home and call 911 to tell them about man under bridge. The white man was gone by the time police got there. But that idea of man living there never went away. That comes back in 2019.

But real problem Satilla Shores was trying to figure ouot was 220 Satilla Drive. A unique type of crime going on in it--different from what they'd been experiencing. There's a repeat offender coming at a time when he has no lawful reason for being there.

JS: On Oct. 25 Larry English calls the police & we learn a man is "plundering around," says he looks drunk or on drugs. Says I have a lot of valuables--tools, equipment. Never seen this gentleman before & it doesn't look good. Police come. No one found.

JS: What you need to understand about burglary is it includes any structure intended for occupancy for residential use. The State keeps saying "unoccupied unsecured construction site" which doesn't begin to tell the story of what this is.
Shef.jpg

JS: On 11/17/2019, 2 people are seen on video--white couple. English's report significance is not that these 2 stole something, we had something stolen about a week & a half ago. The next night, Mr. #AhmaudArbery returns, pitch black. Now English has cams inside.

JS: English sees #AhmaudArbery looking in boat. The same boat? No. He reports a situation with same guy a week and a half ago. He was on about 3 people's cameras. And on 12.1.2019 English calls again about somebody living under bridge. Idea still floating out there.

JS: On 2 occasions we have video of #AhmaudArbery in the residence. Once on dock 2nd inside house looking into the boat. Video ends. Travis McMichael has his own horrifying experience with a man he's about to learn has just been involved w/all this Larry English stuff

JS: He sees a man duck into the shadows, thru the trees, in front of this house. Travis backs up, splashes his headlights on it. Man steps behind PortaPotty, lifts up shirt, acts as if he's reaching in pocket and that totally freaks out Travis despite his training.

JS: Travis reversed car, goes home to tell his dad. Dad decides to go check it out. Diego Perez has been called and he goes. They take firearms. Travis tells you he said, Dad, whoa! This guy could be armed. But Dad's already walking down street.

JS: Travis goes back, puts headlights on the house, watching, waiting, believing this man could be dangerous, that his dad could be in danger, that something awful could happen so he posts up and waits on the police he himself called.

Shef2.jpg

JS: Travis, why didn't you go in the house? I'm not going in there, when this guy did this? That was enough for me. I'm staying out here. That's a reasonable thing to do.

Shef3.jpg

JS: Travis tells police, We've had a string of burglaries, this guy startles me. 911 asks, You all right hon? Travis: Yes he startled me. That's real--a guy going into a house after being seen at night w/headlights & reaching...

I don't know if the jurors view Sheffield like I do, but I think he is so arrogant it's hard to listen to him. I would have preferred Rubin to give the closing.

I know this is a closing "argument" but his tone in front of the jury just doesn't sit well with me. He's talking AT them, versus what LD did and had a conversation.

TM's mom and FB posts make it a probability that AA was there to rob, steal, commit felonies. It's okay guys, we can all go home now. Totally justified.

Being reduced to yelling LIES! LYING LIAR!!!

  • #237
This guy AA is being really aggressive against that poor little truck.

This is so so so infuriating. I can't imagine being AA's mother having to listen to this insulting word vomit.

JS: Travis tells police, We've had a string of burglaries, this guy startles me. 911 asks, You all right hon? Travis: Yes he startled me. That's real--a guy going into a house after being seen at night w/headlights & reaching...

JS: ...& then turning around and going into house that's not his? Where's the logic in that? He's just walking around the house very calmly and Travis feels that's so bold and brazen he's frightened about this guy

JS: The police go into house with guns drawn b/c they might need to protect themselves. Are they committing aggravated assault or false imprisonment when they do this? No. They're searching for whoever's in there who might be armed.

Shef4.jpg

JS: Travis learns more talking to cops. Rash says, "We haven't actually seen him take it." That's 'cause there's no camera on it. But if 1 of u left your bag in here, we all walked out, & you saw me walk in & never leave...is it reasonable to believe I took your bag? Of course

JS: You cannot act on unsupported statements of others. "Travis's mom," the State says. Are you kidding? After all he's seen and conversations? He's just going off what his mommy told him?

I can't see the screen but Jason Sheffield said, "This is what the State wants u to do something about. What they're trying to inject in this case despite knowing Travis called police on a white man under the bridge, called police about a white carjacker."

JS: They want you to reduce this down to this statement which is not true. Sheffield says Travis had reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion. Travis believes he's committed burglary.

I don't believe that rubbish about kids being frightened to play outside because cars had been broken into years before and what is anyone doing leaving a gun in an unlocked car?

Ugh that lady was terrible. She testified that she saw two men on her camera, at night, peeking into her home with flashlights, and how scary it was. Only in cross we find out that she had failed to mention that they were actually police officers.

I don’t believe for a second that her kids were SO scared that they didn’t even want to go out to play, and didn’t even want to come out to the car at night to get the groceries. They can’t be very old so unless she’s feeding them some bs to scare them, I can’t imagine children being so concerned about property crimes. It’s not like there were people shouting, shots ringing and street brawls on a weekly basis.

I figured this was his argument. Burglary, where you only have intent. And he keeps being in AA's head, saying AA ought to know the police was called by Albenze. It's not fair how they go up in AA's head.
