Was anything mentioned about when BA went to the vets, farmer's market and store that there was someone at the house watching over Gene?
IMO:
I can't see leaving a person with Alzheimers and/or advanced Alzheimers alone.
Good point. He may have been in better shape than we thought.

no, but muscle aches are a major symptom of hantavirus

They havent asked (not relevant) HIPPA Laws wont really allow for it
That's interesting, I think the officer said that too. I thought maybe they would find a receipt in the house. But it's possible she didn't get one. If she got prescribed medicine, it usually comes with the prescription info and would have the date. They just gave all the other info about their health so not sure re HIPAA.

What I find puzzling is that BA's loving mission for years was to protect GH from contacting Covid or any contagious disease yet if she had warnings she was sick and getting worse why didn't she call a doctor not only for herself but to keep monitoring Gene?
IMO: This is an end of life tragedy especially for Gene that very well may have been avoided.

Betsy didn't go to the Farmer's Market. She went to a local grocery chain called Sprouts. Then CVS, and a local petfood store. That's what I heard.
We have Sprouts stores here, too, and the full name is “Sprouts Farmers Market”, so that may be where the confusion comes from.

I wonder if he found her on the floor, then maybe it was he who opened the medicine bottle and scattered the contents.
I'd like to think that if he didn't notice the dog in the crate whining to get out
he didn't notice betsy on the floor
i assume he was only living in a small space near the kitchen (and mudroom)

No nothing was mentioned. The purpose of the update was merely to reveal causes of their deaths. I wouldn’t have expected any questioning, critiquing or alleging blame for the couples lifestyle as it didn’t factor into the death investigation.

Because I first heard of hantavirus while I was Nevada, I did a google search. I always think of New Mexico when I hear about it, but now I’m a little bit freaked out that Colorado has had just as many cases as NM ! I’ve lived here since 1998

Even if he was for whatever reason he didn't have/use a cell phone or email.
This was the perfect storm that arrived.
So damn sad.

A note on Santa Fe and mice. Everyone has them. They are everywhere. We've been dealing with a rodent exclusion/trapping company for almost a year, as they've tried to find out how they're entering our house. In our neighborhood, they are in car engines, sheds, outbuildings, and homes. Money helps, but everyone has them. -- But this is the first time I've ever heard about hantavirus! I'm having dinner with a NM wildlife biologist tonight, so I can't wait to ask him about this.
Really, try field mint. I live in a place with many adobe houses and enclosures. I never could get rid of them til I started the mint placed in all the doors and gates. Speaking of common house mouse. Field mouse.

Good points.
I was thinking along the lines of a possible human contact the couple had on the 11th in their home.

Thanks. That makes more sense. I've never lived in Santa Fe but I used to go frequently when my bf was living there (taking care of his elderly parents). I'd be surprised if the farmers market was open in February. Is this DeVargas? Betsy's shop was there.

The Sheriff said she went to the “Sprouts Farmers Market” word for word in the presser.

I didn't realize it was more like a super market until another posted it up thread. I was thinking outdoor market type.

sometimes they cant stay at home, if they are a risk to themselves or others, My dad would take off, and get lost. One time the RCMP found him about 3 hours a way and he had run out of gas, he got lost on a new ring road took the wrong exit and just kept driving. its not safe for them sometimes to be at home. when you have a caregiver at home, who does a lot for you, you may not see how bad it is. Remove that caregiver , or their routine, and you see it loud and clear.

They did have expansive property... He could have gotten lost . Having no outside care or welfare or maintenance/cleaning help just does seem hard to understand. Betsy just did not have to do all this. I do wonder why?
And such minimal communication with his children.
I dunno. Just makes me sadder.

For BA to go to the Farmers Market, the Drug Store and a Pet Food Store on the 11th before going home on the evening of the 11th, doesn't really fit for someone that must have been feeling sickened from the Hantavirus and passing likely within the next 12 hours.

She arrived at the subdivision gate at 5:15 PM, I would think she must have been feeling terrible at this time. I can see her going to the Drug Store to get medicine to help with the symptoms of the virus and maybe getting food for her beloved dogs if they were out of food and known it may be some time before she would feel well enough to go out again, but the Farmers Market????? A Farmers Market just doesn't seem to be a likely place for someone to go in the condition she must have been in if she was to pass so soon afterwards.

JMO
Sometimes even if you don’t feel well and need to get things done, you push yourself through.

I was surprised that the ME mentioned damage from highblood pressure several times. Bp is pretty easy to moderate, imo. Just surprised that it would be an ongoing problem.

Deer mice are the main concern of hantavirus. But yes, they’re everywhere, in Canada where I live as well.

Deer mice and white-footed deer mice are the animals most often responsible for infecting people with hantavirus. Both species can be easily differentiated from so-called house mice because they have white fur on their bellies and large eyes.

He was driving just 2 years ago, in that pic posted earlier today.
