very troublesome.....that phone call could sound ominous
An article earlier in today's thread said Malaysian officials denied there was any phone call.

latest update, statement from families
But would auto-pilot move like that from one pre-set to another (if they were even pre-set at all)?
If someone had set it on autopilot South towards the Indian Ocean right at the turn, why woudn't it just go on that route?

"Investigators are taking the new discovery seriously because when registering a pay-as-you-go SIM card in Malaysia, a passport number or identity must be given.
The fact that the particular number had been bought very recently under a womans name using a false identity has raised serious suspicions among investigators.
The revelation raises questions of possible ties between Captain Zaharie, 53, and terror groups who routinely use untraceable SIM cards"
Or he was being set-up because of his political affiliations. I really have to wonder what the likelihood is of Zaharie being involved with a terror group. Of course, the possibility exists that someone called him because they do not want the prevailing government to know who they are given their penchance for arresting people on false charges.
Who didn't know this was coming? There is still no definitive answer and the Indian Ocean crash landing scenario was on tap when Malaysia kept repeating the need to search south. I wondered at the time why they were so persistent without proof.
It is plausible the airplane went down on autopilot (fits with my original theory of hypoxia event), but it is troubling there is not one shred of physical evidence. IF they are wrong and this aircraft did land somewhere...the true danger is they won't be looking for this plane anymore.

I don't know where I read or heard this on the news, but I thought much earlier it was stated that would not have been a catastrophic preset. Anyone else? Besides, I think you are getting at the same thing I am going to say. Does setting that complex path with many turns make sense?
Have they released the actual statement? All I saw were the tweets talking about it.
18.28 The families gathered in Beijing have delivered a scathing denunciation of Malaysia Airlines and the Malaysian government, branding them "the real executioners" of the MH370 passengers:
"At 10pm on March 25, the Malaysian prime minister sent a statement to the families of MH370 passengers without any direct evidence that MH370 crashed in the south Indian ocean and no people survived.
"From March 8 when they announced that MH370 lost contact to today, 18 days have passed during which the Malaysian government and military constantly tried to delay, deceive the passengers' families and cheat the whole world.
"This shameless behaviour not only fooled and hurt the families of the 154 passengers but also misguided and delayed rescue actions, wasting a large quantity of human resources and materials and lost valuable time for the rescue effort.
"If the 154 passengers did lose their lives, Malaysia Airlines, the Malaysian government and military are the real executioners who killed them. We the families of those on board submit our strongest protest against them.
"We will take every possible means to pursue the unforgivable crimes and responsibility of all three."

Unsure how legit this is:

However political activists in Malaysia also sometimes use SIM cards bought with fake identities if they fear that their phone calls may be bugged, the newspaper claimed. Captain Zaharie is an active member of Anwar Ibrahim's Parti Keadilan Rakyat (People's Justice Party).
