AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

A lot of people with security systems only arm them when they are away from home. My alarm system has an Away mode and a Stay mode. When in Stay mode, the motion sensors in the house are disabled, but the window and door sensors are enabled. When in Away mode, all sensors are enabled.

As for entry, let's look at possibilities:
1. Entered through a garage door. (Someone posted upthread that older garage doors are easy to defeat.)
2. Entered through an unlocked door.
3. Entered through a door by using a key.
4. Entered through a door by picking a lock.
5. Entered through a window.

For #3. I want to know who had keys to Nancy's house. Is there a possibility that someone copied a key that one of her family members or household staff kept? Also, did she hide a key outside somewhere in case she locked herself out?
Yes and you can even have the "Away" alarm on when you're home for different rooms. For example, maybe the main part of the house is alarmed but the bedroom/bathroom isn't. Just as an example. I know many people have it for the first floor but not upstairs when they go to bed upstairs.
It just seems like for entry there are unlimited possibilities... why the front door?

Concerning the tyre tracks found on the drive - could Nancy have used a “granny trolley” after she’d come home from the supermarket?

I’m also thinking about how the perp enticed Nancy to open the door.

Was Nancy a sleepwalker? <modsnip>

I know Tucson is a bigger city than Moscow, ID -- but thinking about the Kohberger crime and looking at the Tucson map, it's clear that once the kidnappers presumably drove out of NG's foothills neighborhood, at some point they will have gotten onto a major road (unless they drove her up into the mountains, of course).

And major roads (especially with businesses) have cameras.

Can any Tucson locals describe how empty or busy those main streets would be at, say, 3 or 3:30am? Quiet enough for individual cars to stand out?

In the Idaho crime they were able to see the same car at various points around town as he drove to and from the crime in the wee hours. Might things be quiet enough that the same could be done/hopefully is being done in Tucson?

ETA: I don't mean the freeways. I mean the routes into/out of her neighborhood (assuming there are some traffic cams on those roads?)

Also, where is the footage of Nancy arriving to her home from earlier in the evening???
No camera in the garage area, or it was possibly overwritten.

I'm going to assume that CP truly was a dead end... I think if he wasn't/actually had information, we would have seen more activity today :/

Just thinking about that door camera (based on something I saw on Twitter).

Removing the camera from the mount doesn’t stop it recording.

You’d have to break it, or remove it from WIFI range to do that.

So there is almost certainly additional video being held back.
My own impression of the video, at least the clip where the perp is walking back with the lantana, was that it was cut off by LE at a specific point as he began to walk back toward the camera.

Methinks there's something significant caught on camera that LE doesn't want out in the public domain.

Have not thought of this! I’ve been trying to put my finger on his general demeanor approaching the entry. No hurry or anxiety. Reluctance seems to fit.

What was his intent at that front door? I didn’t see any sign of forced entry there. He slowly walked up, with his head down, realized there was a camera, and went back and grabbed lantana to block the camera. I am assuming he removed it then. What happened next? Did he walk around and find another way in, or was someone else working on that? It was I think 20 minutes before a camera detected someone inside. Was he trying to get in the front, or was he just waiting at the front for someone to come out that front door?

Does anyone know if it was wired, or battery operated? If battery operated, it would definitely continue recording until the battery was removed.
I know this because I've some lovely video of my inner jacket pocket and kitchen countertop.
It’s battery for sure. You can see it’s not hardwired.

In another development, TMZ reports that the bitcoin account associated with Nancy Guthrie’s expired ransom demand suddenly showed activity earlier on Tuesday local time.

The outlet reports that around $152 worth of bitcoin showed up in the account’s publicly viewable log. It is not known where the money came from, but anyone with a copy of the ransom note would have had the information required to send the money.

I think it's largely possible that LE has other video from other areas, that shows potentially disturbing and sensitive or violent content. They'd never show that to the public. They would have chosen the doorbell camera because his 'face' was closest to it and the sole reason was for ID. JMO

Oh, my. This hasn't crossed my mind, but it could be a possibility. How so very sad!

Then it recorded for as long as the battery held up, and you're right--they have more video. I hope it's better than my inner pocket or countertop.
Do you suppose the image/person that LE said was captured "from a camera" at 2:12 was from the disconnected doorbell camera?

There doesn't appear to be a wire in the closeup images I've seen JMO

<Modsnip: Quoted Post removed>

The mask is off-center. I think that may make the two eyes look a little different. I though they might a asymmetrical but changed my mind. (Image cropped only)

A news anchor on the National News Desk newscast tonight mentioned that there are online speculation concerning cartel involvement in the Nancy Guthrie case.

A former Pima County Sheriff's Department lieutenant said that was a possibility but described it as far-fetched.

I also found this interesting February 2022 press release from the FBI El Paso Field Office concerning kidnapping extortion calls.

The February 2022 press release mentions that when a kidnapping extortion call is made, the ransom money is only accepted by wire transfer, crypto currency, or Peer 2 Peer payment apps.

Give me some grace here fam, but what if the perp is wearing a celebrity mask under the ski mask? In this hypothetical situation, we may only have biometrics. Eyes and such.

My sense is that it's not, and there is another camera. We have heard rumors of two, and I've gotta believe that's accurate.

I half expected them to release video from that camera today, as they are surely doing the same thing they did with the doorbell video recovery.

It may not be as helpful though, or it might give something away that they don't want out there.
