She is using her skills from her job. She is looking at the features in his face under his mask to say what he looks like. I expect someone will recognize him and he will be arrested. Thats my opinion based on my lifetime of being in a family of police officers. MOO.

When LE went to NG's house when she was reported missing, LE immediately knew it was a crime scene and closed off the property for an investigation of a crime. MOO
He called in homicide detectives as well. There’s obviously something in/around the house that the public doesn’t know that made the sheriff do that. I vaguely remember him saying in the first major press conference that those details weren’t going to be discussed out of respect for the family.

did they ever take the blue shirt that was wadded up on the rocks...he could have taken if off when he took the backpack off. Did they ever really take the mat at the door?

Perhaps she is all those things. However, LE did not officially release a sketch of the suspect. They have information about the suspect that this artist does not have. Her sketch will no doubt gain traction and very possibly in the wrong direction. Needed tips might not come in because the suspect could not look like this at all. She got ahead of her skis. IMO
"Out ahead of skis" like a lot of true crime podcasters, reporters, and and youtube sleuths on this case

It also took them a long time to remove the Nest plate for testing. I understand they might not have been aware of what the camera captured, but it doesn’t take a genius to conclude that whoever perpetrated the crime also removed the camera. Footage wasn’t needed for that deduction, and still isn’t.

It’s almost like this was crime scene processing from decades ago. On second thought, that’s an insult to previous generations of investigators.

Some decades-old cases have been solved with FGG because very forward-thinking investigators immediately bagged items that A) had no obvious connection, and B) couldn’t even be tested with them-current tech. But lo and behold, many years later, their proactive police work caught the killer.

Not seeing that winning attention to detail here, and “golden hour” is long past.
I think anyone of us on Websleuths would have done a better job collecting evidence and securing the scene.

I have rationalized the SIL (maybe AG) being involved vs. not. The night before NG is abducted, she has an idyllic night of games and dinner at AG/SIL home. They are presumably the last to see her alive. Still unclear who brought her home. The garage up/down for such a short period of time still bothers me.

We know they are going to be questioned no matter what. It's possible LE believes the suspect has a connection to their neighborhood. Maybe he saw NG often at their home and that unfortunately grabbed his interest. And this is the reason they are searching around AB’s home. The connection is proximity only.

However, I cannot show any serious interest in following this case and not consider SIL (maybe AG) of potentially being involved in some way. I do not think the suspect in the FBI released video is the SIL but that does not mean there is no connection to NG being abducted and IMO murdered.

LE has repeatedly gone back to their home. I have lost count how many times. LE is also going inside the home. That tells me LE has some evidence that is bringing them there…. over and over. IMO

Nanos got started 2 days before the FBI, which is not long at all. But instead of “ working together”, there’s still an ego struggle almost 2 weeks later.

Right but why can't they use the results received from the lab and if they feel a retest is necessary, still go on the info gathered and use the retest as confirmation. Why would the FBI reject the results from a reputable lab in favor of delaying and waiting on a retest? I think it looks like there is blame with both Local LE and the FBI. JMO I am not impressed with either as it stands right now.

Seems to me - and I know nothing- that the camera porch guy may not have been trying to get in the house. Perhaps two bad guys are involved. Both, perhaps, went in back and did whatever they did in the house. In my scenario, porch guy came out to front to meet bad guy 2 and help remove Nancy from the house. Forgot the camera was there and then had to deal with it. Backpack could be full of “stuff” from inside - not full of burglary/kidnap tools. Thoughts?

Interesting clue, local. 6 miles away is pretty far. The 2 backpack man was in s Tucson, 5+ miles away. I would like to see a Tucson map of all these incidents from Jan. I got the impression that Tucson has a lot of crime, mainly on the s side.

Ya, could certainly be him BUT this sort of thing with the doorbell ring cam happens often. It really isn't unsual anywhere.

Looking at how some of this investigation has been conducted ,I would say that from day I the Sheriff was wilfully neglectful in how he failed to collect evidence and seal and guard Nancy's house.
This photo says everything. The door mat has not even been removed for testing .

I wonder if that rug was pulled for evidence (fibers, etc.) or if it just sat there for days.

Cutting the wifi would disconnect the camera too, for another possibility.

JMO
I keep wondering what happened to the doorbell. Did he throw it in the bushes or take it with him? He got it out of range of the wifi apparently (or cut the wifi, as mentioned).

Tucson is a very special city. We’ve stayed many times at a small, old resort in NG’s part of town, which is in the mountains overlooking the city. It is a beautiful area. People are friendly. There is a common love of land and sky. People work together to live responsibly in the desert. It is a spot of blue in red Arizona. These are simplifications but just had to put my 2 cents in. If you don’t know Tucson or the desert you may not be able to understand the love and beauty there.

"I guessed at the parts of face covered with ski mask on this Nancy Guthrie kidnapping suspect," she said in her Facebook post. "I used the surveillance photos shown. I spent 43 years at job trying to help detectives with similar photos."

Possible but why would they need to go around the front rather than just opening the door from inside? Not saying it’s a dealbreaker but odd.

I'm pretty sure it's border patrol because they had the same flight path last night. (Don't know what they will find at the top of a mountain, but who knows? Maybe there are secret hideaways??? 👀)

US Army helicopters are very obviously doing border surveillance in Texas. Their flightpaths are competely parallel to the border.
Plus, daytime would be more effective, if looking for someone, something.

It's a shame that this even has to be questioned, as it was from the beginning a high profile homicide investigation.

They surely would not have gone back and replaced it after testing ,so it must be concluded it just sat there whilst numerous people were able to tread all over it .

if all the biological material is used up by the private lab then there is nothing left to retest, if they had given it to the FBI they knowing all the case details may have used different techniques to try to save some of the material or even held off testing until they were sure that they could try to save some of the material, I think the FBI testing also looks better at trial, chain of custody and protocols etc

I can't remember what user was familiar with military flight operations/training, but on Monday I believe, when we were tracking the medical helicopter (which turned out to be unrelated..) that user were giving info on what certain planes might be doing in the areas around Tucson: Live Flight Tracker - Real-Time Flight Tracker Map | Flightradar24

I'm asking because right now there is a US Army helicopter (GOON93) circling the mountains north of the Catalina Foothills and it was previously circling on some mountains further north of there (it took off from Pinal Airpark, which is public use, not military). It doesn't look like there's much up there other than a small ski resort and they weren't circling that but hiking trails and some canyons (and the furthest right circling is around some old mines up in the mountains).

Could be for a missing hiker or training or anything else, but thought it was interesting that it was military. There's another Army heli that also took off from Pinal but went west and then circled back close to this heli, circling over Tiger AZ, which is another abandoned mine with no roads in.

Last night, 2/12
Dang ok there are now FOUR separate US Army helicopters on the tracker, all took off from Pinal Airpark recently, going in different directions out from Pinal and CIRCLING over mountainous clusters/canyons/bodies of water (the topography of AZ is so crazy to me as an East coaster) and former mines, it appears.

I'm trying to not get too excited about this as it COULD be unrelated but seems very coincidental in terms of what LE should be doing to search. Interesting though it is past dark in Arizona right now, I believe.

EDIT: I lost the fourth, I wonder if it's just out of range/service or it landed.
Prob. not related as mentioned above, but what if . . .
Were they checking for lights that should not be there?

Anyone on here familiar with those mountains? Are there large estates or properties that are either: open in the summer but closed in winter OR have absentee owners? Properties set far back from a road, so no one, particularly an elderly woman with mobility issues, could hike out in winter? Any known locations?

I've long thought NG does not need to be restrained because of her lack of mobility, meaning that her captivity could possibly be more comfortable than that of most people abducted.

She could be placed in a remote location with lots of food, water, and reliable heating, then allowed loose in her "prison."

I had been thinking desert location, but mountain tops in February ahead of a major winter storm make more sense.

The kidnappers would have installed cameras and could communicate with her.

I would think the windows would have been blacked out so no light could be seen at night, but who knows?

Then, she could have been instructed to don a blindfold, be led from the structure to a snowmobile or other transportation and taken to a drop location. Then, when the kidnappers were well away, a msg is sent to TMZ of her location.

Just pondering . . .
