Moo.. I was a street person. Mr Neely is my peer...I know his rage. Mr Penny surprises me..he is cold and efficient...he could of confronted Mr. Neely face on...but that would of been a mess, if Mr Neely can break the bones in a face, that takes strength. Mr Penny read the situation realistically..he let go when Mr Neely quit fighting. That's the way fights go. Moo

It will be interesting to see if that video is allowed to be admitted as evidence at trial because videos can be edited.

What is troubling about his interview is that he is not humbled. He brushes off the death. He is not upset about killing Jordan. Jordan had it coming and Penny was there to save the day.

Exactly. This part of the interview is so disturbing. I’m sure he’s following his attorney’s instructions, but I did not see any real humanity toward Mr Neely when he distances himself by saying:

When asked what he would say to the family of Jordan Neely, whose funeral was Friday, Penny looked somber, carefully choosing his words.

“I’m deeply saddened by the loss of life,” he said. “It’s tragic what happened to him. Hopefully, we can change the system that’s so desperately failed us.”

Meaning what exactly? Are they the judge? Have they cleared him? Will this case not go to court because some people think he is amazing and have given him some money?

I think he expressed himself well, given that he has to choose his words carefully, per his attorney's instructions and the fact that he is facing criminal charges.

I do believe the defense can call any witness they want and then lay the foundation for why they called the witness. They could also call the police officer who arrested JN for assaulting the elderly woman.

No. There were witnesses to the events of this case. Many witnesses. Either they will tell a convincing account of the terror they lived through, or they won't. There's no need for the prejudicial account of past victims of Neely.

Penny carried on with the chokehold even after Neely coughed up blood and mucus and defecated himself. I struggle to see him as a hero as some do in this thread. He attacked a vulnerable person (from behind, without warning, without an attempt to deescalate) in what may prove to be in court an unwarranted attack and killed him.

Neely didn't kill himself.

Neely didn't choke himself to death.

Reading some of the posts in this thread, you'd think Neely did it all himself, and deserved it too, even being questioned why he resisted the chokehold. I guess most of us would just desist and let someone choke us, deprive us of oxygen and not do a thing?

Some posters earlier said that Neely was out of control and shouldn't have been allowed on the subway. Penny seems pretty out of control himself in my opinion. What's worse is that he'd do it again:

It wouldn’t have implied any guilt at all if he had the decency to use Jordan Neely’s name in his comment. But he couldn’t even bring himself to do that in a comment directly addressing Mr Neely’s family.
