NY - UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot in Midtown NYC, 4 Dec 2024 #12 *Arrest*

Or didn't really want to die but was okay with the possibility.

I think he didn't have any long-term vision for his life, a problem many people have. He planned this murder for the "thrill," but didn't plan the aftermath well. He froze with inaction after the murder, because creating a mystery future alone abroad would be even tougher than in his own country, so he decided lay low.
And see if he got away with it.

Magic hat (-:

Seriously, though, the evidence seems there, IMO. But I think they might not get a jury to agree to DP.
I think that there will be many surprises for this case. A jury may be difficult to find.

Yes, his message with the shooting was directed to the entire health care system! Amazing he just looked up health care companies, and Brian Thompson fit his plan.

Re Back issues, mitigation, I think Karen I. ( defense) will try everything she can.
He obviously had a lot of metal in spine, previous surgeries. His back had gotten a lot worse, after a surf slip, about a year or so before the crime, physical activity had slowed down.

He did a No Show on one of his best friends weddings. He was out of touch with many regular contacts, including his Mother. Mom knew he was angry, resentful, mentioned to investigators the shooting seems like something Luigi would do! (paraphrase). Of course, she did not condone shooting, just a mothers insight into her sons state of mind.

I’m not defending his actions due to back pain, absolutely not! Many people are disabled, frustrated sometimes, No excuse! Just saying defense may try this tactic.

Is there a link to prove/confirm that he’s even had back surgery?

Has metal in his back?

Or is an X-ray on social media now proof? It could be anyone’s X-ray. IMO

He certainly does not carry himself as if his back hurts. IMO

Please post a link that there is truth to these claims.

According to defense as reported by ABC News:
To date, there has been no documentation provided in discovery that confirms the Chief of Detectives' statement as to Mrs. Mangione's alleged statement," defense attorney Karen Agnifilo wrote. "If it is true that Mrs. Mangione never made this statement, then it is shocking and unconscionable that the District Attorney's Office and the NYPD have never corrected this highly prejudicial false statement.
+
If Mangione's mother did, in fact, tell San Francisco police that shooting Thompson "might be something she could see him doing," Agnifilo said the district attorney's office should provide proof.

(Sorry, I do not know how to put blockquotes, or if WS has that option. Let me know if this is confusing to read and I will try to fix it. I am quoting the article.)

News outlets last year reported what LEO claimed Luigi Mangione's mother said. You are correct that news sources will refer to each other, but it appears the source of this claim (that the mother said she could see her son killing Brian Thompson) may have come from LEO. Another possibility is that whichever news outlet reported this info first may have made it up.
It's my belief that the news reports got Mrs. M's words twisted. jmo ;)

LM is going down, to what degree is yet to be seen IMO. Between his own written words, video surveillance, evidence recovered it doesn't take a huge leap to figure out he was the well planned murderer of Brian Thompson. It was all high drama and games until he got caught and reality has now bit him squarely on the backside. Now what????

He doesn't like being in a cage, he misses his autonomy, yet he adores the 'fandom' he's received. I think the cold reality of a substantial time being locked up in prison/mental health institution has put a cramp in handsome LM's style. ;)

Maybe, but LE is not required to roll body cam footage every second of a subject encounter:

While police body cameras are a tool for transparency, officers are not always required to keep them recording. The activation and deactivation of these devices are governed by specific policies. These rules dictate the circumstances under which an officer is permitted, or even required, to turn off their camera, balancing public accountability with other considerations.

Police Tactical and Strategic Considerations

Why Are Cops Allowed to Turn Off Body Cameras?

it may not be required but its perfectly reasonable to ask why they did i mean what happened in those 11 minutes why did they feel the need to turn there body cams off

I am sure LE will be asked about every moment of the body cam footage, which I agree is perfectly reasonable too. The first responding officers in PA had no idea this was truly going to be the real LM, the odds of him being found sitting in a McDonalds eating a hash brown seem pretty low on the average action of a suspect of a nationwide manhunt for 5 days.

LE could have been discussing their next actions once they determined it was LM, which is legal outside the presence of the suspect. Apprehended in PA, committed the murder in NY, I'm sure local LE had major questions on how to proceed.
