NY - UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot in Midtown. #4

I originally thought we might have one here. A serial killer who sees himself as some sort of “Dexter” vigilante justice type (I can hear the groans from here!)…

But I continue to think there is a group behind this, someone from overseas, and we may see other similar types of attacks on the wealthy/powerful.
I too think there is a group behind this, oscillating between an ideological group vs. a money mafia. And if ideological, I think the group would be in the US, and this guy is their hitman. But let’s see what comes out.

Many other theories in this thread also make sense.

“All of a sudden, I am fired up again,” said Tim Anderson, describing how his wife, Mary, had to deal with UnitedHealthcare coverage denials before she died from Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in 2022.

Anderson said they couldn’t get coverage for machines to help his wife breathe or talk — toward the end, she communicated by blinking when he showed her pictures. The family had to rely on donations from a local ALS group, he said.

“The business model for insurance is don’t pay,” said Anderson, 67, of Centerville, Ohio.

Correct me if I’m wrong … but with employer medical plans, the employer can also make determinations about what is covered, so it’s not just the insurer refuses to pay, your employer also is part of the “decision” for some treatment / care /drugs.

This could be bad for NYC tourism as well. I have been there a few weeks before Christmas and the sidewalks and stores are packed with tourists. I really wouldn’t want to be there now, walking around, knowing a killer is on the loose.
I don't think so. I have zero desire to visit NYC myself but if I had, I would not be discouraged because of what was clearly a targeted hit, especially after watching the video where he clearly paid no attention at all to the lady quickly running away from the scene. Someone with no clear target or simply out there to shoot people in general would have not left her escape unharmed.

From NY Times (A Visual Timeline of the UnitedHealthcare C.E.O. Shooting) :
About 7:00 a.m. The suspect was still on 86th Street, but no longer on the bicycle.

7:04 a.m. He got into a cab at 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, heading north.

7:30 a.m. He arrived at a bus station near 178th Street and Broadway that is used by interstate buses, where video surveillance showed him going in but not coming out.

So, he was on the bike until 86th and Columbus, walked one block over and got the cab to go north to the terminal. The bike would not be in the park, unless he walked/rode a block east and threw it in the park. It has to be somewhere. It is a nice neighborhood there and lots of personal security cameras.

Anyone heard about ‘monopoly money’ in the backpack? I just got an alert from this article from FOX that mentioned it. I checked it against NBC and they did in fact report it.

Fox - “NBC News also reported Saturday that Monopoly money was found in the backpack.”

NBC - “Some Monopoly money was also found in the backpack, two sources told NBC News.

Is he trolling??
Sorry @MassGuy I think I was writing this while you posted from MSNBC :)

This makes me think the trip to Starbucks and leaving his trash behind and found behind was all showing off, taunting investigators, a flex.
I dunno. The words on the rounds and the Monopoly money seems like a flex. Going to Starbucks and leaving trash behind seems like a clown move. It makes him look incompetent.

I thought this was a joke at first. Nope, it's real. Wow.

<snipped & BBM>
A backpack resembling the one worn by the suspect has been recovered near a playground in Central Park, according to media reports. MSNBC said on Saturday that police examining the bag and its contents found a jacket and Monopoly money, but no firearm.
Seriously ???
I thought it was satire, a joke.

If true, this guy is really playing and enjoying watching all this from somewhere.

Ok this is hysterical.

In my experience, insurance companies try their best to weasel out of paying things that are clearly covered.

We once had a bike we no longer wanted so we left it unlocked on the sidewalk and let human nature take it's course.

Someone scored a bike on W86th Street on Wednesday, imo.

If the employer has a “self funded” plan, this is correct. With self funded plans, the employer pays the actual amount of the claims (typically offset by stop loss coverage for extremely large claims).

Been following, but just chiming in.

I was in college not too long ago and we were able to get fake IDs made for whatever state we chose. Mine was from Pennsylvania, when I had never lived there in my life and was going to school in Washington, D.C. at the time. So, definitely possible to get a NJ fake without ever having even stepped foot in the state.

The things we did to be able to go out to spend money at overpriced city bars…
Interesting as some made it sound v difficult with holograms. Btw do you have an alibi for last week!

I was thinking that going to Starbucks and leaving the trash behind might be his way of saying OK, here’s part of my face on the video, here’s my fingerprints and DNA, you still won’t catch me.

This is nuts! Picking my jaw up off the floor.

Do we think he left the e-bike in Central Park & it got stolen which is why it hasn’t been found? Those bikes are soooo heavy, I can’t imagine him chucking it in the water. Any other ideas?
I was wondering about this myself. I've been searching for what happened to the bike but haven't found anything. I would think he would only have to leave it unlocked on the street and someone would grab it.JMO

Does anyone know what happened to his bike? thanks
