Unabomber Manifesto Review by Mangione

What a wealth of information he's left to assist LE, including his incisive review of Ted Kazcynski's manifesto.

Too soon to know much, but IMO this man is clearly not your workaday nutbar. He's a bit evolved, I feel. Different optics. Of course, wherewithal may be all the difference, too.

Hate what he did, hope to understand why he did it. He seems intelligent enough to have realized shortly after killing Brian Johnson that it would not advance the dialog in any way. Terrible that he didn't figure that out before.

I feel like his top-selected quote from Goodreads gives insight into his motivation.

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice, — is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.”
― John Stuart Mill, Principles of Political Economy

Him beiing a student is what I suggested in my earlier post, most likely a grad student with a thesis on corporate greed. His Twitter/X profile pics include one of a neck X-ray of showing serious hardware for neck surgery, perhaps he was denied coverage during or as a result. Wow! So much to unpack here. So glad they got him. Hope I'm allowed to post this photo
If this is his X-ray, then he would probably be very familiar with the health insurance, IMO.
Maybe high co-pays were bankrupting him and making his dreams out of reach?
Or he was denied things that would relieve his pain?

Amen to that. American like so many of us suspected.
I really didn't think he was! But not only was he American, he was on a road to success with an education, poise, and smarts - a young person to be proud of. He seems to have everything going for him. I did NOT expect that in the killer.

He threw it all away. And, I suspect his message will be lost in the flash of that smile and then....attention will go to the next big story.

What an utter waste on so many levels.

not at all surprised that this man was born and bred here. I understand why people were speculating otherwise, particularly if this was some sort of paid hit. But it turns out he was home grown and dissatisfied with the healthcare industry.

I incorrectly guessed it was someone who lost a family member/loved one due to a denied claim or procedure. But it appears right now as if he simply had a problem with the industry as a whole.

Very fancy private day school. His ((formerly Twitter)) account oozes contempt for people less privileged than himself, as well. We may find him not to be the populist hero social media cast him as.
Well if he's so privileged, then why is he worried about what health insurance covers and does not cover?

Certainly explains his expensive items he seemed to like..

I think his father tipped off the police, and Mayor Adams let it slip that they had his name. They just didn't have HIM, until today.

I agree. I think they've known who he was for several days. I wonder if he even had a destination in mind or was just gonna figure that out on the fly. Took him quite a long time to get from NYC to Altoona...where was he?

This was my prediction a couple days ago:

So I think he's mid 20's, Middle eastern or Mediterranean heritage, lives somewhere on the east coast (Atlanta or points north).

Grudge with this specific company. Imagines himself as some sort of movie antihero assassin (silenced weapon, Monopoly money, rounds with words written on them). Into fashion. Meticulous with his appearance. Disciplined. Intelligent.

I don't think his beef was with this particular victim, rather, I think it's with what he symbolized. I say that because if he did have it out for this guy, he'd just hit him in his home state. It would be much easier, and much less risky.

This is an ego thing for him, which is why he chose committing this crime in that place, and in that way. He wanted it to be caught on camera. It's practical as well, as what better way to get his message across?

I think he's graduated college, perhaps currently in some postgrad program. He has access to money, as his clothing, backpack, and the trip itself were quite expensive.
