BREAKING: Person of interest in fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson ID’d as Luigi Mangione, an ex-Ivy League student
Wow! I just took my lunch from work and bam! This thread is flying now.
Based off the FB - this is 100% him - jmo.

Him beiing a student is what I suggested in my earlier post, most likely a grad student with a thesis on corporate greed. His Twitter/X profile pics include one of a neck X-ray of showing serious hardware for neck surgery, perhaps he was denied coverage during or as a result. Wow! So much to unpack here. So glad they got him. Hope I'm allowed to post this photo?

Looks like he had gone AWOL from friends and family for a few months judging by some of the tags, they were worried about him and were trying to get in touch from, at least, July.

Not saying it was the case here, but he's also the age various mental health issues can kick off/up a notch.

Check again. He reviews the Unabomber manifesto prominently on his Goodreads list.
If I was judged on the books I have read I would have no chance, read Mein Kampf, biographies of Hitler, Stalin, multiple books on serial killers, it doesn’t mean I endorse them or want to be like them am just fascinated by history and true crime

Same here. I was being lazy with checking WS rules, but I assumed we couldn't mention the possibility. I wasn't looking for such a thing, but something about a particular user stuck out. I don't recall who, only the 'Joined' date. I haven't done a thorough re-read, but haven't seen that person here in a bit.
If it was the user who claimed to be 15, I believe he was put in time out yesterday.

I'm a 40+ year tech professional and have spent many years mentoring young people in and just out of college. This truly breaks my heart. So much promise, so much tragedy.

Haven’t checked yet. I’m digging into his family. Direct connections to the medical field. Very smart people.
Yes and I sure hope one of them called in and reported their son, brother, cousin, etc was the guy. No way they didn't know it and if he was gone all of thanksgiving week, they had to know. They seem close so where did they think he was?

Wow....this is really sad. NYPD probably received his name as soon as photos of him were posted. How sad for his family and friends and so tragic for the family of the victim. ALL JMO

Yes, I feel profoundly sad it had to come to this.

With all the talk of this guy taking Greyhound, it's odd that none of his fellow passengers or the driver recognized him, but some elderly McDonald's diner did.
TV news all the time ! Home and a top story. Yea boomer!

Valedictorian at Gilman (!) to CS at Penn (!)

… Gilman, probably a top 10 private boys HS in the United States. Extremely elite, major Ivy League feeder, which is what this guy then did, into among Penn’s most difficult majors.

Can’t get over that. The ‘16 valedictorian at Gilman?!
Perhaps some of them laughingly thought he looked a bit like the killer’s photographs but would never have thought he had this in him. Depends how he was in person. He was certainly exceptionally bright.

Valedictorian in an American high school.
Very fancy private day school. His ((formerly Twitter)) account oozes contempt for people less privileged than himself, as well. We may find him not to be the populist hero social media cast him as.

Young, good looking... why throw your life away like that?

Just catching up with the thread..

The man being questioned in Altoona in connection with the killing of Brian Thompson is Luigi Mangione, 26, according to three law enforcement officials.

Mangione, who was detained in a McDonald's this morning, was carrying identification with his name on it, along with fake I.D., one of the officials said. He has not been charged in connection with the shooting.

Well, there's the manifesto that everyone wanted. Per your linked article:

The man was carrying a handwritten manifesto criticizing health care companies, law enforcement officials said.

Looks like him. Cover the curly hair on his head and see (especially some of the Facebook pics). His curly hair is very distinctive. That is why he always hid it under a cap or hoodie. JMO
Same name, same age. Different guy IMO
