I'm just dying to know what's in that backpack. I imagine we'll have an answer by tomorrow afternoon.I also think the NYPD has done a stellar job in only 3 days.

As a resident of the metro area, I hear Adams a lot. Enough to feel that he isn’t a spokesperson for the NYPD. He’s doing his thing, and they’re doing theirs. To be honest, I am relieved.
The comments from Mayor Adams on this case have felt so... I don't know... ho hum? The statements he's issued have made me feel like this criminal has has them a bit pantsed.
"We're homing in on the shooter's identity... "
"We're on the right track. We're going to bring this person to justice... This person was fully masked & we used good old fashioned police work to come up with the picture you have." (I mean, really? Good old fashioned police work...)
"In all my years of law enforcement, I have never seen a silencer before"
Maybe I'm just a Stan for the FBI, but I honestly hope the FBI eat this shooter's lunch tomorrow.
The thing is, they don't need to pour over hours of video any longer. There are actually AI Solutions that will allow the them to do this in minutes. So much lost time. Literally they can search for guy on bike with backpack, or any search thread, and pull up corresponding video. If and when he's captured, it's likely to be because of the work of NYPD. This was all pieced together by a bunch of investigators poring over thousands of hours of video. They tracked his movements, found that hostel, identified images of him, and found video of him removing his mask.
Adams is a politician who has his own interests, but isn't involved at all in the investigation. I just hope they didn't tell him this guy's name!
On pins and needles! Really hoping it's the gun, but not expecting it either.I'm just dying to know what's in that backpack. I imagine we'll have an answer by tomorrow afternoon.
Is it though? It's honestly embarrassing how he got away. Lot of pressure on the police.
I sort of expected all outgoing travel points to be alerted and him caught enroute. Subway system, buses, lirr, metro north etcIs it though?
I have very little time for NYPD (and even less time for Mayor Adams!), but not sure what they could do different here.
They got to the scene quickly, they seem to have been pretty meticulous in scanning CCTV and tracing his steps and gathering evidence.
He likely got out of NYC very very quickly.
What I am somewhat amazed by is if he isn’t recognized by those images from the hostel. Of course, I’m sure they are going through a ton of tips, so only time will tell.
How is it embarrassing? He committed the crime, and was on a bus out of the city like two hours later. I don't think anyone can point to the facts here and criticize that occurring. Even if they somehow were able to quickly get a description out to officers, he was quickly on a bicycle, then on foot, then in a cab, then on a bus. It's honestly embarrassing how he got away. Lot of pressure on the police.
The element of surprise -- he used it to his advantage. Low tech. A bike for an escape in still dark-ish Central Park, then a bus at a satellite bus station. Unexpected. Not easy to stop, IMO.It's honestly embarrassing how he got away. Lot of pressure on the police.
Yup, just wondering how the AI solution handles the killer dressed as a blonde girl - for instance. The thing is, they don't need to pour over hours of video any longer. Using what description? By the time they had an image of him, he would have been well on the way to his destination, if not already there.I sort of expected all outgoing travel points to be alerted and him caught enroute. Subway system, buses, lirr, metro north etc
Yes. Comes across a lil podunk, when in actuality, post 9/11 NYPD has the country's most sophisticated tools/networks.The thing is, they don't need to pour over hours of video any longer.
