It's apparently easy to get a gun in illegally in NYC but not a silencer! Mayor Adams of NYC, career LE, said he'd never seen one before

ETA: BBM

That actually struck me as one of the least wise things the leader of freaking NYC could possibly have said at a time like this—that in all his years in LE he had never seen one before.

It is not like silencers are some mysterious, novel technology… more rare than equipment street gang bangers may use, but legal in 48 states.

Whether it’s true or not, I feel he should have kept that to himself . MOO

I doubt he had other luggage, but let's just assume he only changed his jacket. I think that's doable - I often surprise myself with how much I can fit in a backpack for a business trip. But the real question is... a separate bag? How'd he pull that off? Stole one from someone at the hostel? I doubt he'd buy one or steal something to draw attention to himself. Something just doesn't add up.
What if he did have two backpacks and one was left in the park full of different garb and such. Or an accomplice was waiting with the second backpack.

It sure was a striking comment ... here I am posting endlessly about it

If I have read the articles correctly, the gun he used did not have a silencer on it, but had kind of a built-in silencer? Is that correct?
Also, this gun did not jam, but it requires manual loading for each bullet? I may have gotten this completely wrong. I know nothing about guns.
Why would an assassin want to use a gun like this? Seems like it would be a tiny bit more complicated and take a tiny bit more time to load the weapon after each shot.
The weapon has a built-in silencer. And is single action, requiring it to be cycled manually. He also cycled extra to dislodge unspent rounds.

See post #164 … it’s got a video describing this weapon

"The shooter’s travels to and within New York City are gradually coming into focus, a senior law enforcement official said. The man arrived in New York City on an interstate bus from somewhere south of the city on Nov. 24, the official said. He checked into the hostel on the Upper West Side after that, checked out on Nov. 29 and checked back in the next day, the official added." Arrived even earlier than previously reported.

[Edited to reflect source's change from "from the South" to "from somewhere south of the city".]

They train 18-year-olds to be soldiers, so not surprising to me at all.

Yes, if he's a trained assassin. But he made a lot mistakes if he was actually trained.

One of the many mysteries. Could have tossed it into the water in Central Park. Again, why Starbucks (for water and protein bars nonetheless), why leave the phone... so many 'mistakes' that it feels on purpose.
maybe ambivalent about being caught

Gobsmacked by the statement would be an understatement here.

You and me both, it sounds like!

Paywalled for me, but "the South"? Like the direction south or the southern US?

Where has it been reported that DNA was found on a burner phone? Can't find that anywhere.
Upthread. Headline on a news article.

Thank you for explaining better than I can. I keep seeing posts that lead me to believe some have not seen this reported.

I wonder if he kept his hoodie up and mask on when riding on the bus and both hostel stays.

Well, that's interesting. Did all the rounds have words on them?

There are people standing & milling around at all hours all over Manhattan - especially weekday mornings in midtown. He didn't need to do anything to blend in or avoid notice.

It has signs of 'sending a message' (writing on bullets?!) aka terrorism ... but a terrorist killing by an ideologue mad about insurance coverage?!? Ummm that sounds absurd.

Cannot imagine any foreigner or foreign entity would give a moments thought to an American health insurance company CEO ! Our healthcare system is unique, who around the world would even know who BT is.

if he was a professional assassin he'd have gone right up behind the victim & used one close-range headshot, then keep walking & be gone as the victim falls .... not fired multiple shots from feet away into the victim's shoulder & leg or whatever

The idea of this person laughing & enjoying himself & indulging in protein bars before committing this outrage against an innocent man is sickening
MOO
I couldn’t agree more with everything you said.

Man, this guy is toast if he's still in the U.S. They already know way too much about his comings and goings, it's only a matter of time before they locate him, or at least know who he is so they can release his identity.
