I’m also thinking a name may be currently irrelevant to the American public if he’s not US born and is out of the country already. Which is a distinct possibility given the proximity of Central Park to EWR and LGA airports.

He could have checked in early in the am for an international flight, exited the secure area of the airport and taken the train down to midtown to do the deed, and headed back to the airport and re-entered security just in time for his flight.

They probably already have registered his movements for the hours of 4-6am yesterday, but I’d almost bet they’re looking for people who passed through security twice yesterday morning. MOO
Personally, I think he's from the general area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut). We have etched bullet casings, and likely, a vintage gun. This strikes me as some sort of fantasy that he was carrying out. I believe he's from here, and still is here, just not in NY anymore.

He looks like a women? Maybe a ex girlfriend mad at him.

Yes, you need a carry permit to purchase a gun here in CT. Getting the permit could take months depending on what town you live in.
Not if he obtained it illegally or if he has had it for a while?

Just back from work and reading all the British newspapers that show a photo of the alleged (using alleged in case it has not been confirmed) hitman with a massive smile on his face, what?!? Looks completely harmless which is the really scary thing.
Off to catch up on the 10+ pages of this thread I have not read.

wait so if the gun is designed to fire a nearly silent shot on its own, why would he need to use a suppressor?
I dont think he used a suppressor. Rather, the built in barrel of the gun is designed to function as a suppressor. Not surprisingly, it also looks like one.

Police stated the words on the live rounds and shell casings were meticulously written with a sharpie. Not that it matters, just wanted to clarify.

Perhaps this has already been mentioned here [I am just now returning back to the thread], there is a book titled Delay Deny Defend by Jay M. Feinman which is about how insurers’ won’t pay claims.

There's a connection, imo
No connection to the book author, though.

Someone upthread mentioned the podcast Kill List. If you ever doubted that people are hiring folks to kill someone via the dark web, give it a listen. Very solid reporting and investigation. It will be interesting to see if any of that ends up being part of this case. I thought that type of thing was just in movies but now I think otherwise

(Edited by me because I posted before writing)

I’m not as certain as you are, but... He did stay in a hostel overnight, which would be a lil odd for a local, and I’m not convinced the gun will turn out to be truly vintage.

I’m kind of going long and thinking this is possibly connected to the recent cyberattack/ransomware scheme.
Agree he’s likely playing out a sort of Robin Hood type fantasy, possibly with help from a network of folks who engage in this kind of criminal activity— a sort of darker Anonymous type group?

MOO, and I could be completely wrong, but with the bravado it smells a little like a modern-nerd-terrorist type of action, possibly with assistance from others.

Just my $.02

Yes, these things and the very nice teeth make me think he grew up in an upper middle class household. I think we'll find he's a US citizen. He looks to be 25-30 years of age.
Good point.

As a side note, upper middle class status not only facilitates good dental care, but good educations as well.

Whether he was using "Depose" in the legal sense or the political sense ("remove / over throw from power"), it is not a word that is in every day use.

Link to the paper, but it has a short vid/gif of him cycling the gun. That is what i found odd as well.

I don't think they would have traced it to a gun store if that was the case. Apparently they have record of where it was purchased. How else would they have know it was from CT?

If he is from here, how has he not been identified via social media? Can’t think of a single middle class or upper middle class Gen Z who has no social media presence. My bet is still on a foreign mercenary.

Police Look to ID Fingerprint on Water Bottle Left at Scene: Reports

Authorities have swept a fingerprint off a water bottle left at the scene of the shooting, though it is smudged, making identification difficult, CNN reports.

Police in New York are also working to unlock a cell phone that was left in an alleyway near the scene, per CNN.

The suspect is the target of a massive manhunt by authorities, but remains on the loose.

There has never been a case like this where there has been a "foreign mercenary" involved. That's movie stuff.

I know lots of people around this guy's age that have no social media presence. He might have one though, and we just don't know yet. Those images were only released a few hours ago.

They haven't said they have. LE are tracking sales of the suspected type of gun to see if they can link it to a possible suspect. It's just a lead at present.
