Just my opinion, and just an observation, but does it seem to anyone that NYPD seems to be moving at warp speed to find the killer of this wealthy CEO? I wonder if NYPD would move so quickly if the victim wasn't an "elite" leader of a huge health care insurance organization? This health care organization by the way is widely believed to take the money of millions of "little people" i.e. their customers, and then deny as many of their health claims as they possible can, in order to stuff more money into their overflowing pockets. Its frustrating that not all cases are handled the way this one has been.

Question, why a hostel vs. just a normal hotel? Both require ID and he just used a fake one anyway. Both have cameras. Do hotels require a credit card and hostels take cash? Wouldn't it be nice to have your own space vs. sharing with other random people that might identify you afterwards?

Anyone think this may have something to do with it? I'm on the fence. If they've been separated for years than why now? And people can be together but live in separate homes. It's uncommon but not unheard of. I know at least one example of a married couple living separately in my small hometown, and they're for sure not millionaires/billionaires.

Is everyone completely convinced that the unmasked guy and the suspect are one and the same? I know they were dressed differently and to me, the suspect appeared to have a longer, thinner nose. I wasn’t sure if this other guy could be an accomplice? I mean, have the cops said how they connected the two?
I’m not doubting them I’m just curious whether there could be more than one suspect at large or if these are supposed to be the same man. Has it been specified that it’s the same man?
TIA MOO
Light & shadows + angle can make proportions seem very different. For instance: take a selfie with harsh light, from a higher angle, straight ahead, lower angle… repeat this with a camera with lower quality. All pictures look like they could potentially be a different person. Or look in the mirror in a changing room in a store, some lights make you thinner/more beautiful, others make you wanna cry.

My point is: very difficult to compare 2 or more security pictures IMO

Maybe a price difference?

It’s kinda how it is with such a high profile case though - the news is front and centre. Also, assasinations in midtown Manhattan are not an every day occurance, so that hightens the focus of NYPD too, it’s not like they deal with this sort of stuff often, that part of NYC isn’t a hotbed of murder.

And it’s the news media that makes it in our faces, rather than the police doing the work they should be doing. Reminds me of how it with that recent yacht sinking off the coast of Italy, that was such huge news, couldn't escape it, but when it’s a migrant boat sinking in the same sea, you barely hear a peep. Sadly, the way of the world!

It appears to be at the iPark at 133 W 54th St. It's the only place I could immediately find that had a sidewalk separating the street and a parking lot (which appears on the right side of the video). There's also a video camera positioned on the column that separates the lot from the garage (per Google Street View). The street markings look correct.
You're spot on! down to the pothole/white marking in the parking area. Thank you!

The jackets are not the same. One jacket has a hood, the other appears to be a sweatshirt hoodie under a hoodless jacket.
I wonder..why would he bring two jackets?

Not all cases are this sensational. That's the sad reality.

I am thinking maybe the words written on the bullet casings are red herrings. Just seems a little too on the nose. Maybe the motive is something more personal, but the perp is trying to make it look like it's about insurance.
Bbm.
Agreed.
&, I can think of other motives....
Hopefully LE are close to apprehending the murderer and getting answers.
There needs to be justice for Brian.

Agree. He’s also an accused white collar criminal based on the DoJ insider trading investigation. Would they move the same mountains for a hood murder?

The only thing I can think of is that, in my experience, hostels tend to be much busier than hotels. On average, hotels seem to have a certain amount of guests that stay for more than one night. Hostels have a much, much higher turn around rate and many more people coming and going at all hours. He might’ve thought people would be less likely to remember him since you (again generally) see more fellow guests in a hostel than a hotel.

edited to add -- basically since he had his hood up and was wearing plain/basic clothes and colors, it is easier for him to blend in at a hostel than a hotel. just personally, his backpack would possibly stick out to me if i saw it at a hotel, but hostels frequently have backpackers so a big/unique one wouldn't necessarily stick out to me in that environment.

I’m also wondering if he (mistakenly) thought a hostel wouldn’t have cameras like a hotel would

Just pure speculation JMO

Price would be my guess. Youth hostels are normally fairly cheap. Hotels get expensive very quickly.

To my knowledge, most hotels in NYC don’t allow e-bikes as they are a big fire hazard. However I just checked and one of the amenities at the HI NY International Hostel is bike parking, so that may have been a contributing factor in the decision to stay at a hostel rather than a hotel (I would imagine hotels are also stricter with ID requirements).

At least one of them didn't want to get a divorce, for some reason, which is very strange for such a high net worth family. Typically both parties would want to split assets and put them in their own name, not just trust the other party to be fair. With his current salary, you can assume his net worth was over $40M easily.

They had two teens, one in the house and one out of the house. Once the youngest child leaves for college, child support is a moot point.

And he was in the middle of a DOJ investigation for insider trading.....if he was found guilty, it could greatly affect his net worth, and his ability to obtain another high paying job.

I mean, have you ever heard the name John Jeff? His 2020 murder in NYC is still unsolved. I venture to say nothing like this level of resources was expended in finding his killer. Make of that what you will. Off-duty correction officer fatally shot after leaving party in Queens

<modsnip - quoted post was off-topic entertainment piecce>

This area is just blocks away from very high traffic areas like Rockefeller Center (insanely busy this time of year & if I remember correctly, the tree lighting that people flock to was the night of the murder), Central Park, Radio City Music Hall, various Broadway theaters, Carnegie Hall, the shops on Fifth Ave., and a bit further downtown, Times Square. If you're a tourist in NYC, chances are you will be very close to West 54th and 6th ave during your vacation for something. So the location would be in play here too and the NYPD would want to have this one solved quickly because of that too.
Not that this case should have more effort put into it solely because the victim was wealthy, that's obviously not right, but the location is important here too.
