It’s NYC. The only thing that would cause folks to take a second look about that outfit is if the person licked the handrail in the subway

I do not think this person has gone back home. I think that was probably his original plan, but did not account for that much of his face to be shown. At some point on his way home he sees the pictures that have been released and freaks out. He has to change his plan. He has to find somewhere to go. He has to get a disguise. He probably didn't carry enough cash on him for this change of plan. He will have to use a debit or credit card or steal. The FBI probably knows his name by now, just not where he went. It would be easy to avoid detection in a big city with a hat, wig, beard and wearing a covid mask (not like the mask he was wearing). The problem there is big cities are quite expensive. He needs to use cash as well. I think the key to him not getting caught is how much cash he can get to finance his run. I am not sure that was in his original plan

If he is serious about avoiding capture, he has an abundant stash of ready cash. He could either be abroad, or somewhere in little town America. I don't know why I keep thinking Arizona. But my more exotic theory is that he got away to Europe ASAP, and then traveled far from his arrival city, in a more rural locale. However, my more exotic theory does not account for a visa, which would expire.

I don’t think they know his name. Even if LE knew it, and wasn’t releasing it, I feel like someone would have went to the media by now with his name and said “oh, that’s ___, I went to school with him!” Even on the condition on anonymity, someone would leak his name if they really knew it. And we’ve seen none of that.

I think it depends on the media outlet. A respectable and reliable news outlet would vet the information before they released it to the public. They would almost certainly share it with police. And LE would likely ask them to keep the name to themselves until an arrest has been made.

That’s just my opinion.

Although, of he wanted to make sure, why not a head shot when he gets in close. So perhaps he wasn't making sure he did the job, perhaps he hangs around and gets close to say something to BT, like "this is for so and so"

I'm so conflicted about this one! I got excited about the reporting of the name being known, and then the FBI immediately increased the reward to $50k which doesn't seem to indicate they've got their guy or an arrest is imminent.

The reward increase worried me. Maybe they need more of the public’s help? If that were the case, I think they would release where the bus was going maybe and if they thought he had an accent not.I don’t know.

Completely agreed. The enigma is in the inconsistency. Potentially leaves DNA evidence but hides his face for days. So much planning but discards his backpack, his burner phone and other items. Uses an unusual gun, wears standout items, chooses to kill in midtown Manhattan, in the presence of witnesses, on foot.

Perhaps he thought that the video from his check-in day would safely be gone by the time of the murder. The NYPD did well to trace him to the hostel so quickly, assuming that’s really the shooter.

I question if it's even the same guy.
Remember when the Boston bombing happened? Two wrong suspect's faces were plastered everywhere.

Yes, it's easily found on social media or the internet. Not linking it because I don't want to watch, but I've almost accidentally watched a few times!

I saw something a few days ago that the first shot may have been lower than he intended because that gun fires more downward than one would expect. JMO, I have never shot a gun so I would not know

Probably unpopular opinion, but I’ll share.
I don’t think he was flirting like we think he was. He had to show his face to get the room. I think he knew that.
Makes me wonder if it’s LE tactic to try to rattle him (kinda like tickling the wire) to make him appear stupid and not in control.

The way the media and pundits talk about this flirting moment is telling.
He could have been checking in and going along with the flirting and then she says “let me see your pretty face” as she’s checking his ID, instead of “please pull your mask down so that I can confirm your identity”.
It could be as simple as that.
She’d had to confirm especially since this hostel doesn’t allow guests with residences within a 75 mile radius.

Fellow NYers, that looks just inside the perimeter wall on 59th. What do you think? What other wall is there south of the carousel? But why mention the carousel if it's so close to 59th? I might need to take a field trip....

I said this before but I think he normally has a beard. In the hostel photo his skin around his chin and jaw is much paler than the rest of his face. Looks like someone that recently shaved off a beard.

A few posters have mentioned this, and it makes really good sense to me. Maybe he is growing his facial hair back now. Maybe he's groomed his eyebrows and dyed his hair. He'll be caught eventually, and he's not as clever as he thinks he is. MOO

A leg is much harder to hit than the torso, and there was just no reason to do that. There was no one else directly in the line of fire.

Many times right handed shooters miss low and left because they are anticipating the recoil of the gun.

So I’m chalking that up to an unintentional miss. What’s also interesting is that he didn’t give the coup de grace, shooting him in the head to make sure he was dead.

A bit sloppy.

Ratigan's case, Thompson's case, or both?

We have ran into this a million times, but usually speculated the perp is a woman when a woman is murdered by a strange figure on CCTV.

The Florence Salon murders, Missy Bevers, Liz B, Lane Bryant massacre, lots of others.

I'm not seeing lots of others, and not seeing any ambiguity in this case either, there are witnesses that shared a room with him.
The Forence murders were commited by a man, he was arrested but not convicted. He wasn't dressed as or mistaken for a woman. Lane Bryant had a surviving witness/victim and audio of the male suspect, there was no confusion about him being male.

I think the perp looks Colombian, I think he looks like a hustler/gigolo/scammer/kept-man. I think he had an intimate relationship with BT and this is about taking his money. This guy knows NYC and the surrounding area and is street smart in that way. I wouldn't be surprised if BT was talking to the perp and the perp to BT at the time they were both on then phone. JMO on what I have seen so far. He reads street smart scammer over professional hit man to me.

Replying to myself - there is also the bridge just south of the carousel where pedestrians walk under it and bikes go over it. I can't picture if there is a wall like this though - maybe? I still think it's just inside the park. If so, he shed it FAST. Well, either way, it was fast.
