Another Minnesota-based health insurer closes main campus

Another health insurer based in Minnesota has closed its main campus after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was killed in New York City on Wednesday.

While police have not established a motive for Wednesday's attack, Medica said in a statement reported by local media: "Although we have received no specific threats related to our campuses, our office buildings will be temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution.

The health insurer added: "Like other insurers, Medica also has removed from our website the bios of its executives, for the same precautionary reasons."

I also read today that other health insurance corporations will be doing Zoom meetings instead of in person.

"He let off a fatal volley of shots
then hopped on an e-bike, melting into a city alive with CCTV cameras as witnesses called police.

So why is the gunman who left UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson dead on the pavement still at large?"

Holy cow I knew the backpack was a couple hundred but missed the jacket cost wow. I’m not sure what to make of that…seems unlikely there would be an anti-insurance or anti-greed/capitalism angle when just your backpack and jacket alone total a grand. But the again people are often strange hypocritical creatures

See I'm thinking he really is from NYC because that's where people are more into expensive clothes/gear. I'm from Kansas City and we'd be hard pressed to dress as nice as Bridge Guy. But seriously in my mind the expensive backpack and clothing do not fit with an anti-capitalist avenger.

My feeling is the guy is Russian, looking at his pic he doesn’t look American to me

My feeling is he came into the country, possibly some time ago to kill BT and has probably left the country now or is lying low for a few days before leaving the country, he was probably not working alone

Russians have to do military service when young so that would explain his skill as a marksman when he is early 20’s at most

Having been to Moscow a few times young Russians love designer clothes out there

Plus if he was American someone would recognise him, a coworker, an ex partner, a family member, someone

My feeling is he is Russian mafia, they, and other eastern European gangs don’t use uzi’s, glock’s etc but very discreet weapons that can’t be traced

Did BT get on the wrong side of Russian’s, hmmmmm

It was actually making me consider he was non-American since in my experience, European, middle eastern, and Asian men are much more likely to wear expensive clothes. I think you’re right that in America it would happen more in huge cosmopolitan cities like NYC or LA, but having multiple expensive clothing items and accessories always kinda strikes me as non-American

the simplest explanation is that he is someone who hates UnitedHealthcare, and for-profit health insurance companies in general. there is no reason to suspect anything else, other than the pleasure of theorizing random stuff on the internet.
Remember Walker Railey? He was a preacher who was having an affair with a choir lady. He sent himself threatening letters for weeks saying "You will die soon" and stuff like that, supposedly because Railey preached against racism. But it was all a red herring, as Walker was planning to kill his wife and pin it on the supposed disgruntled congregant. This is why I thought the words written on the bullet casings were a little too on the nose.

I personally don't see why a motive of a dying relative who didn't get a claim approved would be viable. Some are painting the perpetrator as a disgruntled family member of someone who has a terminal illness and whose claims got denied by UHC and hence the family is now in debt and fell on a hard time etc... this does absolutely not line up with the perpetrator's apparent lifestyle. His clothes, choice of weapon and bags are not cheap. With that sort of money to spend he could have helped a family member financially to begin with. I think this is a lot more personal in relation to the victim directly

Eh, this kind of super casual but insanely pricey straight-from-REI clothing (from the backpack to the $$$$$ jacket / hoodie) is basically the uniform of every twentysomething tech worker in the Bay Area. Definitely doesn’t strike me as foreign at all.

Tips seems like a perfect use case for AI in investigations. How many departments would love to have custom AI engines that help weed out the lulus and highlight the really useful ones (at least for a first pass)?
Pretty sure Delphi PD wish they'd have had some free, unbiased help there... MOO.
That’s not how AI works…

Why was he sharing his room with two others? If he was a professional hitman, he would have enough money to stay somewhere where he wouldn’t have to share a room. Is that all he could afford maybe?

This + the several others mistakes he made in leaving evidence strongly suggests that despite the planning, it was not a professional hit. Nothing will be taken for granted, but I think the words on the bullets are a good indicator of motive.

There’s been some disagreements here about what ethnicity he looks like and it’s true that people from different countries can have similar features of course, but I’m completely with you, he looks (southern/central) Russian to me. Southeastern Europe could also work, like Serbian or Albanian

Being able to afford expensive clothing/sneakers is a far cry from being able to afford thousands of dollars in medical treatments.

NYPD has done an amazing job and I imagine they still are. But they must know his name after all of the buses photos hostels etc ? I realize he gave fake id etc they must know his name by now and his movements and are just not sharing till they make an arrest???

More than likely they know by now.
With the flaws in his plan and execution that we’ve seen so far, I find it hard to believe they’d be the only ones. He must’ve committed a bunch of other mistakes we don’t know about…
