Do CEO's only wear a certain type of jacket? He's from Minnesota, I'm sure he has some sort of ski/winter coat that he wears during winter. Yeah, he's rich, that doesn't mean he's walking around 28 degree 6am NYC without a winter coat. JMO
I'm married to a man from Minnesota and he absolutely would walk across the street without a coat in 28 degree weather. It wouldn't even be a thought.

Also consider not only the very short distance he had to walk, but hours inside a warm conference room when he got there. A coat would just be something else to bother with, and it wasn't necessary.

Even the body looks womanly

Agreed. They would just initiate another hack/release some sensitive info. Do something "techy" not a murder on the streets of NY. MOO
oh, god! finally someone who gets it!

10 days at the hostel is a very long time. You know when you stay at a hotel for a few nights, you start to see the same desk clerk, same guests, a certain familiarity exists. There has to be footage from the surrounding areas. Where did he get food in those ten days? Was everything done in cash? Only two backpacks that contained his clothing, including multiple jackets, necessary toiletries (the hostel isn’t providing that)? It seems like an excessive amount of time before the conference. How long was the conference to last-was he just scoping it out that morning and lucked into his target? Or were all ten days in prep for that day, getting a battery, acquiring and stashing a bike, multiple burner phones, learning the transit system..

The murder could be a warning of course - Nobody wants to see the other shoe drop. Well, nobody civilised wants to see another attack on a human being. IMO.

Yesterday I watched a Real Housewives of Salt Lake City episode where the one family had security at a Bat Mitzvah. (And because it was the Real Housewives drama, they had to be used to escort an unhinged attendee out). If wealthy individuals hire private security for a simple party/celebration, it seems likely that a major corporate event like this one would also have its own hired security. Especially given the fact that a lot of execs like this have their own private security detail (something i just learned with this case).

So, was there security in place inside/outside the Hilton for this conference? Or, was there going to be and they hadn't arrived yet? Would the average adult know that conferences like this usually have security, if they indeed do? If so, I think it's very possible the gunman didn't know if he'd personally survive this, but did it anyway. Maybe he's as surprised as everyone else he hasn't been caught or killed yet.

As always, JMO.

Well, maybe it is because I keep hearing about people getting bumped off (for lack of a better word) in Russia by organized crime groups especially to send a warning message to others, I am inclined to think that this crime has the same signature.

Corporate America does not have one single look and feel anymore. They don’t all look like they came out of a scene in Mad Men with dark suits and briefcases.
And he's from Iowa/Minnesota.

I'm still leaning towards BT setting up the murder himself.
1. Scheduled it for NY so that it will be far away from his wife and kids. He knows it will be bad for them either way, but setting it up in NY is almost like a buffer between the two places so that locals don't have to deal with it, hence involving his family. Anyone looking to kill him would find it easier in the small suburb in Minnesota: less cameras, less traffic, less police experience in these kinds of killings. So much easier in Maple Grove, Minnesota than NYC, NY.
2. He was under investigation with insider trading. Maybe he was afraid the money would be taken from him, thus his kids and estranged wife would be left with nothing, plus the shame of him being found guilty and possibly going to jail. He would rather die than go to jail or his boys be ashamed of him. Plus he had life insurance going to them.
3. Shooter had no qualms about going to Starbucks less than 30 minutes before shooting. He had no worries about "missing" the timeframe of BT walking out, so he knew absolutely what time BT would walk out. How? Only BT would know as no one was with him. Even if a bellman would tip him off, he sure as heck would not be hanging out getting a latte and missing the chance when bellman would call him with the tip "Hey, he just got off the elevator." I think he was on the phone with BT himself who said "I'm heading down right now. And I've got on a bright blue blazer."
4. BT wore a bright blue jacket -- not something a CEO going to a conference would wear. Plus it was frigid. BT worth millions. Would have had a nice suit, plus overcoat. And I don't think BT had any kind of bag with him. Most people going to a daylong conference would have his laptop bag. I think BT knew he was NOT going to need his laptop, so he left it behind. BT was 50 years old. Young enough to be very techy savvy. My adult kids and my husband all rely on their laptops at work: leaving it in a hotel room while going off to work for a day in NYC would make no sense at all.
5. Hitman was in NYC for 10 days. I think he was given $$ ahead of time. Thought, well, I might as well visit NYC because they will be looking for me afterwards, so I'll just go early and see the sights. BT was in town for just one day conference, so it's not like Hitman was looking at BT's regular activity for ten days.
6. Bullets being labeled was a setup to let everyone think it's a disgruntled insurancee or their family member.
7. BT used to have security. Why not in NYC?
8. Hitman seemed too casual to be on a personal vendetta. More of a professional hitman who knew he had a job to do, but was experienced enough that this was not too big of a deal. If I was wanting revenge for a loved one or for myself, I would be focused on getting the job done: in Maple Grove closer to his home so his loved ones could experience the pain I had closer to them, not seeing the sights in NYC, not smiling at the hostel employee, not smiling at all. NYC is way too expensive to do a hit there and everyone knows there are cameras everywhere. Doing it in Maple Grove would have been so much easier and less newsworthy.
Never in a million years what I have thought of it this way until I read your post. It makes more sense than anything else, and you have me convinced. With his resources, BT could have also provided a getaway plan for the shooter. It’s scary how much sense it would all make.

If BT set it up, I think he'd pick a lonely highway in Minnesota at night without cameras.

Everything I’ve read and seen looks like foreign actors involved.

True or not, this is a very plausible scenario. That bright blue jacket continues to gnaw at my unconscious. Of course, I'm nowhere near any corporate executives, yet I always imagine them in suits of black, deep navy, or shades of grey.

EDIT: In his official UHC photo, he appears to be wearing a casual, navy blue zippered jacket. That may have been intentional to portray a gosh-gee-willikers-I'm-just-like-you sort of image as opposed to one in a $5K tailored suit.

MOO.
IMO - BT was going to be on video calls/taped. Careful attention would be given to color of his clothing vs background in the room where he is presenting. And others suggested it was the corporate color blue.

There are people who manage this type of process and thought is given to production. From an experience at prior employer for example, they would NOT have execs wear crisp bright white shirts as it caused something they call burn or glow. They would have shirts like slightly tea stained, there were special shirts just for the corporate videos. Some stripes or contrasts also forbidden.

Dark blue, grey suits … more finance / corporate. Midwest insurance … the blue prob exactly right

I’m sorry I’m just really not understanding how people view this person as a woman. I find this be a very clear man.
I think it is the eyelashes that look feminine.

Maybe involved with or is a trader who was short selling UHC stock?

  • #377
You can verify this online. In 2019 the UHC denial rate was 8.7%. Thompson came in 2021. In 2022, the denial rate was 22.7%.
UHC used artificial intelligence to increase claims denials for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries between 2019 and 2022, according to Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. UHC would not say if they are still using AI. They most often denied coverage to patients in nursing homes, rehab hospitals and long-term hospitals, the report found. UHC was sued for using AI, which had a 90% failure rate.

Thomson was accused of insider trading by the Justice Department, an ongoing case, although I cannot see this as a reason for his assassination.
I wouldn't discount the DOJ investigation at this juncture.

This backpack looks to have been almost gently 'placed' in the ditch and not flung or tossed at speed from a bike.

It's laying flat on its back, and there are no marks in the leaves or soil from where it was thrown or kicked down there in a hurry.

The bag looks like it was laid down like a newborn baby in a crib.

I totally agree. The city is a main character in this assassination. We talk about it more than the victim for a reason. NYC is a big part of this crime and the killer used the city well.

Me too.

NYC at Christmas is the most exciting time and place to have to attend a work conference.

BT was at that fabulous hotel, in that very most fab area, what a great place and time to be a wealthy guy.

I, if he, for sure would not be staying at the conference hotel with the rest of them. Of course a brief visit to the hospitality room but otherwise not wanting to bump into them coming and going from the limo.

Breakfast at fab hotel, no question, not conference fare may sip some water at the conference table.

Carry a laptop no way phone is for the very most inner circle if needed.

Not planning on doing more than speak and be the center of attention then go back to fab hotel.

Speak to staff around here somewhere if something needs notation or looking up.

A bit unsteady from a late night on the town, waddling from my fab breakfast. Festive and bright though because it’s NYC at Christmas.

A predictable scenario especially if BT had company routinely in his rooms at conferences. A possible weakness for company that might be exploited.

All imo
