Do CEO's only wear a certain type of jacket? He's from Minnesota, I'm sure he has some sort of ski/winter coat that he wears during winter. Yeah, he's rich, that doesn't mean he's walking around 28 degree 6am NYC without a winter coat. JMO

someone posted that this jacket was the UHC "color of blue". That would make more sense as to why the wierd color of blue for the meeting.

A predictable scenario especially if BT had company routinely in his rooms at conferences. A possible weakness for company that might be exploited.

All imo
Snipped. That's an angle we (surprisingly) haven't discussed much or at all. Is a honeypot the informant?

Shave off all the facial hair, throw on a wig that hides much of the face, then add eyelashes and some salines. Oh and heels. And there you go.
Don't forget the red lipstick

I like it, especially since I am wondering about an Andrew Cunanan-type scenario.
I can see why Cunanan occurs to you, but something tells me that this individual has none of the fear, psychopatholgy or emotional neediness that drove Cunanan.

The matter of factness with which he conducted his operations - apart from that dazzling smile - suggests to me a deep internal calm. I also feel like the real drudgery of the event for him was the getaway.

He's also walking to the meeting. That doesn't necessarily mean that he was going to wear that jacket when in front of a conference and speaking. JMO

Makes sense. Another reason I think it is was a powerplay and nothing more.

what makes you think they know his name by now? best thing they have is a partial pic of his face. unless they get a useful tip, they're kinda in a bad spot.
I don’t think they know his name. Even if LE knew it, and wasn’t releasing it, I feel like someone would have went to the media by now with his name and said “oh, that’s ___, I went to school with him!” Even on the condition on anonymity, someone would leak his name if they really knew it. And we’ve seen none of that.

Come to think of it, I have a friend who is of similar build to the shooter, and has little to no facial hair. One Halloween he dressed up as a woman. Everyone remarked about how good he looked as a woman. However, and I keep saying this, those hands are VERY manly. Even a nice set of acrylic nails wouldn't disguise them. MOO

A professional hit man would not arrive 10 days early.

A professional hit man would not be doing planes, trains and automobiles, bikes etc.

A professional hitman would not be staying in a hostel sharing a room with others.

A professional hit man would not be dumping backpacks and clothes to be found.

A professional hit man wouldn’t be using a a rare type of gun with bolt action.

A professional hit man wouldn’t be sloppy.

This guy is not a Pro.

Buses, hostels, bikes, discarding personal items upon his getaway, dropping a phone, using being seen at Starbucks etc.

Ya, no pro.

He’s a guy who wants to make a statement in the biggest way possible and he’s accomplished that.

He wants to appear professional but he’s not.

He’ll be caught.

MOO
Sorry, I beg to differ. Why would a professional hitman who is new to the city (and maybe even the country) not arrive 10 days early? Do you expect him to wing it? This was a very carefully planned crime which enabled the shooter to carry out the shooting in plain sight, recorded on video and still escape from the scene unscathed. He was not sloppy and as for the gun, I agree with folks who say the silencer it was fitted with was key. It could also be the one that he was trained on and it allowed him to leave those messages behind on the bullet casings. JMO

This backpack looks to have been almost gently 'placed' in the ditch and not flung or tossed at speed from a bike.

It's laying flat on its back, and there are no marks in the leaves or soil from where it was thrown or kicked down there in a hurry.

The bag looks like it was laid down like a newborn baby in a crib.
Didn't take the time to conceal it or cover it with leaves. He wanted it found, imo.

Well, I was only trying not to flood the thread with a long winded text about my personal experience while using AI to help me assert if something is true or not, because I don’t have any links to provide and the rules are that if I don’t have links, I can’t post about it.

Would be happy to take this talk somewhere else where I could explain my point to you, but maybe after I get some sleep (haven’t had any tonight).
I tend toward long winded posts sometimes— part of the entertainment of WS is to solve puzzles, & sometimes it takes a minute to express an idea. I hope people who hate that just scroll on (or smash the ignore button) rather than take offense. I don’t mind it at all when people explain their ideas and I’d welcome yours.

You’re welcome to dm me if you feel up for it. I’d be happy to discuss AI use cases in criminology.

Yeah, I do feel that him arriving so early has to do with him doing recon of the area and things like cameras and all kinds of surveillance.

Also, he could’ve been following BT since Monday and knew he would be without a security detail because he was in a hotel so close to the place where the meeting would happen.
I wonder if the security team were staying at the cheaper hotel with the other UHC staff, where the conference was taking place, and that a very short stroll from BT’s hotel to the Hilton, at such an early hour, was not deemed enough of a risk to go beyond “BT and the security team meet in the Hilton lobby every morning” rather than him be escorted across the street.

I think he simply wanted to discard it. If the backpack was found by a passerby or by the NYPD, didn't matter to him, imo. It's usefulness was done so he left it behind, and that's all there is to it.

I half-expect red herrings to be in it, though.

Then winter is a good time of year to disguise that if needed.

Just a point of view from my personal hostel stays: I have stayed in rooms of 10 mix genders strangers for a week to 14 days duration. During my stay, I only really ever got to know 1 or two people at most, the rest was either gone or asleep when I was coming home. People also often left and someone new appeared in their bed, and no one would question it. The entry requirements are also more lax, I've had people bring strangers to the room and stay over on the floor for free. The shower facilities are also usually shared by multiple rooms on the floor, so that's like 30 people or so. I think he chose the hostel because the security is more lax than let's say a hotel chain and they would be easier fooled by a fake ID.

Gives me the effing creeps.

Scott Ratigan CCTV footage on the left.

I thought of Scott Ratigan as well. I don’t believe it’s the same killer, but definitely came to mind in terms of the attire. And unfortunately that one remains unsolved, and without the meticulous piecing of surveillance footage we’ve seen here, nor a flirty hostel clerk to unmask the killer, I think it will remain so.

I will admit, I did expect to wake up to a name today, but it’s just a matter of time. I’m sure LE wants not only to know who he is, but more importantly to know where he is and arrest him before releasing that information.

I’d keep an eye on social media to see if there are any reports of a large police presence swarming a house or apartment building in NJ, PA, or really anywhere!

MOO- he meant to be seen and took steps to use those to his advantage. I don't think he is from Atlanta. I don't think he took the subway F train that morning, and I don't think his first direction when he left the bus station was toward home.
