Authorities have the name of the suspect who assassinated United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and are closing in, Mayor Adams said Saturday.

“We don’t want to release that now,” the mayor said when asked if police have the killer’s name. “If you do, you are basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and we do not want to give him an upper hand at all. Let him continue to believe he can hide behind the mask. We revealed his face. We’re going to reveal who he is and we’re going to bring him to justice.”

“WE don’t want to release that now,
WE revealed his face.
WE’re going to reveal who he is

I feel that Adams just HAS to be part of the drama....

I hope someone will post as soon as his statements are validated by LE or FBI.

Fellow NYers, that looks just inside the perimeter wall on 59th. What do you think? What other wall is there south of the carousel? But why mention the carousel if it's so close to 59th? I might need to take a field trip....
I does look like that wall, but I could see it being near one of the walkways higher up. The carousel mention is confusing; maybe they don't want to give too exact of a location to the general public?

Suicide by assassin is an interesting theory. It would explain the somewhat lackadaisical manner of the shooter....meaning, I wonder.... if you're killing someone at their own request, do you subconsciously not really grasp the risks of either getting caught/arrested for murder or outright killed yourself if someone--a guard, police officer, or civilian--was armed and in the vicinity?

Would "doing it because he asked me to" lessen your fear of getting caught? I could see how it might (erroneously).

As always, JMO.
I think if I was going to hire someone to do this, I'd request a head shot. One and done type of thing. The shooting in the leg and then him stumbling around and then being shot in the chest. He lived for a while and I can't imagine that would be what he requested if he did hire someone. I agree it is possible this was someone hired to do this, but it's a really odd way to go if you want someone to kill you.

I personally don't buy the suicide idea. At all.

He looks far to young to have been a high level senior executive, I would say at best he is 25, at that age he is unlikely to have more than a middle management/supervisory role in his employment if he worked for UHC

Also anyone he worked with would know who the killer is, I think it is unlikely
Maybe he’s a college student and it was good timing to do this over thanksgiving break.

Replying to myself - there is also the bridge just south of the carousel where pedestrians walk under it and bikes go over it. I can't picture if there is a wall like this though - maybe? I still think it's just inside the park. If so, he shed it FAST. Well, either way, it was fast.

jmo
I commented on your other post before seeing this. I think it could be that pedestrian bridge as well.

I am curious who else was going to this meeting that day. Was it possible this wasn't the target and the shooter got it wrong? Is there anyone else there that could have been the target?

Being on the West Coast, and getting up late is a pain when you're following a crime on the east coast.

Rather than thoroughly reading some 25 pages to catch up (while needing to work), are there any major updates or are things still in limbo like last night?
CNN is not doing their updates anymore, neither NBC.

Identity?
Backpack contents?
New sighting or travel?
etc?

TIA
They say they have a name, no to the other two questions

Brian sounds like he was a wonderful (and accomplished) guy and he was liked by all. It reminds me of my husband. There is not one person who has anything bad to say about him. Some people just have that type of personality. I, OTOH, am sometimes characterized as being "polarizing." ;)

Here's a link to info/obit on Brian. What a loss. I feel very bad for his surviving family. :'(

Updated timeline: abbreviated from https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/07/us/timeline-brian-thompson-unitedhealthcare-killing/index.html

Long time lurker. I don't think enough time and consideration has been given to the video of the suspect talking on a burner phone just prior to the murder. Who was he talking to? If a burner, it is unlikely he was checking in with parents or someone else intimately involved with him. So who does that leave?

No doubt. Adams is a hugely unlikable and disliked man.

I think he wears Addidas running shoesView attachment 549921

I don't think these are the ones. I think the white midsole is much wider than on these shoes. However, I think there are a lot of shoes out there with the same look and it's probably not fruitful going after that to identify him.

A few posters have mentioned this, and it makes really good sense to me. Maybe he is growing his facial hair back now. Maybe he's groomed his eyebrows and dyed his hair. He'll be caught eventually, and he's not as clever as he thinks he is. MOO
it would be great if they posted some "altered" photos of him, with different color hair, facial hair etc.

Hmm, that's a good point. I had him around 30-35, but I could also see 25-ish. If it were an employee (and that theory is much less plausible than the egomaniac Robin Hood theory IMO), I could see him as some sort of management/IT consultant. I'm not sure how the major health insurers work, but I worked for a finance firm, and some of our highest paid IT consultants were around 27-35.

SO TRUE!

While BT’s blue jacket may not be NYC fashionista chic, it may be the height of luxury Minnesota outerwear.

Or it may just be comfortable for a five minute walk and BT was going to remove it anyway, once inside the Hilton.

Or blue was BT’s favorite color.

Or whatever!

This is the essence of NYC…we have every kind of person, with every kind of taste, coming from everywhere and anywhere, and no one cares.

I’ve been puzzled why his blue jacket has been a topic for discussion at all.

JMO
Is it UHC blue?

Also, say what you will about NYC. But when there’s a crime that happens that could potentially affect its economy and status as the financial capital of the world. MOO

With corporate travel and tourism its height (Q4 meetings and Christmas). They are going to leverage and throw every resource at it. You’re going to get caught.

IMO when they do find him. We’ll learn that they had way more on day 1 then we were led to believe. Including his identity, address, where he made all of his purchases, detailed route of travel. Etc. JMO

He’s likely hiding in some basement or the woods somewhere. He most certainly isn’t wherever he calls home as they are/have likely had it and close family members homes under 24/7 surveillance.

MOO

Absolutely great point. This would be the perfect timing for it if he were a college student - his roommates/suite mates/classmates might think he's gone home for break, his parents might think he stayed on campus..
