I found the part I bolded interesting (from his X account):

On X, an account appearing to belong to Luigi Mangione frequently replied to posts discussing philosophy, psychology and evolutionary biology with thoughts and critiques.

[snip]

In another reply, posted Jan. 24, the account shared what appears to be a screenshot of a post from the question-and-answer site Quora. “Those who feel strong aversion to adjusting to a mal-adjusted society are deemed mentally ill, alcoholics, substance abusers or slackers,” the original Quora post said.

John Miller:

Dumps the bicycle, dumps the other backpack, but keeps the gun. That does make you question if he was going to do this again. Is that why he has this note on him that explains the mindset behind it?

He was buried in his laptop at a table in the back of the Mcdonalds. Didn't have access to the gun because it was in his bag. Maybe thought he could talk his way through it.

Mangione, 26, suffered chronic back pain from an apparent pinched nerve, said R.J. Martin, Surfbreak’s founder. His friends stopped hearing from him this summer.
Mangione was committed to personal development through reading and working out. He got around Oahu by bicycle, and even after he moved out of Surfbreak he would walk with Wexler from Magic Island to Surfbreak, located in the penthouse of a building near the Hawaii Convention Center.

Martin recalled the problem, which had lingered for years, was a misaligned vertebrae that would pinch Mangione’s spinal cord.

"He went radio silent in June or July,” Martin said.

These are just a few excerpts. Much more at link.
Sounds like he may have had spondylolisthesis

Living with chronic pain is no joke. It can drive a person mad in every sense of the word.

I'm curious though, why he might not have put some of his $8000 + dollars, perhaps with help from family, towards surgery. Isn't his family wealthy?
If the x-rays he was showing people were his, he has already had surgery, ie., the rods in his spine. That does not stop the pain. JMO

Errrr... say what?? (per your linked article):

[the shooter's family] own several country clubs, including Haysfield Country Club in Hunt Valley, as well as healthcare facilities

I wonder if those healthcare facilites provided some motive here. Maybe they were being investigated for something, who knows

@BrianEntin

Investigators say Luigi Mangione had $8,000 USD on him and 2,000 in foreign currency,Also bags to block cellular data.

Foreign currency... or more Monopoly money?

Seriously though... what sort of foreign currency? It sounds like he was going to potentially leave the country. Although, I don't know what took him so long. Why was he still here? Trying to throw them off his trail and THEN leave the country? As opposed to a straight line from where he killed BT and wherever it was he was planning on going. Italy?

According to that article, he did have surgery after Hawaii. But consequently did not keep touch with the Hawaii group.
I wonder if the surgery exacerbated his condition.
Actually, the surgery could have made the pain worse. Could have helped him be mobile but at a cost of being in constant pain. JMO

Him keeping the gun intrigues me. He had so much time to discard any incriminating evidence so that it might never have been found.
I believe the police said that his keeping the gun was the indicator to them that they may have captured him “midstream.”

Who other than LM knows right now if he had another target in mind, or several targets.

LE also took note that in his manifesto he said “parasites,” plural.

I do hope LM confesses and reveals how and why he enacted this crime with pinpoint precision.

It has been reported that he had a laptop. I think he wanted to use the wifi. It was noted when he was approached by LE that LE told him to drop his mask. So, that tells me he wasn't eating, because how could he if he was wearing a mask?

Good point, I agree it must’ve been the wifi! Any person wearing a mask in McDs is obviously not eating and might even draw attention to themselves. JMO

“When two police officers arrived at the McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where Luigi Mangione was eventually arrested, they found a man “wearing a medical mask and a beanie” and sitting “in the rear of the building at a table,” looking at a laptop, according to a criminal complaint.

Officers asked him to pull down the mask to see his face — and “immediately recognized him as the suspect,” the complaint says.”

With him losing his job and probably bed ridden for a while due to back surgery last year, he probably had too much time to think. Maybe he read that Deny, defend, delay book. He had always been a thinker per his friends but now he got morbid and went over the edge. An idle brain is the devil’s workshop. JMO.

The YouTube account with his photo and name was created in January of 2024. Would it be possible for someone to have changed the name of their YouTube account to his, once news of this broke? There was a scheduled video that was apparently going to be made public around this time, but the account has since been removed.
It appears that it indeed was hijacked. Sorry if that's already been discussed. Y'all are posting faster than I can read!

YouTube also terminated a channel Monday for impersonation. That channel had changed its name and handle after Mangione’s arrest, Bell said.

The issue of pain and mental health is something that is not usually discussed. Chronic pain can cause serious mental health issues beyond depression. Also have to wonder if there were mental health issues (think Ted Kaczynski) before the suspected back injury. Not an excuse for actions but rather thoughts to address the senselessness of the crime, especially if he had disordered thinking as Kaczynski had. Still needs to go to prison for life.

It was mentioned he speaks fluent Italian. So likely.
I think he worried about airport surveillance after the killing.

True, but sometimes killers are just killers. IMO
