And health insurance can be VERY spendy if you have to buy your own. Even what some companies offer can be really high. I ran into someone that was laid off from where I was working and they were paying over $2,000 for a YOUNG family of 3 (2 adults, one infant) at their new job. I was like... "Say what?!?!?". This was about 15 yrs ago, and costs have only gone up. My mind was officially blown at what someone might have to pay if they didn't work somewhere that offered great insurance.
The struggle is real.

I'm relieved.

I'm angry at the perp, but relieved it was indeed a lone wolf who went off the deep end. I hope nobody finds him admirable and I'm glad there wasn't a group working with him - that is very good to know.

Trust me. People are gonna find him admirable!

I think Bt was highly targeted. Is there not a lawsuit against UHc for using AI to turn down claims particular for older people and he has lost his grandparents and has computer engineering insight. BT approved this software and was head of record breaking profits going to an investor meeting…this was to make a huge statement. Murder is never acceptable but he is right protest doesn’t seem to change anything either. What a mess. Poor families.
YES! This. It ties in the conference perfectly.

I don't understand people's focus on his Goodreads list, aren't people used to reading ideas from authors who are completely opposite to theirs in order to (in a way) ''protect'' themselves and get a full picture of who are the crazies in society past and present? Maybe I think so because I am a Goodreads volunteer librarian but I read widely, things that I am passionate about and also things that are completely outside my realm/moral values/beliefs to get an insight on what others feel/think, and sort of understand how they react. His Goodreads list (if I did not know he has killed someone) does not tell me anything other than he has an inquisitive mind.
I'm creeped out I've read some of the same books as a killer I've been following on WS. That is not a comforting thought, though it's only my reaction to sharing the same selections and not on him directly or his reading.

I always get a laugh out of the soundbites and ancillary tidbits that come out of a criminal being apprehended.

"Ill will towards Corporate America" --- yeah, just like every other kid his age and so many others. Typical law enforcement soundbite.

Not to mention his Goodreads list, which to me is mostly normal looking and irrelevant (though I did not read his reviews he left). It reminds me of the obsession people had with Brian Laundrie reading Chuck Palahniuk. Almost entirely meaningless, even if there are similarities.

IMO, (except for some egregious genetic outliers) someone only decides to take a life when their mental health is so compromised they don't see any other way. They snapped beyond the point of no return, for whatever reason. But it had nothing to do with a reading list or some crusade against corporate America as a whole. It's not as if his disgust for the healthcare industry is uncommon. The difference is he, for some reason we will never know, decided to do something wrong about it.

If we here at WebSleuths were ever persons of interest it would be rather funny to see our postings dissected and all the generalizations that would be made just because we like to discuss cases with open minded people. LOL

His background, the social media presence, numerous pictures, former classmates, professors, relatives, work environments and no one recognized him to call it in in the last 6 days? Seems unbelievable.
Maybe they did, but were still going through the thousands of tips.
Then it took an elderly stranger and a Mcdonald's employee to out him? Today, six days later.

Exactly. Thank you. Totally ridiculous.

It is extraordinary how the brightest/sharpest minds are capable of terrible things. A few years ago here in UK a consultant who specialised in diabetes drove a truck full of explosives through the entrance to a Glasgow airport terminal. Fortunately the explosives never went off but it was shocking how someone so qualified, who undertook so much training, who is so intelligent could be capable of such evil and throw away the rest of his life, he is likely to never be released

Brilliant. I noticed he had a lot of AI warning type stuff on X, but did not make that connection. You're probably right on the money.

And....AI is terrifying. We're not ready, as one of his Tweets/reTweets said.

As always, just my opinion.

He comes from a very intelligent and successful family, and was trending that way himself. He’d probably have gone on to make a fortune in his field, and now he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison.

He seems to break the mold in a lot of ways (apparently not antisocial, no criminal record that we know about), seemingly well adjusted, very, very intelligent.

Seemingly a solid family background. No obvious signs of mental illness at this point.
Imagine if he used all that wealth and intelligence to work in a field that could actually have an impact on the things he was so against. Why not work to try to change what you don't like/agree with? Instead you ruin all these lives and nothing changes?

Maybe he thinks he will get better health care in prison?
