I'd say generally they did. As a former LEO, I knew the second they said they didn't want to release a name that they didn't have one. So...without someone recognizing him, or had he worn a disguise (and dumped all his contraband) he wouldn't have been caught for some time.

He isn't the disgruntled person whose single mother died because she couldn't afford her medicine that folklore made him out to be.

He is a spoiled rich kid.

Yes, but obviously this wasn't about him obtaining insurance. If he had any negative personal experience with medical insurers, or someone he loved did, it was simply a trigger. From reading everything about him, he was interested in MUCH larger issues than himself.

He may have been a rich kid. He may have been spoiled. But he was obviously, also, a thinker. He struggled to deal with what he saw as the many ills in society. Ultimately, he came up with an awful plan, that ended up a tragedy for Brian Thompson and his family; for himself and his own family; and for the many, many people there likely are who loved all of these people.

I absolutely believe that his Good Reads lists provides relevant insight into his psyche. It's incorrect to label his reading list as "irrelevant." IMO

Books, for many of us who love reading, aren't just mindless things. My book collection would tell you a lot about who I am. You'd know just by looking through my book shelf what I'm passionate about and the causes in which I support. It would give you an idea of some of the challenges I've faced in my life, as well as plenty of indicators of my ideologies, and clues on my chosen career path.

Readers of non-fiction care very deeply about the topics they read about. I'm an exclusive non-fiction reader, and each book I choose to read has meaning to me. The only fiction I buy would be considered part of the Canon of literature, which would actually tell you that I'm a bit of a literary snob or have an education in English literature. Both are true.

I agree to an extent. But worth pointing out is that we're not looking at his book shelf of physically curated objects, we're looking at a list on a website (Goodreads) that basically functions as a "check mark" that someone has read something...whether or not they agree with it, liked it, endorsed it, etc.

To me it's not much different than someone scraping our WebSleuths posts and pointing to someones post about a skull fracture, a gunshot wound, a person who disappeared without a trace, etc. There are millions of these on here. We talk about it because they are curious things and we are curious people. Yet if either one of us or anyone else here was arrested tomorrow for such a crime all the talk would be about our posting history and we would be hearing the same type of soundbites about how we had an internet posting history about criminals and their crimes and seemed to associate ourselves with this type of thought.

If a good-looking, rich, educated, intelligent young man is an incel, there might be a reason...like he's someone who resorts to cold-blooded murder to solve an injustice.

Ok. Maybe I’m in the minority here but I don’t think it’s the right guy. The smile picture with the mask pulled down he has this Jake Gyllenhal smile…. Luigi does not….. and I think he might be gay. I don’t think it’s him.

Just happened to have a 9mm ghost gun, suppressor, fake ID consistent with the ID used at the hostel by the shooter, same massive eyebrows and penchant for Ronald McDonald… oh, and a freakin manifesto.

Same guy that set up Kohberger and Allen set this guy up too, I guess.

UPDATE: Luigi Mangione attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He majored in computer science and minored in mathematics. Graduated on May 18, 2020 according to a University spokesperson.

The Altoona police department in Pennsylvania said that officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s at 9:14am this morning, after receiving reports of a male matching the description of the United Healthcare CEO murder suspect.

“Today at 9:14am, Altoona police officers were dispatched to a McDonald’s Restaurant for reports of a male matching the description of the United Healthcare CEO murder suspect” the police department said in a statement. “Officers made contact with the male who was subsequently arrested on unrelated charges.”

At this time, the Altoona police department is cooperating with local, state, and federal agencies, they said, adding that more information will be released later this evening.

The suspect was at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania and was recognized by an employee who then called local police.

New York authorities said that responding officers questioned the suspect, who was acting suspiciously and was carrying multiple fraudulent IDs as well as a US passport.

Upon further investigation, officers recovered a firearm on the man, as well as a suppressor, both consistent with the weapon used in the murder.

Suspect had a 'three-page manifesto', police say

Police say they found a hand-written three-page manifesto on Mangione when arresting him.

"We believe, at this point, our investigation is leaning toward he was acting alone," police say.

"As far as the manifesto, like I said, I don't have complete details of that. It's in the possession of the Altoona Police."

Finding Mangione appears to be a complete surprise. Police say they did not have his name prior to today.

Chief of detectives Kenny says that there is no information they can provide at the moment on what happened during the arrest, which was carried out by Altoona Police.

He adds that the investigation is still ongoing, part of which includes officers combing through Mangione's social media.

If you look at his X account, this guy was not a leftist anticapitalist. He's retweeting some of the favorite talking points of the right: feminists are feminizing men. He also encouraged his followers to read a thread about the fall of the Roman Empire that traced its decline to it becoming a welfare state. His X account comes across as very arrogant and verging on Men's Rights talking points. Far from a left wing anticapitalist.

I am certain this guy went off the deep end recently. Could be triggered by drugs, a traumatic event, or more likely, a simmering mental health issue. But I'm not a doc so I can't diagnose. I expect we'll hear that he had been becoming more unhinged for a period of months or years.

One out-there, totally implausible, but intriguing reason he might have been on a bus and still had the gun with him so long after the crime, was that he was trying to get to the real MR (the name on the fake ID, whose LinkedIn photo looks just like LM,) in New Jersey, to make a murder look like a suicide, plant the manifesto and leave the gun in MR’s hand, and leave the case looking “solved”.. (I know it’s a crazy thought just had to throw it out there once it popped in my head!)

Wild, but ...who knows!

The McDonalds employee recognized him. "See something, say something", and fully deserves the reward money. Shocking that with his social media, travel, school life, etc., that someone didn't call investigators before now (family, friends, acquaintances, school chums, etc).
