My family went through it when my twin was diagnosed with breast cancer when we were 31, and are going through it now with my mother in a home for end-stage dementia plus a broken hip which crippled her.

Nothing would make me murder the CEOs.

JMO

I wouldn’t either. Your interpretation is far from what I said.

I wonder if any of the threats that BT received were by LM? And if so, what does that mean for his case? More counts than murder? More time behind bars?

My Goodreads list would tell you I read the some of the same books as an assassin!

Yes, for readers, seeing what other people read is interesting and insightful. It's not ridiculous to be curious about booklists of others - perhaps especially because we know this perp is a thinker and unlikely to chose books willy-nilly.

I study history, and when I encounter book lists of people I'm studying, you bet I'm reading them too. You can get to know a person by reading what they read. It is not the *ONLY* insight into a person, but can be important.

Yay for readers.

I'm dozens of pages behind.

I can't see his GR list; it must have been made private.

Of the few reviews etc I can see, I too can see books I've read and some I'm likely to read.

Of course as a WS/true crime fan, my internet search history as well as my GR list might look horrific to someone who didn't realize my interest is all about understanding history in context.

I do wish I could have caught his entire list just so I could peruse.

Just in: Criminal complaint on gun charges for Luigi Mangione

An officer asked him to pull down his mask and asked if he had been to New York recently, at which point Mangione “became quiet and started to shake,”

Wow!

"Co-affiant asked the male if he had been to New York recently and the male became quiet and started to shake."

I think he looks off-kilter or unhinged, which very well could be the case. I think they will go for mental-health defense. Not sure it will work, but that's what I think the tactic will be.

He doesn’t to me. But they would still go for it I’m sure

Just thinking “out loud” & this suggestion won’t be popular. It seems from reading the posts, LM socially isolated the last year. Car job stopped in 2023. Although mental illness in males usually starts in mid-teens, on-set may be in the mid 20s. Not a medical professional, but I would be interested in a medical professional opinion. It could be a painful condition, social isolation and repetitive thoughts stirred up. Will be interesting to learn what he was doing the last year. IMO.

I wonder whether he will be put on suicide watch.
I never considered he'd kill himself when found, but now after seeing those pictures I don't think he's the cocky self assured hero figure person I expected.
I think they may also do a psychiatric evaluation.
They will do a psych eval if ordered. I can’t see why they wouldn’t but…

[snipped by me]

I hate reading images, so here is the criminal complaint (text copied directly from my computer's read of the image, so there could be errors):

TO WIT: On the aforementioned date and time, On December 9th, 2024, at 0914 hours, Affiant Ptlm. Frye and Co-Affiant Ptlm. Detwiler with the Altoona Police Department were dispatched to 407 E Plank Road, Altoona, for a suspicious male who resembled the male from a recent shooting in New York from December 4th. Officers were advised in the dispatch notes that the male was wearing a medical mask and a beanie.

Upon arrival, Officers were able to locate the male matching the aforementioned description sitting in the rear of the building at a table.

He was wearing a blue medical mask and was looking at a silver laptop computer that was placed on the table. The male also had a backpack on the floor near the table he was sitting at. Co-Affiant made contact with the male and informed that Officers were called to the McDonalds for a suspicious male matching his description. Co-Affiant asked the male to pull down his medical mask so he could see his face. The male complied and pulled down his mask; Affiant and Co-Affiant immediately recognized him as the suspect from New York City incident after seeing photos released of him from media sources. Co-Affiant asked the male for identification and provided Officers a New Jersey Driver's license, bearing the name Mark Rosario and a date of birth 07/21/1998. Affiant took the license and ran the information through the dispatch center. Co-Affiant asked the male if he had been to New York recently and the male became quiet and started to shake. Additional units from the Altoona Police Department arrived on scene to assist Affiant and Co-Affiant in identifying the

At this time, dispatch was unable to find any information on NCIC with the information provided by Officers. Lt. Hanelly arrived on scene and also ran the information the male provided to Officers but still found that no record was able to be found. The male was advised that he was under an official police investigation and if he lied out his identity, he would get arrested. The male then stated that his name was The Defendant: Luigi Mangione with a date of birth of 05/06/1998. The driver's license that the Defendant provided to Officers was found to be a fake identification card. Ptlm. Fox asked the Defendant why he lied out his name and the Defendant replied "I clearly shouldn't have." Lt. Hanelly then instructed Officers to place the Defendant into custody for 4101(a)(3), Forgery and 4914(a) False identification to law enforcement.

The Defendant was the placed into custody. The Defendant was handcuffed and was searched on scene. The Defendant was then transported back to Altoona Police Department's station where his property was inventoried pursuant to the Altoona Police Department's policy. During a search of the Defendant's backpack, Officers located a black 3D-printed pistol and a black silencer. The pistol had a metal slide and a plastic handle with a metal threaded barrel. The pistol had one loaded Glock magazine with six nine-millimeter full metal jacket rounds. There was also one loose nine-millimeter hollow point round. The silencer was also 3D printed.

The Defendant is being charged with 4103(a)(3) Forgery, 4106(a)(2) Firearms not to be carried without a license, 4104(a) Tampering with records or identification, 907(a) instruments of a crime, and 4914(a) False identification to law enforcement.

The Defendant will need to be fingerprinted and photographed.

The police officers who arrested Luigi Mangione in Altoona, Pennsylvania “immediately recognized him as the suspect” sought in connection with a health insurance executive’s fatal shooting in New York, according to a criminal complaint filed in court Monday.

Mangione is charged with five counts, including carrying a firearm without a license and possessing instruments of a crime. In the criminal complaint filed in Altoona, the officers said that they were dispatched Monday morning to 407 E. Plank Road in Altoona — the address of a McDonald’s there — in response to a call about a man resembling the person wanted in connection with the shooting in Manhattan the week before.
When they arrived, the officers wrote, they found this person sitting in a table towards the back of the building, wearing a blue medical mask and looking at a laptop on the table in front of him. One of the officers asked the person to pull his mask down, and when he did, they both recognized him from the photographs circulating of the suspect.
After they asked him if he was in New York recently, they wrote, he “became quiet and started to shake.”

I tend to agree with this. Something clearly happened within the past year, as there was apparently a complete change in behavior (isolated and off the grid).

He knew what he was doing, and knew what he was doing was wrong, so he's completely responsible for his actions, but something going on mentally may go a long way to explaining why this came to be.

I'm interested in the timing of the back injury, and if things started to change after that.

Luigi Mangione charged with 'possessing instruments of crime'

We've just received a copy of the criminal complaint filed against Luigi Mangione in Pennsylvania. Here is what it tells us:

  • The 26-year-old was charged with one count of forgery, one count of carrying a firearm without a license, one count of tampering with records or identification, one count of possessing instruments of a crime, and one count of providing false identification to the authorities - a total of five counts
  • The complaint states that Mangione was spotted at the McDonald's wearing a medical mask and a beanie. He was located sitting at a table, looking at a silver laptop screen. He also had a backpack next to him
  • Police say they asked him to pull down his mask, after which he did, and he was then "immediately recognised" as the person of interest in the shooting of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare
  • He then allegedly presented to officers a New Jersey driver's license, according to the complaint, under the name Mark Rosario. Police ran a search on the ID but it returned no results, and it was found to be fake, the complaint adds
  • Mangione was then handcuffed on scene for providing false identification to police. Officers then searched his backpack, where they allegedly located "a black 3D-printed pistol and a black silencer," the latter of which they say was also 3D printed

Agreed. I find insurance companies and the system that enables them to essentially run the medical system for profit, to be despicable. Yet we change that through laws. Not by assassinating people like some corrupt Russian or third world hell hole.
Agree. Not to mention, hospitals are known to overcharge their services and meds. The whole system needs to be fixed by the government.

Has anyone found a link or report to confirm he has an injury? I felt he moved around darn well IMO
No confirmation, but the guardian claimed a source had said he had a spinal injury in the last cpl years
