A Faraday bag. I’ve considered purchasing one to put all of our car keys in after a rash of thefts in my neighborhood. A friend bought one by accident (she thought it was just a cute small purse), and could not understand why she was not receiving phone calls and texts.
Yep, usually a little bag that’s lined with a metallic fabric or thin metal with a top that folds over a couple of times and is fastened with Velcro. As described, it blocks cell signals so would keep his devices from being tracked regardless of power status.

We use them all the time at work; I personally own one of these:

For those curious about the actual products. Most look pretty much like that.

Here is what police say they found in Mangione’s backpack:

After Mangione provided his real name and birth date, he was taken into custody on charges of forgery and false identification to law enforcement, court documents say.

In his backpack, police found a black, 3D-printed pistol and a 3D-printed black silencer, the papers say.

The pistol had a metal slide and plastic handle with a metal threaded barrel. It had one loaded Glock magazine with six 9 mm full metal jacket rounds and one loose 9 mm hollow-point round.

8K cash isnt illegal
No but who normally carries that amount of cash around, and then claims he didn't know where it came from when questioned.

The manifesto found on Luigi Mangione mentions UnitedHealthcare by name, noting the size of the company and how much money it makes, according to a senior law enforcement official who saw the document. The manifesto also broadly condemns health-care companies for placing profits over care, the official said.

I hope we get to read all of it and it’s not blocked by UnitedHealth.

I can’t believe that in the 10 days he was in NYC, he didn’t organize a disguise for himself, not even a glue on beard.
Same. Methodically planned the hit and the escape and didn’t think of using a post-op disguise. A simple mustache, beard or hair dye and he’s never noticed.

Whoaaaa I have to work all day and came back and apparently missed a lot!
Yeah, you missed a lot. Day was not like a soap opera where you could watch one full week and not miss a thing.
Today, the shooter was captured. He’s being considered a "strong suspect.” McD employee spotted him and called in a tip.
A preliminary arraignment (for gun charges/not for the Manhattan murder) already happened around 6:00 pm ET tonight.

Anyone -Please correct me if any of this is wrong. TIA

That’s all I can think of right now. Check out this thread or someone else can catch you up.

Both of his parents are deceased. The article from the DailyMail said that his mother passed away in 2013 (after the father had passed away). So, I wonder if he received survivor benefits and what that entails. Is this a lifetime thing or are you cut off at a certain age? Maybe, he had to stay in school to keep receiving the benefits?? I don't know.

JMO.
He was found with $8,000 in US cash and $2,000 in foreign currency and a faraday bag (signal blocking bag)

Reporter that was in court on CNN

Would be Very Interested in which type of foreign currency.

Canadian border was not too many bus rides away.

Inside PA holding cell
Wow. He looks SO slim compared to his old 2019 pictures. Looks like he may have lost A LOT of weight. Perhaps from the injury or illness or something else? Interesting!

I don't understand why he handed over the same fake ID that was used in NY, so stupid.

I wonder who he lived with. Did he still live at home with his family? I seem to recall reading somewhere that they were estranged. I wonder if he had roommates, or if he lived alone. Did he even have a job?

Imagine graduating from an Ivy league school and not being able to find work, or hold a job. I remember back when I graduated, it was considered "embarrassing" if you didn't get hired shortly after graduation, or during.

I guess more will come out in the next week or so, once people who know him start giving interviews to the press. JMO

The surgeon who operated on him and the office practice were possible next targets, I'd bet.

Chronic pain is unbearable. I think very few people understand this. I have no idea if it pertains to this guy at all; however, what you say is so true.

Chronic pain is incredibly depressing and changes one's personality.

it most certainly does.....
You have to experience it, to KNOW it.....

Yes can be used in context of other evidence.
But offhand worrisome he had additional plans

You can still get the food and go outside to eat though. Sitting down, opening his laptop, spending longer than he needed, how did that make any sense?
I’m not sure of his thought process. He hadn’t been caught so far. May have thought it looked more suspicious to eat outside.

United healthcare owns physician groups that it pays out. They also own other services along the way. It's a complete conflict of interest, and this never puts the patient first. It's all about profit, not healthcare. Something happened for this killer to focus on UHC specifically, IMO
UnitedHealth pays its own physician groups considerably more than others, driving up consumer costs and its profits
This continues to be a problem and will just get worse. CVS/Aetna comes to mind, just as an example.

CNN interview with co worker and roommate of LM named RJM.

Beyond shocked. Roomates (Honolulu), friends. This was around 2022. LM was working a remote job at the time. Thought he would be a lifelong friend.

He was very thoughtful, communicated well, friendly, active relationships with everyone. Started a book club.

When he first moved in he said he had a back injury. Later went surfing and found himself in bed for a week.
It weighed on him that he had a surgery coming up.

Communication kind of tapered off. Texted earlier this year and LM shared the spine photo with him after his surgery.

"I can make zero scene of it. There's never justification for violence..."
