Reporters get all sorts of info the public does not. Most of it they don't publish because of either risk of prosecution, violation of ethics rules, or risk of being blackballed by their inside sources and losing the ability to get info in the future. Foreign reporters get the same info...
And a complete sham of a report. Probably the poster example for politically motivated police secrecy and whitewashing.
Was really one of biggest reasons I lost a lot of confidence in LE in this country to be transparent and honest.

Yes I get the "trial" issue. As you said, there is not one here and info may come out eventually. No trial in the Danforth incident either, and it's been whitewashed and stonewalled. Hope the same is not the case here.
I really hope the RCMP decide to share much of the story in the coming days and weeks, as best and openly they can, with perhaps the exception of anything that may be of privacy concern to the victim's families.

My bet is that the trip into the woods was meant to either forage for food, or quickly hide from an overhead plane/drone. Either way, some gear was left with the intent of returning, but the return trip was not to be for whatever reason.
