I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the Illinois "accent." I live in Central IL but of course I'm familiar with other areas of IL. Yes, as you go down south there is a bit more of a southern "twang" perhaps, but how is that different from IN? I feel that both states have extremely similar sounding accents (with the exception of Chicago, which has it's own unique accent) and both states vary in their accents based on location (for example both southern IN and southern IL have similar accents whereas the central areas of both states have less southern sounding accents). I truly feel like parts of IL and parts of IN have no accent. I consider myself to be in that bunch. No twang, no specific emphasis on certain parts of words, etc. All of that being said, all we hear is three words. Can we really base what state someone is from on that alone? I have a tough time thinking so.
