I just cannot understand how a person could look into the beautiful eyes of these young people and hurt them, much less take one of their lives. I guess I am thankful my mind cannot comprehend what this monster is like or what he is made of. But look at them, just starting life. Sweet little faces. I feel so bad for their families and friends.

I know, you put it so well describes how so many of us feel. IMO It’s incomprehensible to anyone that has the ability to feel empathy and compassion like us here on WS.
I don’t think a person capable of butchering 4 people in their sleep has an ounce of empathy or compassion for anyone. IMO their minds are so sick and twisted, their acts so evil, no words or legit diagnosis can describe the depths of depravity it takes to do something so brutal and heinous. Four, 4! young college students with their whole lives ahead of them slaughtered in ambush attack in their sleep (the killer imo BK assumed they were all asleep before going in). As you say LNF and I agree, who could do this to them their sweet faces is unconscionable, and my heart too breaks for them and all their families and loved ones, and the community. The collateral damage done here spreads wide and far, it’s so sad.

Just as an aside, I personally don’t consider anti-social PD and/or psychopathy to be mental disorders/illnesses that should be in the DSM-V. IMO need to be taken out of the DSM and put into a category/classification of their own/in some other book so to speak because imo these are the most dangerous that walk amongst us in society. I’d be interested in @BeginnerSleuther expertise and opinion on this because I feel like something more needs to be done to identify/recognize the warning flags but on the other hand, I do understand that many of these offenders usually don’t seek out/
not in treatment and if they are, can be so manipulative it’s hard even for MH practitioners to determine which antisocial psychopathic individuals are at risk/capable of escalating to homicidal maniacs-jmo description.

At any rate, I know it’s not so cut and dried and so many other factors could be involved. I’m not a medical professional or expert it’s just I have no other way to describe people capable of such horror other than sheer Evil which is not a legit MH diagnosis. IMO APD/psychopathy to such a degree needs to be an island of its own/in another book so to speak, if that makes sense.

Waiting for the day he’s behind bars for good, and in the rear-view mirror for all of us.

Bringing this topic over from the last thread

Trial is expected to last three months. In two phases -- trial and penalty. Original proposed schedule -- starting in JUNE, running/ruining the ENTIRE SUMMER.

Concession, now it'll run in/ ruin the fall. (I vaguely recall that maybe AT DID WANT a split presentation, the first in May, the second in the fall.) Judge split the difference. Back to back phases, pushed back to fall.

It is the creepiest of his photos. I scroll quickly when it comes up here.

The jail seems to be keeping a lid on how their prisoner is doing. You usually hear snippets-quiet, doesn’t like the food, etc. No info at all-a good thing that shows everyone understands their job.

I never thought about the bruise/mark on the inside of his hand coming from digging a hole with a shovel (to presumably bury the knife and coveralls). Thank you for that idea.

The other thought I had about the selfie was that he didn't have any friends, that I think he was "documenting" the process for himself. He is a loner. He wanted a photo of himself after he had killed them. That photo allows him to more vividly RE-LIVE and FANTASIZE about the murders he did. Sort of admiring himself as now a murderer and soon to be "famous" serial killer. I'll bet he viewed that 1 photo on his phone many times every single day after the murders. He may have even had a notebook with his notes (or digital version) but I think we would have heard about that already. I'll bet he was even more proud of himself that he planned to kill one woman, but ended up killing 4 people. He was not just a murderer.. but a man who killed 4 people. He must think he was destined for greatness.

I also suspect this would have not been the last time he did it... just maybe the first. I honestly think he was fascinated with serial killers and wanted to be known as the Knife Sheath Serial Killer. < Yeh, I know that is a stretch but I suspect he (ignorantly) left the sheath there on purpose as his calling card. To be done again and again.

People like this are hard for most of us to understand. We can't imagine someone not feeling guilt or not eventually "chickening out" when planning such an attack on a totally innocent person.
