I'm adjusting my theory. Up to today, I was convinced he had one victim in his sights and the rest was pure bedlam.

I think he found a house he could watch, where young women lived, one per room.

He may have been quite methodical, had he not been caught off guard by multiples.

Ted Bundy 2.0. The only thing missing -- BK isn't representing himself. Yet.

Anyone who’s had to sit with their 4 year old in ‘timeout’ for more than 5 minutes knows that it feels like 2 lifetimes.

In 10+ minutes with that large of a weapon, both DM and BF are lucky to be alive.
Violent crimes happen very fast because they are ambushes. Under a minute, less than two if the victim manages a struggle.

May 7, 2025 – Friday’s all-new Dateline NBC at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT will reveal exclusive new details about the investigation into the murders of four University of Idaho students: Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. The special features never-before-reported evidence, including video, photographic and digital materials that investigators say track accused killer Bryan Kohberger’s movements.

A preview of the special, entitled The Terrible Night on King Road, will air Thursday, May 8, on TODAY.

During the two-hour broadcast, former students also open up to correspondent Keith Morrison for the first time about their interactions with Kohberger. Former graduate student Holly tells Dateline that after meeting Kohberger at a pool party and telling him about a hiking group she was a part of, they exchanged phone numbers. The next day, she received a textfrom him about hiking with “peculiar” wording, explaining: “It was almost overly formal.”

The special includes interviews with friends of the victims, including the mother of Mogen’s best friend, as well as in-depth analysis from criminology and genetics experts. Dateline has covered the case since the beginning, previously airing two specials on the investigation. Friday’s broadcast comes just weeks before Kohberger’s trial is set to begin. He has pleaded not guilty.

Thanks for the heads up Mass.

I agree.

But I'm certain AT curated her expert very carefully. BK didn't meet the criteria for much of anything as an adult because he didn't input enough answers and she didn't have enough anecdotal data (because the expert didn't ask for any) to fill in the answers herself. AT does not want BK diagnosed in full. One, it might jeopardize the ASD angle she's trying to sail (because it better accounts for his peculiar personality) and two, it'll make him less sympathetic and more unlikable if he's got the whole dreaded Cluster F, it'll be much easier for the jury to align the crime with him. That fine line the judge described. Where mitigating looks more like aggravating.

IMO the only reason BK doesn’t have a childhood history of conduct disorder is because his parents were invested in protecting him from the consequences of his nature, with the best of intentions.

100% he did this because he wanted to. Decided to, planned to, planned for, wanted to and did.

Agreed, that's why I pulled that particular footnote out. ;)

Stoked for Dateline.

The multiple weapons argument is going to be an easy one to make, as you're likely to have stab wounds, slash wounds, and blunt force injuries. The thing is, every one of those injuries can be inflicted with a Ka-Bar knife. As far as the blunt force injuries go, we learned those strikes when I was in Marine boot camp. The butt end of the knife is designed for that.

As for the cleaning, I can't really come up with much that the defense "expert" can argue. Perhaps he'll claim that there is less blood than there should be or something (internal bleeding would explain this).

Anyone have any thoughts?
IDK, I'll guess it may have been a quick pit stop by BK cleaning off the bloody knife (All victims DNA) and maybe wrapping it in a towel to carry it out?

DM said she saw him carrying something like a vacuum. The KBAR wrapped that way could appear possible from her distance.

That is exactly what I think.

He intended to spend time with MM and things went to hell right away.
My bum is getting chapped switching sides of the fence I've been riding hah. The more details that come out, the more my theory(ies) changes.

A phone "linked to his parents" (who BK called just before taking the selfie)
I have been following this case on and off, more off than on, so I'm no expert by any means. And I certainly don't know how BK ticks. Still I find it strange that he phoned his parents afterward?? Parents or siblings often know you quite well and can tell by your voice that something's up, even if you're not actually telling them anything in words. Tho I suppose BK thought he could hoodwink them, "clever" as he was.

That he probably had nobody he could call except his parents (MOO) is not a really good look. Of course some adults are lonely and friendless but combined with other known and/or suspected personality traits and social habits of BK - not a good look.

I just keep thinking about him, writing a thesis on the Idaho murders.

mind blown, okay? we are going to be discussing this for a long time.

I never bought any of what AT had been trying to sell, but it makes me angry to learn that, alongside his interest in Bundy, BK has dozens of photos of college girls. Girls he can't possibly know. If that's not stalkerish and skeevy, I don't know what is.

He is reprehensible. And without defense.

JMO
I also think this is where the 'ID's in a glove found in a box' from the PA SW comes into play. Little Bry has been a bad boy IMO.

I thought exactly the same thing. I do not know if it was normal for BK to phone his parents on Sunday mornings, but I find it hard to believe that whoever he talked to would not have been able to detect something out of the norm, excitement, agitation, worry...something anyway, in his voice. How does that convo even go...

Hi son, what has you up and around so early this morning?

Oh, nothing much, just got back from driving by a house where I butchered some people a few hours ago. Can't believe it wasn't crawling with cops, but they are so useless around here. Maybe I should apply for a job with them.

I wonder if it was his mom or his dad, or both, that he talked to, and wonder if he actually sent that sick selfie to them. JMO

@seasideForest

It has been mentioned that a sister was suspicious of him. I think you are on track. IMO
Also IMO, his parents, mainly his mother seems to be overprotective of him probably due to him not being your run of the mill normal dude.

Yes, that's true, that was mentioned about the sister. I always presumed her suspicions were based on aspects of his behaviour going back a number of years but it could just be based on this one morning's calls. MOO

I would guess BK was on adrenaline dump overload and so 'high' he HAD to talk to somebody. They would be the perfect ones because they are already aware of his strangeness and over inflated ego, so it wouldn't have tipped them off IMO.

What I do wonder is if at the GJ in PA that the parents were required to attend, were they asked about that particular call the morning/day from BK after the murders???

Interesting what their answers would have been. Did BK already tell them of the awful tragedy that happened in Moscow before it was official? We'll know at trial as PA GJ shared that testimony with ID LE.

Well, unless he sent that selfie to his parents, I think BK was grading his snowjob.

If he did send it to them, double snowjob.

Maybe Eddie Haskel called home every Sunday. Golden boy.

But whoa, if he told them about the crime one town over.... hours before the story broke...

It makes his selfie even more disturbing.

Which I didn't think possible.

I do wonder when BK first talked to anyone about what happened in Moscow. Could he contain his duper's delight?

His parents must have tried so hard to be proud of him. PhD, making imaginary friends...

What destruction.

A resident from BK's Apartment building who wanted to remain anonymous is said to have stated:

<snipped & BBM>

He did not wish to be identified, but told how Kohberger asked him about the murders days after they happened in November.

'He brought it up in conversation, asked if I'd heard about the murders. Which I had.

'He said, "It seems like they have no leads... like it was a crime of passion."

Interesting exchange to me.

Bryan Kohberger told neighbor Idaho murders were 'crime of passion'

Its been years since I read about Ted Bundy so I may be wrong, but didn't he call his girlfriend after every murder/attack on his victims? Except creepy ah Bryan didn't have a girlfriend, only mom.
How absolutely pathetic.

You must have watched The Stranger Beside Me back in the 80's.

It ruined "Jethro's" career for 30 years he played Ted Bundy so well.
Bbm

RBBM

No, but I read Ann Rule's book by the same name.

For the curious, here is a link.

I don't remember anything about Bundy making calls..but since it looks like BK has some kind of identity disturbance and is trying to mimic him, he could be going thru some kind of checklist in his head and making a call..very interesting. I had some communications with Ann Rule and her experience with Ted was life altering, he really was the stranger beside her and she cared about Ted...it's just so twisted. mOO
