I have been following this case on and off, more off than on, so I'm no expert by any means. And I certainly don't know how BK ticks. Still I find it strange that he phoned his parents afterward?? Parents or siblings often know you quite well and can tell by your voice that something's up, even if you're not actually telling them anything in words. Tho I suppose BK thought he could hoodwink them, "clever" as he was.

That he probably had nobody he could call except his parents (MOO) is not a really good look. Of course some adults are lonely and friendless but combined with other known and/or suspected personality traits and social habits of BK - not a good look.

MOO JMO
MOO It might be a weekly Sunday call they had.

Violent crimes happen very fast because they are ambushes. Under a minute, less than two if the victim manages a struggle.
Yes, there's nothing surprising at all about the rapidity of these murders, given the weopen and the context. Jmo. I don't believe the defense expert's 'there had to be more than one' thesis will land with the jury after the state is done with their crime scene and forensic evidence. It's about all the defense has though, but again the DNA evidence will also put paid to that quick smart.

AT has a losing hand here, and imo it's the right move for the sake of her client to put energy into trying to save him from the DP and convince the jury to sentence to LWOP. Jmo.

the thing about Bundy was that he fit in..he was tan, attractive, wore clothes well. played tennis and had personal charm and some charisma. none of these attributes can be applied to BK. it's like Lurch wanting to play James Bond. mOO

And what a sad waste of her time and the State's dime because I don't think he gives a damn.

Thankless task.

Bad hand. No hand.

But her duty. And she's doing it for BK, whether or not he cares, and in a sense, for all of us. Upholding the right to a vigorous defense.

Ah, AT. And her impassioned declaration of BK's innocence. Exactly as we suspected. Innocent until proven guilty. Constitutionally Innocent. Important place, that Constitution. It's the only place where he's still innocent.

It'll be a short stay.

i thought that bundy's charm and charisma was a myth, and that many women who knew him felt he was creepy? maybe I'm misremembering.

My bum is getting chapped switching sides of the fence I've been riding hah. The more details that come out, the more my theory(ies) changes.

yes, some did find him creepy, but if you were in a bar or a at a party or on the beach..he wouldn't stand out. you could have a conversation with him and he wasn't blatantly offensive or rude. He was able to wear a mask...he did it for a long time and was getting into politics.

I don't remember anything about Bundy making calls..but since it looks like BK has some kind of identity disturbance and is trying to mimic him, he could be going thru some kind of checklist in his head and making a call..very interesting. I had some communications with Ann Rule and her experience with Ted was life altering, he really was the stranger beside her and she cared about Ted...it's just so twisted. mOO
Lucky you to have communicated with Ann Rule! She is and will always be my favorite TC writer.
Yes, I also read that her relationship with TD affected her very badly. Iirc, Ann said that when TB's x-ray of his teeth was compared with a victims bite wound at his trial in Florida , she went to the ladies room and vomited, poor thing.
That remark about calling his girlfriend I believe I read when she wrote her book, but again, it's been years since I read that.

yes, yes, I remember that now , I think you are right. I haven't reread it in ages..she wrote for True Detective and I was lucky to get to email with her on a few things. I ended up reading all of her books and her book The End of A Dream is a masterpiece of true crime, and is in my top 3. If you have not read it you should check it out. :)

I always love your posts! Curious about why you believe BK doesn't care what happens to him? ( Not disagreeing at all, I just always love reading your insight. )

Thank you, I did read The End of the Dream. No one could pull me into a story like Ann could.

His care-er is broken.

Most of us care about our freedom because it's what keeps us connected to those we love. We want relationships, we want connection.

He is already with the person he cares the most about. (Himself.)

I'm trying to track down the thesis, which should've been published and accessible on some sort of digital repository of theses/dissertations, and 100% should contain a page that states that DeSales' IRB has reviewed/approved the research plan.

In the meantime, I found it interesting (and maybe relevant to his seemingly-contemptuous attitude towards peer-aged women) that BK appears to be the only male student who completed a MCJ at DeSales in 2022--I could be wrong, but according to the commencement program, all of the other folks in his cohort have names which are most commonly used by women. I was going to post a screenshot but for purposes of not identifying the full names of the other folks who graduated with BK, I will just list the first names of the 2022 MCJ recipients here:

Karlyna
Jenna
[BK]
Jessica
Brina
Cailee
Alyssa
Marina

The link is to the commencement program. https://heavy.com/wpcontent/uploads/2022/12/desalescommencementclassof2022.pdf
Did he do a thesis, or just coursework/project master's? Verrrry interesting that the rest of the cohort were women...

If by some horrid stroke of jailbird flu, BK returned to freedom, can you even imagine...?

No woman would be safe, but besides that, he blew up his career before he murdered anyone...

Can you imagine this BK finding housing, securing employment, fitting in.... and without killing anybody else?

40 years ago, BK would not have been caught. No cellphones, no cctv, no DNA. He would have done this again. Same MO, different MO. Twinning Bundy or maybe just a pathetic copycat of every SK he could read about in his Encyclopedia Britannica.

I'm sure he's disappointed he can't do it again but probably sated, reliving the four he did do. Now he doesn't have to work, doesn't have to deal with employers, professors, students, gets his vegan meals apportioned, he can coast. Lazy does it. He doesn't even have to change shower curtains. I suspect that the isolation and routine of jail suit him well.

Nice and predictable. Fewer annoyances all around, though he will surely find them.

Unless like Delphi she is going to explore atomizing common movement, the "one man with his dexterity and balance lifts his foot and places it in front of himself, then with effort lifts his back foot..."

Yes. He committed a murders that could have remained unsolved even 15 years ago.
The prevalence of home security cameras picking up street activity, the ability of police labs to process unbelievably small samples of bio material, familial DNA research, permanent records of purchases, cell tower CAST reporting and GPS phone location

Wrong. The lawyers make the arrangement. They tell the family of the victim. Happens all of the time.

One example, most recently was the "Cess Pool Queen" who murdered Barbara Gustern, she got eight and a half years. The family was devastated.

I also recall the refusal of the DA to seek the death penalty, to the sorrow and ire of the victim's family, for the murder of a Navy officer by 3 thrill-killers driving around shooting people, from Anacortes, WA.

According to the program's website, "All MCJ students complete a master project seminar course that can be satisfied through a master’s thesis, externship in a relevant agency, or an in-depth policy paper." We know BK claimed to be doing research for a thesis (the survey he purportedly shared on social media), whereas we have not (as far as I know) heard anything about him doing an externship in grad school or seen any type of "policy paper" published under his name, so I think the thesis is most likely the option he chose. I just don't understand why I can't find it on any online repository!
